Location. Location. Location. Doesn’t get much better than this at this price point. Located within sight of Times Square and 42nd Street, this proved to be the ideal place for the two of us on our holiday in New York. The start of our stay wasn’t great. No hot water, fridge didn’t work. We were moved to another room. This time fridge didn’t work and the noise from the air conditioner was overwhelming. Third time lucky, we settled into a comfy room on the 3rd floor. A big thank you to Mimi for being an excellent host and making sure we were comfortable and settled. The rooms although not spacious, were very clean and had all the amenities we required. Plus the room was very, very quiet. Each room comes with a bar fridge, ironing board, hair dryer, basic toiletries, safe, air conditioner, phone and plenty of power points for charging phones etc. Another big shout out to Franklin who was always there to help us and is such an amiable and friendly host. On one side of the hotel is a great place to dine and have a drink Gleason’s. On the other side Billy Crystal was performing. Buses on 7th Avenue only 60m away take you south of Manhattan. Buses on 6th Avenue only 150m away take you to Uptown. Would recommend Hotel Shocard.…
We didn't have high expectations of the Shocard after reading a couple recent reviews on here (btw, we had no issues getting our deposits back), but we were pleasantly surprised with our experience there. I must stress that the only reason this review isn't at five stars is the carpet in the room we stayed in. The hotel itself is a bit dark (stylistically), so if you are looking for spacious hallways and cheery colors, this probably isn't the place for you. Our room was awesome, though, with the exception of the carpet. The carpet needs to be replaced in the penthouse - it was torn in places and rippled all over. It was such a mismatch with the rest of the room, though...super comfortable bed, amazing bathroom, small wet bar area...that we were able to overlook it for the couple days we were there. The air conditioning unit did alright for us for being in the midst of a heatwave - we weren't able to get the room down below 73 degrees, but I think that's pretty good for a hotel air conditioning unit like the one we had in those weather conditions.. The staff were super friendly and helpful and definitely a highlight of our stay in NYC. And the location is unbeatable if you are wanting to be near Times Square but a bit away from the bustle. The walk from Penn Station if you are arriving by train is definitely do-able. We would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family who are traveling and looking for a great place to stay without incredibly high prices. …
Hotel very convenient to the theater district by foot., Rooms we’re a little dark with black decor but that’s just a personal taste item. Staff were extremely friendly. Hotel was very clean. Our room was spacious with bed, couch, bathroom,tv and even outside sitting area on the 7 th floor. Non smoking and I loved that. AC maybe not up to par as room a little stuffy with AC on but we could open our door to the outside for cross breeze. Per effect stay for a quick overnight get away. Melissa
My credit card was charged with an extra $178.54 which the hotel claimed was credit back and it was not. I am out of pocket for this amount, so there is no way I will stay in this hotel again. Hotel does not respond to e-mails. Take your chances if you want to stay in this hotel.
If I could give it 0 stars I would. Absolute worst! Do not do it! No working a/c in first room we were given hotel staff came in and “fixed” it said the thermostat just needed to be reset. We left and came back to our room at 80 degrees. With ac blowing hot air. Told us they were fully booked and couldn’t change our room. Waited until almost 10pm and finally changed our room to a smaller room and did not discount our stay. Got settled in our room and went to take a shower. No hot water. Engineer came upstairs to show us the “trick” of having to turn on the sink and let the hot water run to get the shower to warm up. Carpet nails sticking up in the floor. Ac does not stay at a set temp in the new room and cycles off every few hours and you wake up sweating all through the night. Told us at check in that we would be charged an incidentals fee of $25 per night for incidental fee but that it would fall off after our stay which is fine and similar to most other hotels. Gave them my cc and asked if they took Apple Pay tried to pay and the manager told us that they had it so we waited and he said it was not set up yet so we were good to go. Upon check out we were told that we owed a $100 balance for the the incidental fee and that it would not fall off because it was not charged in the beginning of our stay. We asked the staff to call the other manager that checked us in and she wouldn’t. Went ahead and paid the $100 balance just to get out of that sorry excuse for a motel 6 equivalent. Complete false advertisement and scam. I’ll give hotel Shocard one thing they are exceptional at making the hotel look good online. Do yourself a favor and stay at any other hotel in NY!…
Flew to NY to watch a grand opening of trouble in mind at the American airlines theatre . I wanted a close hotel, one that I felt safe and could walk from Broadway. This place fit the description it was 1 blk (5 min) from my show. The hotel was very clean and the staff was outstanding..I highly recommend this hotel over any place..it was close to everything you can imagine. Walking distance to every transportation. I was only here for 1 night and totally recommend it.
So the location of the hotel is cool but there isn’t much of a view the hotel and rooms themselves are very small. The tv is 25” and the volume would not go above 10 which we didn’t understand. I also had to pay a deposit and a week later still nothing so it feels as if they took my money at this point. It’s better to just pay that little extra not to get this hotel. Also the shower would not get hot which was concerning and the room had a very odd smell.
My boyfriend and I booked a three day-stay in that hotel. We came early and the lovely miss on the reception made the effort to get us a room earlier so we checked in and got into our room almost 3 hours earlier. That was really nice! The staff was welcoming and professional, very helpful. The room was clean and nice. Overall a great stay. Would definetely recommend.
During my recent stay at this hotel we were told that we were receiving our incidental back at the end of the stay, the night before a check out we were told by a different employee that that was not the case and that they will be up charging me. The reason being “people do not normally stay all four days that they book“, not only does that not make any sense but they’re basically telling me because I stayed all the days… That I paid for… That they were gonna be up charging me. And then they hit me with read the fine print BS. They told me that they would contact the employee and speak to him about him telling me the wrong information. They knocked off two days only out of the money they told me I’ll be receiving back as a “courtesy”… ISSUES WITH THE ROOM -The refrigerated barely worked, ice cream melted, nothing stayed cold -The hot water took at least a half hour to get hot maybe 25 minutes the least. -One of the employees had a nasty attitude at the front desk, unless she was in front of other guest who were not of “ethnic groups” -The air conditioner is just that an air conditioner it blows smelly air as if something crawled in it and died in the window, and that’s not even a window there’s no fresh air blowing in. -It’s freezing at night in the room…
The only positive things I have to say about this hotel is the staff, (front desk staff are awesome) and location. Other than that I would be very hard pressed to say anything positive about this establishment. The full room is pretty much a closet- there’s a reason they don’t show the square footage like most places. It’s small- really SMALL. The first room they gave us had no got water, it was like showering in Lake Superior. But, after numerous complaints they were kind enough to move us to a different room so we could at least clean up. Again, this room is tiny. It would be okay for a single traveler, but don’t even try with two people. Now on to my biggest complaint- I ordered a package that included breakfast, and drinks at the restaurant, which is still closed. To make up for that they offered $20/day credit off my stay which I happily took. That was until I checked out and it became $10/day, and $20 for my stay. I was told that it was a “miscommunication”. Well, the miscommunication was they don’t want to honor what they offered. So, I’ll just dispute that with my credit card. They also have a scam “resort fee” which you get absolutely nothing for. I wasn’t offered a single thing they had listed in it, and until I checked out, got home and looked it up. So, there’s another dispute, I suppose. All in all, the hotel has a great location, and desk staff. But, I strongly advise against staying here. I have a feeling you’ll feel ripped off, and very disappointed like I do.…
