Spent a long weekend here and staying in this run down hotel was the worst part of the trip. I know that many hotels have adjusted due to COVID, but they falsely advertised this hotel. I also cannot figure out what they charged a $40/a day amenity fee for since there weren't any. The advertised robes and stocked mini fridge were not in the room, only a couple $9 water bottles. The lounge and restaurant were closed, so as breakfast they offered a to go cart with cereal and such and the worst coffee. The "floor to ceiling" window was a very narrow thing that shed little light into the room. The toilet was extremely noisy and there was no housekeeping over the three nights we stayed there. Thankfully, we spent little time in the room. I cannot recommend.

The place is in disrepair. The first room we got had a broken door and the air conditioning was extremely noisy. We switched to a different room and the fridge was broken. The rooms are dirty and beaten up, and look nothing like the pictures. We were informed that our room will only be cleaned once every 3 days. The restaurant and lounge were closed and breakfast was served from a small cart in the lobby. The front desk (more like a table in front of the elevators) was often unattended and no one was there to greet or help you. We moved out early and switched to a different hotel.

Worst hotel experience I’ve had in many decades of travelling. But wonderful to be travelling again. 1st words of praise to Keith (front desk) and Dejeuner (general hotel worker) who were excellent in terms of attitude, they wanted to be helpful. Experience was sub-std - I don’t know who to blame the hotel, the government (for incentivising people not to work) or C19 an excuse for mediocrity? Keith and Dejeuner appeared to be the only employees in the hotel - non-servicing of the rooms and a despicable level of cleanliness from the dirty sheets to dusty furniture (see photos). But hey they gave us individually plastic-wrapped paper cups! When we arrived we were allocated a room that had just been occupied and not cleaned it literally looked like someone had just had a wonderful tussle in the bedroom but look a the bright side we got an upgrade as a consequence of the dirty room. So difficult to know I can’t possibly blame the staff because they r hard-working people in a large hotel and effectively running everything. On our first visit to New York in over four years, I was concerned there was a good chance that service @ hotels would be sub-std and I was right. Mega frustrated not to have a room cleaned for more than three days anticipating a clean room on day four and guess what nada – we even had to empty our own rubbish and deal with a blocked toilet… not even plastic bags to put the garbage in no fresh towels a general dirty experience…. Not going back!

I recently stayed at 48Lex on June 7, 2021 in room 705. I checked in late around 9:30. When I pulled the sheets back from my bed, there was unmistakably a spot of blood on the fitted sheet. Rather than deal with getting the sheets changed, I slept in my close on top of the covers. I could probably stop there but I won’t. The furniture was incredibly worn. For example, the pleather desk chair was visibly fringing down the side. It looked like a cat went to town. When I took a shower the next day, the recessed light in the shower stall was flashing it’s last signs of life. Worse, there was someone else’s hair on the shower wall, suggesting the stall may not have been thoroughly cleaned...or cleaned. Finally, the day after I check out I get an extra charge for a minibar item. I didn’t take a minibar item but that’s not the first time I’ve been charged by 48Lex for a mini bar item I didn’t take. Last time it was champagne. All good: My credit card company will reimburse me but you don’t need to nickel and dime your guests. It’s truly a pathetic, disingenuous and deceiving billing practice. I live just up the street from the hotel and stay a night here or there when I need to get out of the apartment. There’s plenty of other hotels in the area that are much cleaner, have larger rooms and don’t have questionable billing practices. Affina Gardens for example is a superior alternative at about the same price point. (Couldn’t stay there on the 7th because it was booked.) Then why do I stay 48Lex? I don’t anymore as of June 8th.

I've been staying at this hotel since it first opened as a Hyatt and have stayed many, many times (more than 30x). I really liked the restaurant, the valet service, and the lounge service in the past. I know it's still the pandemic, but I didn't realize how much this place had changed. The restaurant is closed. There is no valet. There is no bellhop. We pulled up to the hotel by car and was told they didn't have a valet service anymore (they used to for almost 10 years). There was also no one to help with bags. Just a single guy sitting at the front desk behind a plexiglass shield. There is no lounge service. I paid a mandatory $40 fee for breakfast and afternoon wine & cheese. We asked about the wine and cheese after we arrived and were told there was no cheese but we could have some wine brought to our room - I guess that would be cool if we wanted to get plastered before dinner without food. The breakfast the following morning was coffee in the lobby (no decaf/no tea) with some 7/11-worthy pastries in plastic wrappers. There was one yogurt when I arrived (just after 9am on a Saturday). I asked if there was another given we are two in the room. Nope. My wife drinks tea and can't eat gluten so breakfast was a bust. The rooms are how I remember them but they don't do turndown service unless you ask them (apparently). Why do I have to ask? Doesn't everyone go to bed in the evening? The shampoos, conditioner and shower gel are large and reusable so not entirely cool in covid times. We checked out and waved bye-bye. I won't be back. It's really just building with rooms. No service.
