Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

Moxy NYC Downtown has earned a reputation for its lively atmosphere, particularly with its fun lobby-bar-disco combo that's a hit amongst many guests, although a few may find it overstimulating. While the hotel's cleanliness and convenient location near attractions and subway access garner positive remarks, the service receives mixed reviews, ranging from friendly to unresponsive. The rooms, described as very small by several travelers, and the daily destination fee, have raised concerns about the hotel's overall value, particularly for business travelers.

DAYUSE = NO USE - This has been an absolute disaster!! A wasted 90 dollar ride into nyc from the airport to get to this hotel who didn’t have my reservation ready!! I booked 10-4 pm as need to leave 4pm and go back to airport! Wasted an expensive taxi ride to get there at 10.45 just for them to say they don’t have a room for my reservation ready, do I wanna wait??? So what is going on!??? 6hr time booking and you want me to wait. I came here to sleep and booked it to do that! Not wait till a room is ready!! Am I supposed to wait and still pay full price for less hrs sleep ?? Yes apparently This was booked thru DAYUSE, and now I have no where to sleep for the few hrs I need and paid for taxi 90 dollars to get to this stupid hotel. What is going on!? Wasting my time and money !!! Worst of all you shouldn’t be selling rooms that you don’t have! And least of all your staff just said … do you wanna try find yourself somewhere other hotel! Wasted taxi fare to this awful place!

My mom and I recently stayed here for a little getaway. Every single staff member that we encountered was extremely friendly and helpful. Very good location, with a nearby subway entrance and walking distance to many attractions including Wall Street, 9/11 Memorial and the Statue of Liberty. The hotel is great, but the staff is what really puts it over the top!

The check in and stay were actually great. The front desk staff at check in was extremely helpful (Corday?). Room was very small but fine for my one night stay. I got a pre-bill emailed to me before I checked out and it wasn’t right. I booked the room on the hotel tonight app so room and tax were paid for. I was prepared to pay the ‘destination charge’ of $28 directly to the hotel. When I mentioned this at the FD at checkout I was flippantly told that the pre-bill was wrong and it would be fixed in the final bill. I got the final bill after I left the property and it was still wrong. I tried to call the hotel 6 times. Two of the times I waited on hold for close to 30 min. I hung up both times and tried to call back. The person answering the phone wouldn’t let me expalain that I had been waiting on hold for over an hour combined. They just kept answering and immediately putting the call on hold so that I couldn’t get a word in. There should be a way to talk to someone at the hotel without waiting on hold for that long. Or maybe provide an email address so that the request can be sent electronically and dealt with when there is time. Terrible customer service and that has ruined the entire stay for me and I still don’t have resolution for the over billing.

I understand that Newyork is know worldwide for being a tourist trap where they just want to scam your money away, but this is ridiculous. Arrived on the 22nd after 8 hours flight, rooms are unbelievably small with no closet, literally two little stools where to put clothes. No even complimentary water (you will be charged 6$ if you happen to be thirsty after 8 hours flight). THIS IS NOT THE WORST PART After couple of days we asked to get our room cleaned the next day and , after being out for like all day, we came back and the room was left exactly how it was. We had to call at 11pm to get fresh towel to have a shower!! The reception didn't have an explanation for that and luckily they managed to clean it next room. THE WORST STILL HAVE TO COME I work in hospitality and I can tell, this is ABSOLUTELY WORST TABLE /BAR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO PUT IT SERVICE. DON'T GET BREAKFAST IN THE HOTEL IF YOU HAVE PLANS FOR THE MORNING!! Very rude and stressed waiters, breakfast absolutely overcharged and with minimum waiting time of 30/40 MINS for a sandwich!! I HAVE NEVER SEEN A FRONT OF HOUSE SERVICE SO BAD.. It is a shame this being from same Mariott brand since it really lower the name of it. The worst part is that is classified as 4 STAR HOTEL!!! THIS SHOULD BE BARELY AN HOSTEL, THE FACT IS SUPPOSED TO BE 4 STARS IS UNBELIEVABLE... Location is good but it's the only part, for everything else is absolutely OVERPRICED AND UNDERTRAINED/RUDE/DON'T CARE STAFF. Definitely NOT RECOMMEND

Nice room, surprisingly spacious, comfy beds, good breakfast, cool, lobby and rec room with great bar, foosball, table, top, shuffleboard, video games, ski ball, all complementary. But most important, the best service I have ever had at any hotel, including the five star ones. Justin at the Front Desk was incredibly nice when we checked in early. Absolutely everyone else who worked there was super helpful, super responsive. Just a real gem review of a hotel.

The rooms are tiny tiny, and they have a couple of tiny folding tables hanging on the wall. They will charge you an extra $25+tax per day for destination fee. It's a scammy practice. On top of that they overcharged me for water I never used (I bought warer bottles from the CVS on the corner, but they just saw the bottle and they just charged away). Getting in touch with them is impossible, nobody ever pick up the phone, I must have called 5 times and waited 30+ minutes. Ended up going via Marriot but still they had to send them a message and wait to respond. Just save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else

The hotel was great- cool interiors, super clean room with luxurious design and a great bathroom. What inspired this review, however, was the kindness of the manager (I'm sorry I didn't get your name), after an excruciatingly frustrating mishap occurred with the key to my room that had me in FULL tears. While I left the hotel vocally upset, I very quickly came to appreciate how incredibly refreshing it was to have a manager take responsibility for his staff, genuinely apologize for the confusion, and make an effort to make it right. I appreciated that SO much.. and wanted to let you know that. The date was 12/6. I hope you are recognized by the company for your humanity and customer service. Because of you, I will be back to the Moxy Downtown!

Extremely dissatisfied with the level of customer service. Room was booked however due to flight delay we called to inform we would not be arriving to the next day. We arrived the next day to be informed our room had been sold to someone else and we would need to re-book another room. How can you sell our room which had been paid for in advance to someone else?! Due to having friends staying at the same hotel we did re-book as we were told we would be refunded for the original booking and revive the room for the same price as originally booked due the error of giving our room to someone else. I made the error of believing the manager and am still waiting for the refund of the room they gave to someone else and to be credited for the extremely inflated price we paid for the other room. The hotel has NOT been responded to emails to resolve this matter, but was happy to receive double payment for a room?! How is this legally allowed. The level of service by the manager at this property is not acceptable. It is unfortunate I am needing to write this review but left with no other option due to lack of response for 3 months.

Dear Rhian554, Thank you for evaluating your recent stay with us. We regret that the room you requested was unavailable on your arrival, and we apologize for any frustration this undoubtedly caused. We know our apologies will not make up for the inconvenience, but we are indeed sorry. We do regret any disappointment and inconvenience due to the retainer. This hotel is designed for young people visiting NYC, not for professional business travellers. The overwhelming smell of marijuana envelops the entrance reception and does not present the type of experience that you expect when arriving after a long flight to NYC. The rooms are basic and lack basic requirements you expect for a business hotel. The bathroom was clean and modern however the rooms are small, there was a lack of hanging area for clothes the room had no desk or chair. I am sure that this hotel would be suitable for tourists however this hotel was not designed for professional business travellers in mind. Furthermore the room was not serviced during the 5 nights of my trip even after requesting this twice. I would not recommend or return to this hotel again.
