Timing is key. Stayed after Christmas and booked a winter special package over a quiet weekend, got room + free buffet breakfast + bottle of wine + free upgrade with tax and fees for under $189 a night. The ultimate NYC bargain. Originally booked queen luxury room, instead got free upgrade to King Executive with included a huge marble bathroom...

I almost did not book this hotel because of all the negative comments, but seriously I don't know what the other posters are complaining about. The hotel is situated very close to Grand Central Station which made is very accessible for us as we arrived in town via the train. We arrived extremely early and the staff allowed us to...

If you absolutely have to stay in midtown, there are far better options than the Dylan. My reservation at one of these other hotels got flubbed, so I called the Dylan to see what they had. They left me on hold for 15 minutes, so I hung up and called back and he said he'd forgotten about me, but didn't...

I was very disapointed with the Dylan Hotel. The rooms were shabby at best. As a matter of fact after the second unacceptable room we left and went to the Waldorf where for $80/night more we were put on the concierge floor. I have stayed at other small hotels in NYC (The Drake being foremost and this hotel was not...

I needed to spend several days at the New York Public library to finish research for my book - A VAST AND FIENDISH PLOT - The Confederate Attack on New York City (coming March 2010 from Kensington Press in NYC). The Dylan is only 4 blocks from the library, making this the IDEAL hotel for someone who needs to do...

Stayed two nights at the Dylan Hotel in October 2009. One block from Grand Central Station and a 10 minute walk to Times Square and the theatre district. The room was average in size for NY standards. The truffles and a nice bottle of water greated me in the room. I was impressed with the front desk staff. I needed...

The Dylan hotel is a small boutique type hotel located very near the train station - Grand Central Terminal. The lobby is small but leads to a nice on-site and full service restaurant. Small elevators so can't get much luggage or people in at once. Spacious hallways and my room was very large. I don't know if my room size...

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Dylan Hotel in Manhattan unites tradition and modernity exquisitely and with a contemporary elegance that captivates our guests. The building is very emblematic, first having been the residence of the Welsh writer, Dylan Thomas, and later the headquarters of the New York Pharmacists Club. The Dylan Hotel combines the classical lounges and guest rooms of the period with ambiances and areas in contemporary design. We are a non-stop hotel, because the Big Apple never stops. For this reason, the gym and the business centre are open 24 hours a day. ... more   less
