The boutique hotel is situated in the heart of New York City's Times Square, encompassing seven floors with 45 guest rooms, two penthouse suites, and a lobby restaurant. Taking from the 1960's and 1970's, the hotel's name is inspired by the cards that once advertised Broadway shows from inside shop windows.

My husband and I went to NYC to check one off the bucket list by seeing the ball drop in person on NYE...what a perfect experience! We had a queen room on the 3rd floor and Jamie at the front desk was able to check us in at noon on the date of arrival. Hotel room was small and no view, but who cares, we were not there to sit in our room. All the front desk employees were super accommodating...even spoke with the General Manager, which asked how things were going. Air conditioner was loud as other have mentioned, they provided ear plugs if needed, but for me, it was perfect I did not need to use a white noise app during the night. Room was really clean and everything in working order. Hotel is in the PERFECT location for sight seeing/walking Times Square/Broadway areas. Rates were higher because of NYE, but nothing like the others I checked. So if location and hospitality is what you are looking for, not room size, this is the place for you!

Location. Location. Location.

Doesn’t get much better than this at this price point. Located within sight of Times Square and 42nd Street, this proved to be the ideal place for the two of us on our holiday in New York.

The start of our stay wasn’t great. No hot water, fridge didn’t work. We were moved to another room. This time fridge didn’t work and the noise from the air conditioner was overwhelming. Third time lucky, we settled into a comfy room on the 3rd floor. A big thank you to Mimi for being an excellent host and making sure we were comfortable and settled.

The rooms although not spacious, were very clean and had all the amenities we required. Plus the room was very, very quiet.

Each room comes with a bar fridge, ironing board, hair dryer, basic toiletries, safe, air conditioner, phone and plenty of power points for charging phones etc.

Another big shout out to Franklin who was always there to help us and is such an amiable and friendly host.

On one side of the hotel is a great place to dine and have a drink Gleason’s. On the other side Billy Crystal was performing.

Buses on 7th Avenue only 60m away take you south of Manhattan. Buses on 6th Avenue only 150m away take you to Uptown.

Would recommend Hotel Shocard.

We stayed here for five days and the location is perfect for exploring. Having caught the Air Train and subway to NYC, the hotel was a few minutes walk from the station. Right next to Times Square but without hearing the noise that comes with it.

There is currently no restaurant or bar at the hotel, however you are right next to hundreds of places to visit. The check in was quick and staff were friendly and helpful throughout.

We stayed on the third floor, with our room at the end of the corridor. The rooms are small but they have everything you need, such as safe, hairdryer, toiletries, water and fridge. There are no tea making facilities but you can get complimentary tea/coffee near reception if you want to. The rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable.

The only gripes we had were the constant smell of cooking oil in the room (and corridor), which must have been blowing from somewhere nearby. The second was a mechanical fan noise outside the bedroom window, which ran 24/7. Clearly outside of the hotels control but something to be aware of.

We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it if visiting New York.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. Absolute worst! Do not do it! No working a/c in first room we were given hotel staff came in and “fixed” it said the thermostat just needed to be reset. We left and came back to our room at 80 degrees. With ac blowing hot air. Told us they were fully booked and couldn’t change our room. Waited until almost 10pm and finally changed our room to a smaller room and did not discount our stay. Got settled in our room and went to take a shower. No hot water. Engineer came upstairs to show us the “trick” of having to turn on the sink and let the hot water run to get the shower to warm up. Carpet nails sticking up in the floor. Ac does not stay at a set temp in the new room and cycles off every few hours and you wake up sweating all through the night. Told us at check in that we would be charged an incidentals fee of $25 per night for incidental fee but that it would fall off after our stay which is fine and similar to most other hotels. Gave them my cc and asked if they took Apple Pay tried to pay and the manager told us that they had it so we waited and he said it was not set up yet so we were good to go. Upon check out we were told that we owed a $100 balance for the the incidental fee and that it would not fall off because it was not charged in the beginning of our stay. We asked the staff to call the other manager that checked us in and she wouldn’t. Went ahead and paid the $100 balance just to get out of that sorry excuse for a motel 6 equivalent. Complete false advertisement and scam. I’ll give hotel Shocard one thing they are exceptional at making the hotel look good online. Do yourself a favor and stay at any other hotel in NY!

The only positive things I have to say about this hotel is the staff, (front desk staff are awesome) and location. Other than that I would be very hard pressed to say anything positive about this establishment.
The full room is pretty much a closet- there’s a reason they don’t show the square footage like most places. It’s small- really SMALL. The first room they gave us had no got water, it was like showering in Lake Superior. But, after numerous complaints they were kind enough to move us to a different room so we could at least clean up.
Again, this room is tiny. It would be okay for a single traveler, but don’t even try with two people.
Now on to my biggest complaint- I ordered a package that included breakfast, and drinks at the restaurant, which is still closed. To make up for that they offered $20/day credit off my stay which I happily took. That was until I checked out and it became $10/day, and $20 for my stay. I was told that it was a “miscommunication”. Well, the miscommunication was they don’t want to honor what they offered. So, I’ll just dispute that with my credit card.
They also have a scam “resort fee” which you get absolutely nothing for. I wasn’t offered a single thing they had listed in it, and until I checked out, got home and looked it up. So, there’s another dispute, I suppose.
All in all, the hotel has a great location, and desk staff. But, I strongly advise against staying here. I have a feeling you’ll feel ripped off, and very disappointed like I do.

We didn't have high expectations of the Shocard after reading a couple recent reviews on here (btw, we had no issues getting our deposits back), but we were pleasantly surprised with our experience there. I must stress that the only reason this review isn't at five stars is the carpet in the room we stayed in. The hotel itself is a bit dark (stylistically), so if you are looking for spacious hallways and cheery colors, this probably isn't the place for you. Our room was awesome, though, with the exception of the carpet. The carpet needs to be replaced in the penthouse - it was torn in places and rippled all over. It was such a mismatch with the rest of the room, though...super comfortable bed, amazing bathroom, small wet bar area...that we were able to overlook it for the couple days we were there. The air conditioning unit did alright for us for being in the midst of a heatwave - we weren't able to get the room down below 73 degrees, but I think that's pretty good for a hotel air conditioning unit like the one we had in those weather conditions.. The staff were super friendly and helpful and definitely a highlight of our stay in NYC. And the location is unbeatable if you are wanting to be near Times Square but a bit away from the bustle. The walk from Penn Station if you are arriving by train is definitely do-able.

We would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family who are traveling and looking for a great place to stay without incredibly high prices.

I planned a trip to NYC month ago. I reserved this hotel with 'Pay when arrive'. 2 days before the flight they send a message at 7am that my payment did not get processed then at 9 am they released the room. Now i have no room because they are overbooked. There is was no call to correct the issue and not even a reasonable time to call back. Beware this hotels policy in this matter is garbage and you could be stuck with no where to stay 2 days before the trip. Obviously financial establishments block transactions out of state occasionally even if you request them to allow.

We booked this hotel sight unseen last min based on reviews after arriving in New York. 3 nights was quoted at $1100 which included taxes. When we got there we were sorely disappointed at the rundown appearance. Our room was loud and our window overlooked a roof top with some machinery on it that was making noise. We requested another room, which was the size of a closet. Seeing what the options were, we clearly did not want to stay here three nights. We were told that the one night rate was over $500 and that we will be stuck paying the one night fee if we canceled the reservation and didn’t stay there at all so we were stuck. The only positive was that the room was clean. When trying to get ice which we were told would come right up, we waited over an hour, made multiple calls and then were told that the person was painting and ice wouldn’t be available for several hours. Staff was rude and unresponsive. The price we paid was outrageous for the dodgy accommodations. We highly DO NOT RECOMMEND. Other options in the area of Times Square for less prices, service when needed, and views. Do your homework.

I checked into Hotel Shocard today & planned to stay for 5 nights. Location is great but when we returned from dinner, the entire 2nd floor smelled of weed. The smell permeated into our room.

I’ve called front desk & asked Alonzo if we can change our room but was told there isn’t a room available. The windows in our room
can’t he opened & we can’t air out the smell
of weed. This is not only a health hazard but it’s also a fire hazard. So, so disappointing!!!

I was able to check in a teeny early, since Jasmine took pity on this redeye flight passenger. This was a small boutique hotel, like if you're walking by and you blink, you'll miss it. BUT you can't beat that location. It's in the middle of everything. And when it comes to the sleep quality, I slept very well considering there's a siren going off every 2 seconds in the area. I rarely heard other neighbors and the housekeeping respected my do not disturb sign.

The TV had decent stations, and the internet signal was strong. The water in the shower comes out HOT!! And there's a mini fridge which kept my waters and leftover Junior's cheesecake nice and chilled.·

My room was very small, which is fine for one person, but 2 may be a bit crowded. The AC works but is LOUD!! The room was decent and clean, but I wish the hotel had a teeny more decor...like...for example....framed showcards on the walls. Like those nice signed ones where they raise money for Broadway cares/Equity fights AIDS. It's called Hotel Shocard, so why not?

Everything about this hotel is small. The lobby is just a counter, the hallways and elevator are small (no key card needed, even though there's a thing for it in there), but I'm small so I was ok with it.
My little room grew on me and became my little quiet sanctuary after barely escaping the craziness of Times Square. It's comfortable, cozy, and I was sad to leave. I'd love to stay here again.
