The Sohotel garners appreciation for its prime location amidst vibrant neighborhoods and its cozy atmosphere, with many guests describing the ambiance as fun and comfortable. However, the hotel's value is subject to debate, as some travelers find the room sizes small and the additional fees steep, considering the lack of in-room amenities like coffee makers.
While rooms are generally well-kept, there are mixed reviews regarding their size and occasional housekeeping oversights. Service is highlighted as friendly, yet the responsiveness can be inconsistent.

Detailed Reviews
Friendly welcome at check-in and there was someone who carried the luggage to the room. The location is perfect in a very lively, cool neighborhood with many shops and restaurants and a 2-minute walk from the metro. The size of the room (for 5 people) was ok. In the morning there is coffee and tea ready opposite the checkin, not the tastiest coffee but it is the service that counts. I don't know if I would book it again, price/quality ratio was ok, but the inconveniences such as not being clean and noise pollution are disturbing. The beds were ok.
As a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children aged 14, 10 and 6), we were allocated room 210. This room is on the first floor behind the reception as there is a Mexican restaurant on the ground floor. The view from room 210 is a messy courtyard with a gigantic air purification plant that runs 24/7 and therefore makes continuous noise. The bathroom had not been cleaned properly as there was still hair in the bath/shower from previous visitors and the TV did not work properly because it froze every time. Went to reception with these complaints and we were assigned the room directly opposite, room 208. This had a great view of the street side, but also the noise from the street and from the noisy Mexican restaurant below, which later in the evening turned into bar/café with loud music until 3am. What was also very annoying, the radiator in room 208 starts whistling 4/5 times a night because it needs to get rid of its air, this is so loud that it wakes you up, especially because it is next to your bed! I reported this to reception but they said there was nothing they could do about it and it was normal. We had no problems with this in room 210. The power of the shower jet is mediocre and the lack of heating in the bathroom is also a downside.

I appreciated the welcoming staff. They were helpful. I asked for an upgrade to have a bathtub in my room but the bath stopper was broken so having the upgrade wasn’t worth it. The rooms overalls are nice. Good beds. Quiet.
Great location for visiting nyc!

Great location but the hotel rooms are very small and dividing walls are paper thin so that you hear everything in the nearby rooms. There are no facilities in the hotel, no breakfast, no gym, nothing. No elevator either. There was a tea and coffee stand but it runs out in the morning and no one refills it. The decoration is great though.

I state that this is my fourth visit to New York. Good hotel located between 100 and 250 meters from two subway stations of which the nearest (J) would be the one that arrives at Jamaica station and from there the connection with Air Train to the various terminals of JFK. Quiet area with Eataly 200 meters 😉. Traveling with the family (5) we opted for a room (35 square meters) with two double beds (cm 160x200) and a single (cm 100x200) so very spacious, the only drawback, has no elevator but are only three floors and the style is very fashionable. Very kind and extremely helpful staff, we had a good time and then in New York the room is just for showering and sleeping (super mattresses), not the usual hotel in Times Square, highly recommended 👍🏼

The experience from booking on their site, to check in, and check out was simple and lovely. The AC units were powerful, but not noisy, the mattress was comfortable, our room had no disturbances that affected our sleep quality, and the shower had good water pressure and temperature control. It was a quick, but lovely stay for both my friend and myself.

Location and staff could not be better. The location is very close to several MTA stations and right between so many smaller neighborhoods that made this trip one of the best I’ve ever taken to New York. It’s close to Lower East side with tons of historic culture, Little Italy, SoHo, Chinatown…so many food options nearby it’s unbelievable.

I stayed at the Sohotel during NYC Marathon Weekend to cheer on my son. It was close to everything, but not congested on Marathon Day. Several subway stations are very close, and you can walk so many places, include Little Italy (about 2 blocks away) and Washington Square Park. The room was cute with exposed brick, the beds were comfortable and the shower had great water pressure. There was a nice sitting area on the first floor. Very convenient public transit access from JFK.

Terrible Service
The service was awful from start to finish. There’s no elevator, and there’s no communication with the front desk. I tried to request an iron through the messaging system as indicated on the room key, but no one ever responded.
They didn’t provide water in the room, and there was no way to ask for it. You have to walk down countless stairs just to make a simple request. Why even provide a contact number if they don’t answer calls or messages? It’s impossible to request anything or get help.
They forgot to mention that we had to request cleaning, which I found unacceptable. This is something that no hotel should overlook—cleaning is a standard service that should be done automatically.
Overall, the service was terrible, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

We stayed here for two nights with our 3 teenage boys during their spring break. The room was large of enough for the five of us, 2 queens and a twin. We didn’t spend much time in the room so it worked out fine. Room was clean and nicely decorated. I loved the exposed brick wall and the beds were decent. A bit pricey but it was to be expected for NY. Parking was about 3 blocks away and was in a lot where they park your car for you. Be sure to let them know you’re staying at Sohotel to get a discounted price. The location was perfect we’re in the middle of Little Italy and China Town with easy access to the subway (the boys loved that). The only reason I gave this a 4 was because the tiles in the bathroom had some leftover hair from previous stay but other than that the bathroom was clean and updated. Easy check in/out. Staff was nice and accommodating. Great stay overall for first time visit to NY.

No. There is no rooftop. There are several cocktail bars and restauturant in the block but they are all at street level. There's a bar on a rooftop a few blacks away, but we haven’t been there.
As noted by another traveler, there is complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby near reception. Self-serve. There are literally thousands of places to eat in Manhattan, formal and informal: street vendors, markets, coffee shops, restaurants. And of innumerable ethnicities.
Never had breakfast at the hotel, however, there was this farmhouse feel of the breakfast place call The Butcher's Daughter just one block over. Had I tried it earlier I would have gone every day and sampled the whole menu!
