Overall we were very pleased with our stay. The hotel has a really cool, modern vibe. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable and the location was great. Our only complaint was there was no coffee maker in the room and no coffee on site. Our only option was to wait in line at Starbucks across the street. We would have given 5 star review if this very basic and normally complimentary amenity was available.

They don't require masks in community areas or in elevators. While the world is struggling with the Delta variant, they have staff members walking around without a mask! As of the date of this post, the CDC is definitely recommending masks to be worn indoors by all people. While in NY, every other restaurant or bar required a vaccination card for entry. The W not only didn't require a vaccination card, they allowed overcrowding in bars and allow people to walk around without covering their face! On multiple occasions, I had to advocate for myself and ask people to wear a mask in the elevator or take another one. Additionally, the bathrooms need a major remodel. The tiling is OLD and more importantly, the dirty shower curtain kept rubbing against my body while in the shower. It was beyond gross! We finally asked for a CLEAN shower curtain. As a Titanium member, there are no additional amenities like free drinks or a concierge floor. This was beyond disappointing.

I stayed at W Times Square and I am afraid the hotel is now completely bare bones, service is inexistent, and when I let the hotel know how I felt to give them an opportunity to react before I post a review, they shrugged shoulders. There was not a hint of customer-centric behavior at this hotel, it’s all about cost cutting and so be it with the consequences. Anybody booking at this property should be aware that they will pay for a room and pretty much nothing else, which can be acceptable for some hotel brands but as far as I am concerned any Marriott brand part of the luxury group such as W (or St.Regis, Ritz Carlton, JW Marriott, etc.), this is unacceptable and a black eye that does not reflect well on the group. I had a room which was 26 square meters, the room was fine but nothing special. The positives first, among the few things I liked was that it was a high floor, it was a nice bright corner room with large windows on two walls and a working desk looking at the Hudson river. One issue is that the room was a bit “standard” especially considering it’s a W, probably closer looking to a run-of-the-mill Sheraton or Marriott, rather than a unique and interesting W or Design Hotel room. A feature which could bother some couples was the frosted glass wall in the bathroom which allowed someone in the bed to partially see the toilet. I also thought soundproofing was deficient considering I was on the 43rd floor and could still hear significant street noise not to mention the loud construction noise nearby. Post covid, almost everything has been stripped from the room, there was not even a coffee machine, and not even a single bottle of water; one of the few things left was an ice bucket, however the irony is that the hotel deactivated ice machines in the entire hotel. Ice machines? That is quite creative covid cutting. One thing which was thankfully not cut: they still had Momo bathroom amenities rather than downgrading to a generic brand, and there was also a bathrobe available. Regarding breakfast, W Times Square is walking a fine line with their cost cutting considering the Platinum breakfast elite guarantee has been reinstated Marriott recently. The Dos Caminos restaurant is open and serves breakfast, however I was informed that I would have to charge it to my room and they would not waive the charge. Their reasoning is that the restaurant is independently owned therefore they don’t need to pay. In my opinion it’s just an excuse, if they wanted to honor the elite breakfast benefit they would like other hotels do, for example immediately before my stay at W I stayed at Refinery Hotel; they also have a restaurant connected to the hotel which is independently owned, and they waive the breakfast charges to loyalty program elites. In addition, I was informed that W does not offer room service at this time, which would be fine if this was a select service hotel, but for a luxury hotel not so much. Once again the covid rationale is not the most logical because in-room dining would arguably be a safer option than dining in the restaurant and there are several non-luxury hotels in NYC currently offering in-room dining. Service is currently close to inexistent: there is no bellman, no doorman, and no valet. As mentioned above, when I pointed out some of their questionable practices, my clear takeaway was that their goal was clearly not to please customers to ensure they leave the hotel as happy guests, their goal was to cut costs. They simply kept trying to defend their decisions rather than offer alternatives so there was no point in arguing. At least I gave them the courtesy of communicating my thoughts rather than catch them blindsided with a poor review after the fact. One of the very few contacts I had with staff during my stay was not even one I wanted to have. When I checked in I was asked if I needed late check-out and I said 2pm so the hotel was aware of my departure time. On the day of check-out, it was barely 20 minutes past noon that in their rush to clean my room, someone from housekeeping came knocking despite the “do not disturb” sign being on my door and no more than 4 seconds later as I was walking to open the door, housekeeping barged in my room. So after not having any kind of service during my stay, to cap things off I get housekeeping walking in my room with DND and without waiting for me to open the door. Nice - the picture-perfect ending to a terrible stay. Overall I am not exactly sure what is the difference between this hotel and a Four Points brand hotel (or worse) right now. Not only the room is not very much W-style, but when cutting to the bone somehow it feels more off for a W brand hotel given what it’s supposed to be, than it would if cutting a JW Marriott to the bone. Despite the fact that conditions are difficult for hotels right now, given what other hotels in NYC are currently doing I think W still has brand standards to uphold; they fail miserably, and knowingly.

I was greatly disappointed by my stay at this hotel by number of experiences. Firstly, being a Gold Elite Member, there was nothing extraordinary of the membership level offered at this property. My entire experience from start to end was a challenge and a bitter experience. I have paid for a property rated as a Category 7 and was greatly shocked when, upon check in, was told the hotel has no room service available due to the COVID situation of staffing, a mere excuse. This was disappointing since neighboring hotels were offering a full service at similar price levels. Thereafter, I kept suffering from very slow internet speed issues despite subscribing for high speed internet. I even called in a couple of times and registered my complaint but was left helpless and chose to simply ignore it. This just added to the frustration levels throughout my 13 days stay at the property. Finally, upon check-out, I had an early morning check-out at 6:30 am on the 26 August. To my horror, there was no bell service available until 9:00 am (Whenever Whatever advised no bell service until 10:00 am). I was left dragging my several pieces of luggage without any help from the hotel despite paying a price of a Category 7 hotel and paying for full service !!! There was no doorman service either at the hotel to assist with loading / off-loading of luggage at the hotel either. This is absolutely ridiculous and certainly would advise against staying at this property.

Staff was great and very helpful, hotel rooms are very outdated and windows are filthy so you have a great view but it's useless. I was charged twice for my stay and I have yet to hear back from anyone regarding this issue. It's going on almost three weeks, and I still don't have my refund of $1,000+ I prepaid for my stay on May 30, 2021. That debit card was deactivated months after because it was stolen, so it was replaced with a new debit card, still the same bank and account. When I check in I'm told at the front desk that I have to use the original card to keep on file for my stay. I explained what happened and am told that I'll have to PAY AGAIN with my new debit card and will get reimbursed when I check out, mind you this extra $1,000+ charge is my VACATION FUND (and I'm a single mother so no extra funds!!) for my sons and I to spend in NYC but I have no choice and had to pay double for my stay. This caused a lot of issues for me, so no I did not enjoy my stay! No one called me from accounting or W Hotel regarding this. Why would you try to refund the card that's been deactivated...the main reason why I had to pay again for my stay on my new debit card?! If they kept trying to refund the money and had issues why didn't someone try calling me??!!! There was obviously no communication between front desk/registration and the accounting department. Someone dropped the ball, and the one financially suffering is the me, the client!!! So very frustrating.......
