Nestled in a prime NYC spot, the Mandarin Oriental, New York, delights guests with its spotless cleanliness and top-notch amenities, such as luxurious rooms and breathtaking Central Park views. While the spacious rooms boast remarkable vistas, some guests suggest the decor is a bit dated. The service at the hotel garners high praise for its professionalism and personalized touch. Despite the enchanting atmosphere, a few visitors believe the aesthetic could use a refresh. However, opinions on value are mixed, with some questioning the worth of the steep prices.

MO in New York is located across from the Central Park and next to a shopping mall. Within minutes of walking distance there are a lot of restaurant selections. Excellent location.
Checked in at around 9:30 preparing for luggage storage because I booked the 11:00 reservation at MET museum. Check-in was very fast and the staff was very efficient. She also invited me to join the breakfast at the Lounge.
The Maître D' didn't see that we were there first and seated the only empty window seats to the couple behind us, but promised that when there was window seats open, would change our seat. However, he forgot to do that. We had to ask a waiter to change to the window seat when that couple left. The food in the Lounge is average compared to other MOs; maybe it is because the food service is limited after reopening. Meanwhile, our room was ready within half an hour and all the luggages were sent to the room already. Excellent service!
The upgraded room is clean but lacks a coffee machine. The refrigerator is full of drinks on automatic mode: if the door is not close within 30 seconds, guest will be charged. There is no room for drinks that brought by the guests.
Compared to other MOs in China, this MO does not have an executive lounge, therefore it does not have an option to book the executive rooms with lounge access. Because of the pandemic, restaurants are not fully opened. It is already very good because the Spa, the gym and pool are open, not many New York hotels are able to do that.
Like other MOs, daily house keeping includes cleaning in the morning and turndown service in the evening. It is the familiar "Jasmin" music played on the TV that always reminded me that I am in my very favorite hotel.
House keepers are also attend to details like other MOs. Cables of chargers would be tied together and well organized; bath salt would always be replaced when it was used. When meeting a house keeper in the hallway, she could always call me by my last name...this is how MO is unique and why I love MO! It reminds me that when I stayed in MO Shanghai, even Mr. Clements Hoerth, the general manager, would recognize me and called my name. It is simply amazing.

We stayed at the Hotel and it was excellent. We stayed in the "least" expensive room, with views to the river, and even though the hotel offers more "luxurious" rooms and rooms with views to central park, this room was excellent. The views from the 47th floor were amazing.
We arranged for the hotel to pick us up at JFK and the process went smoothly.
Upon arrival our room was ready (we arrived around 11PM)
Room service was perfect every time we used it
The Breakfast is a la carte, no buffet (which for me its a better option)
The views from the restaurant and the bar is impressive, with unobstructed views of Central Park
The service in the hotel is top notch. I agree that the Mandarins in Prague, Paris and Munich are more "luxurious" but this hotel is an excellent choice. The location is perfect and the shopping mall in the first 3 floors provide a lot of options if you don't want to venture off or want an option for lunch that is easy.

Walking into the lobby of MO you're greeted with an elegant view, and smiling faces. We were warmly welcomed and assisted to our room, where the ice and champagne glasses were located per our prearranged request. After some challenges getting to NYC due to recent storm Ida's damage, we were at ease while enjoying a glass of bubbly and taking in the stunning view of Columbus Circle from the 46th floor (rm 4608) our room was impeccably cleaned, and turndown was a welcome amenity. (Many luxury hotels have yet to return to providing this service)
evening cocktails and breakfasts were enjoyed at the MO LOUNGE.. again enjoying stunning views of Columbus Circle.
Our 4 night stay was a welcomed experience as we slowly return to life pre-covid.
We really appreciated the extra touches taken by the property to make us feel cared for and safe. From the hand sanitizer to the proof of vaccine required to enter MO Lounge.
Long days at the US Open really made us appreciate the solitude and relaxing space of our room at night.
A beautiful experience. Thank you MONYC.

If you have experienced a mandarin oriental hotel before and you think this will be on the same standard, you are making a very expensive mistake.

The only reason this hotel is still open is the location, the views of central park are indeed amazing and you can walk to all central points of interest, but that is as far as the good goes.

The bad and the terrible:

The concierge service: i approached the concierge 5 times and the standard answer was literally "i don't know", the highlight of the terrible service was recommending a steakhouse that served no steaks.

The breakfast lounge: once you have enjoyed the views and need to actually get some food the appeal ends, very limited choices, very basic cooking. What was particularly offensive was how dirty the tables, carpets and even chairs were, i had to literally clean my seat of crumbs and leftovers while the staff looked at me and offer no help. From there onwards i couldn't stop thinking that if the front is dirty imagine the back...

The room: we booked a large corner room on the top floor, the size and views were amazing. Then it all went downhill, the furniture was old and full of nicks and stains, the carpets are probably the originals from 20 years ago, i opened a window and the dust and spiders that came out scared me into asking the staff to open it. The bed sheets had yellow stains and so did the towels. The amount of dust under the furniture and around the windows, doors, light fittings was clear evidence that housekeeping had not done a full cleaning in a very long time.

What really pushed me over the top was that when my wife complained the service actually went from bad to worst... The room was cleaned but amenities stoped being re filled, towels disappeared, water bottle reduced to half and in general we felt like we were punished for complaining.

I couldn't recommend this hotel to anyone... If i was offered to stay there for free i would skip it!

This hotel offers location and location only, if you are looking for anything else in your experience stay as far away as possible, you can always go for a drink at the lounge and enjoy the views without spending thousands of dollars in mediocre rooms and service.

DID NOT meet expectations!
We expected a certain level of Luxury and organization at this price point.
The bed in our room was not comfortable, however we enjoyed the view and we enjoyed the tub. The bath salt was a nice touch.
In room coffee: Since I did not like the coffee in the restaurant we would drink the coffee in our room one day the coffee was not restock when we called we were told we had to pay, since we were limited to coffee pods (I wish that was clearly stated before we booked the room)! I had never heard of that at any price point hotel and every month we stay at a hotel. The person told us if we wanted more coffee pods we would be charged! However she send us more pods but going forward we would be limited.
The mini bar: Each day we were changed for taking an item from the mini bar when we did not. It was removed but it was annoying to keep asking for it to be resolved.
Restaurant great view however service was lacking we kept getting the wrong bill and one time I was changed $5 for hot water. However we loved the waiter John (or maybe it was Jack) a very nice Filipino man was an excellent server he was very helpful in telling us about the history of the Hotel and the building and the area. We met him before we checked in. He was knowledgeable about the theater. He always had a very welcoming smile and very engaging. When we went back we kept asking for him but he was so busy several people kept asking for him. He did come over to our table to say hello and made us feel very special on our last day.

I would not recommend the Mandarin New York at this time, we were planning to visit the Boston location later this year but due to our experience in New York we are not sure.

I was fortunate enough to stay at the Mandarin Oriental from 18 to 20 February 2022. We were greeted immediately by the doorman, who quickly took our bags. We were registered, ushered to our room within 10 minutes. Our suite had bowls of fruit and bottles of spring water in each bedroom and living room. When we ordered breakfast and coffee delivered to the room, it was delivered timely with all the accoutrements. The staff is friendly and customer oriented. The food in the cafe was delicious and well prepared. I highly recommend this hotel and hope to return soon.

Awesome location, exceptional service. From checkin, to the host at the lobby bar, to the housekeeping staff; there were no disappointments and everyone went above and beyond. This is the first time post-covid that I've stayed in a hotel with daily housekeeping and turndown service and I forgot how much I missed it. Thank you for bringing that back unlike many others who have continued to cut costs by eliminating this service but still charge the same price.

Traveled to NYC to celebrate my son's graduation. Stayed at the M.O. four nights. I booked through Amex Fine hotels and resorts program which is supposed to give me a upgrade if available. The front desk confirmed that there was an upgrade available but I would have to pay an additional $1,000.00. Our room was a room with two twin beds, which was shocking considering the cost of the hotel. Our room was an ADA compliant room with a shower the was built for a wheelchair. No door on the shower just a curtain that got all wet, and stayed wet the hot and cold were reversed and the shower head I just fit under, as it was built for a wheel chair. Many thing in the room were not working including the phone next to the bed, ( I complained about and was told to use the one on the desk and they never fixed it) and the make-up mirror did not work. I view from my room was not of" the park" it was of the building next to M.O. dog urination station. Furthermore the bar was closed and the restaurant under staffed. Each time I had breakfast there I had to carefully review my bill as I found mistakes very morning and had to bring them to the servers attention. Next time I will select a hotel that cam meet the standards for which they claim.

After doing so much research and comparison on an array of hotels I decided to stay at the Mandarin Oriental in NYC. I must say that I was very disappointed with the hotel. Several things come to my head at this moment. From the lack of information related to the hotel cars available to us, the Quality of the food from room service (wrong items and un-cook food), the view from the room was not as requested, constantly extremely loud noises coming from the cleaning staff room next to my room and last but not least the lack of good service from the restaurant during breakfast (forgotten breakfast, coffee and missing from the server). Being a New York native and have experienced a 5 star service in various hotels in NYC, the Mandarin Oriental was a huge disappointment.

I was quite disappointed with my stay at the MO New York. I was surprised to find out that the Afternoon Tea service is no longer offered. That is usually one of the highlights of my trip. The gym and swimming pool closed at 4pm, which is not ideal. At some point hotels should stop blaming everything on Covid, especially when the hotel rates do not reflect the limitations on amenities. The worst part of my experience is that we ate at the restaurant and the food was horrible, coupled with lack luster customer service from our server. For a $35 burger, I was expecting gourmet and delicious, but instead, I got low quality meat that lacked flavor. To add insult to injury, we elected to charge the meal to our room and we did NOT add a tip on the receipt. While I was checking out on our last day, I reviewed my final hotel bill and noticed that the restaurant charge amount differed what I signed on the receipt. The receptionist broke down the pricing and mentioned a $24 tip. I didn't add a tip, I explained and asked to see the signed receipt where it shows that I wrote in a tip. She immediately removed it from my bill, but stated she didn't have the signed receipt. It is illegal for servers/companies to alter a food bill receipt by changing the tip and total amount. Nevertheless, the reason why I am giving a 4 rating and not a zero, is because the hotel staff were very nice and gave wonderful customer service. The room was cleaned twice a day, which was fantastic. The location was excellent.
