The awesomely funky lower east side is best experienced from Sanctuary New York City suites. Our Queen suite included a really comfortable queen bed with cozy duvet, it fully appointed kitchen and separate bathroom with shower but not bath and a rollout folding bed for the third guest. The heating was ample and the room included a little tiny patio...

Good room. Good facilities. Helpful staff. Free yoga! Well located. Great local bars and restaurants. Get breakfast as included. Nearby convenience stores. You could also look at the older rooms at different location. If you are fit (no lifts at that one) then you can get a top floor apartment with rooftop table and chairs with views across New York....

First time staying here, and I will definitely be back. Great value for what you get. Quite neighbourhood, its nice to come back to your room after a busy day in the city and its just a short walk to the subway where the F train will take you to all the main stops. Wholefoods is about a 15 min...

This place seemed to good to be true! The price was very reasonable; my first encounter with the staff via e-mail, phone and in person was professional and friendly; the location was great - easy to find and the neighbourhood seemed safe. The rooms had a great design and the whole atmosphere was a complete contrast from the hustle and...

We just returned from a 6 night stay, and were very pleased with our overall experience. The kitchen was not open during our stay, so we cooked our own breakfast's. There are many fine restaurant's in the area. Our favorite was MasalaWala Indian restaurant on Essex, near Houston. Our only complaint's were the air conditioning was excessively loud, and the...

We got a pretty good price for the King suite, and couldn't believe how beautiful the apartment was when we arrived. Tons of space for four people including the huge outside patio. Gorgeous big kitchen with modern appliances, lots of storage and very comfy beds. We liked the fact that it was meat free. The staff are wonderful, very cheery...

We are a couple with a 6 years old kid. We find Sanctuary Guest Suits truly comfortable, in a great location, in a neighbourhood with real people, not just turists. 10 minutes walk from the subway and close to everything. We love it.

We stayed here for 5 nights. The room was spacious for our family. Couldnt find any fault. Very very clean and smells good. This is far better than staying in an expensive hotel. Love the local area, late convenient stores, laundry, market, reasonable distance to subway. Dont miss Clinton St. Baking next street.Thank you Sanctuary Guest Suites for making our...

I am a seasoned traveler and in the past I have stayed in luxury properties ranging from very high end hotel chains to more middle-of-the-road, family style chains like "The Holiday Inn". I hold high expectations for wherever I spend my dollar and I expect the basics of clean, quiet rooms with good quality beds and linens. In the end...

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Sanctuary NYC Retreats was established by a group of health, eco, and spiritually conscientious travelers. They came together with two ideas in mind: To provide other travelers with a peaceful, retreat-like stay in NYC and to create an opportunity to give back to our community. Each suite at Sanctuary features a fully equipped kitchen and a flat-screen cable TV. The suites are decorated in warm colors and Indian folk art. Select rooms have a sofa bed and private patio. Complimentary continental breakfast is offered Monday-Friday only. The Lower East Side is the oldest neighborhood in New York City and presently one of the most fashionable in Manhattan. Once the home for working-class European immigrants, the LES has become one of the trendiest areas in the city full of cool boutique hotels, bars, restaurants, yoga studios, fashion stores, health food stores, art galleries and live music venues. Iconic artists like Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro, Lou Reed and Leonard Cohen used to live on our street and countless movies and TV shows are filmed around throughout the year. Just blocks away is the Delancey/Essex Subway Station and a quick train ride to Midtown (Union Square, Flatiron District, Empire State Building, Times Square and Central Park) or Brooklyn (Williamsburg, DUMBO). A few minutes walking and you can be anywhere Downtown: East Village, SoHo, West Village, Little Italy, Chinatown and East River Park. ... more   less
