Moxy NYC Downtown is a high-energy hotel that captivates guests with its eclectic decor and vibrant atmosphere, featuring a DJ and arcade games, although the lively ambiance may not suit everyone. While the rooms are on the smaller side, their innovative design and cleanliness are often appreciated. Located in a trendy district, its proximity to subway stations and downtown eateries is highly praised.
Guests enjoy the range of amenities, including complimentary beverages and free bikes, despite some concerns about the volume of the DJ sets. Service experiences are mixed, with reports of both attentive staff and occasional slow responses.

The rooms are a bit on the small side, but well appointed. There is a drawer at the foot of the bed with a safe, iron, steamer and folding ironing board. The hanging egg chair was a painful design choice that should have been a small corner desk, and the peekaboo shower window is strange, but otherwise I think they did a good job maximizing the space. Kudos to having tons of electrical outlets. I didn’t love the 2 in 1 shampoo/body wash but otherwise all shower products were provided.
The elevators run slow and fill easily during peak periods like 9-12pm (checkout time) and evening when everyone is trying to go to their room but nothing detrimental as others have mentioned . The restaurant/bar area is nice but the DJ plays music way too loud - let’s be real, this isn’t a club. The bar seems like it could benefit from another staff member. We enjoyed the complimentary games like skeeball, tabletop shuffle board, fooseball and the half basketball court. They had TONS of board games so it was really pure seeing adults sipping drinks with some throwbacks like Guess Who.
I had some easily fixable issues with my room that prior guests hadn’t reported, but Justin at the front desk was prompt to help get them addressed quickly and Bradley at maintenance was friendly and efficient. Speaking of the front desk — there is one check in desk on the floor level, which is minimal and small, essentially a widened elevator hallway. But they are often serving complimentary beverages like spiked lemonade, mimosas and cold water which I thought was nice. There are another 2 desks on level 3 which were intermittently staffed. This is where the bar/restaurant and main room elevators are. I took advantage of the free bikes, which was a really nice feature. No one seems to write about this - they are 3 speed hybrid bikes with a front basket, helmet and Kryptonite coil lock. They’re much more user friendly than Citibikes, not nearly as heavy and clunky. I’m short and was skeptical they’d have one small enough for me but they did and it had an easy adjustable seat.

This is my second time staying at the Moxy downtown. As a New Yorker enduring the winter here I like to get creative and do a “staycation” in a different area of manhattan and love choosing FiDi/Seaport. The Moxy is by far the best deal if you’re visiting from out of town and want to be steps from every major subway line, near all of the major destinations and have a plethora of wonderful dining options within two blocks. The hotel itself is high on design making NYC standard sized rooms creative and livable. The 3rd floor is massive and fun with a live DJ on the weekends, great bar, Basketball court, air hockey etc etc. great space to have friends come and join. The hotel staff from Justin at check-in to food and bev and crew go above and beyond! All were accommodating and lovely to me and my service dog. If you’re coming to NYC and want the absolute best value while still staying in a chic hotel that’s safe, convenient and views for days forget staying in midtown and come here

Our stay at the Moxy Downtown was great -- the hotel lobby smelled nice and offered luggage storage upon request. The food at the lounge was excellent, I ordered the Wagyu Chopped Cheese. Specifically, our server Majed and our bartender Luis were very kind and attentive as we waited for our room to be ready!
Would recommend for folks who plan on exploring downtown NYC.

Honestly the hotel is nice and overall okay. The reason why I am giving two stars is because they failed at providing me a promised refund. When I checked in I was told that the $25 destination fee is not refundable but whatever my breakfast fee is will be credited towards the $25. So I eat breakfast there. I never get the credit back. I called them a week after the stay and was informed I would be receiving an updated email with the correction within 15 minutes. This never happens and this was also a week ago.
The other thing that happened was after I had checked into my room I called for a toothbrush. I was told it would be sent up right away. About an hour later I called back down to ask for the status. This time another person picked up and informed me I would need to come down to pick it up myself. I politely explained that is not a problem but would have been nice if someone told me that an hour ago so I wouldn’t be waiting for it and it’s now past midnight. When I said that the lady on the phone then stated she just came on shift- will ask about what was previously promised and then agreed to send someone up with a toothbrush.
I hope they can use this review to work on improving their processes so future clients have a better experience with them.

A surprise “Destination Fee” of $50 was added to our rate at checkin with no previous warning. The fee gave us a credit at the terrible, noisy restaurant on site, free tickets to the Statue of Liberty Ferry and use of bikes. Our trip was already planned, so the destination fee was pointless.
In the restaurant every food item was terrible and the restaurant doubles as a disco, so we were not able to talk at dinner. Furthermore, it was not possible to order 2 menu items within the $25 allowance. Breakfast was stale croissants and average coffee take out. We pitched the croissants after one bite.
The little bit of room furniture was chipped up, the automatic window shades did not work, first shower was cold, and the water would not shut off after the shower. They never cleaned our room or made the bed.
This hotel is not comfortable, not maintaned, or transparent.

VERY DISAPPOINTED. Booked my stay over a month ago and the DAY OF checking in a receive an email that my booking has been canceled and they will be rebooking me elsewhere with no proper explanation. Worst part, a few of of colleagues still had their reservations and when we got to the hotel (i had packages to collect) they offered them UPGRADES, so clearly had rooms. When I asked if I could book a room for the night one of the front desk staff said they had a room available and the other quickly shut him down. All very dogey to me. Will not be giving this place another chance and neither should you!

The hotel looks beautiful, but they clearly picked style over function. The rooms are small and barely have any furniture besides a bed, two flimsy fold out stools, and a ridiculous hanging chair/swing. No closet, no table, no dresser. Two people with any amount of luggage would not fit in the room. The water pressure is terrible and the elevators are slow. There is a $25 destination fee per day. You are credited $25 for food/drinks purchased ‘on site’- as there is only a bar at the hotel, no restaurant, I ordered from the (very limited) room service menu. I was later informed that the credit was only for purchases at the bar, but since that was not made clear to me up front, they did offer to refund me. I appreciate that the staff was helpful and friendly, but they are unfortunately working at a very poorly designed hotel.

I arrived having flown a transatlantic flight to phone down to reception to be told that they don’t offer room service at all, most disappointing for a 4 star hotel. There was no tea / coffee making facilities in the room, no turn down and room cleaning was every other day.
From when I checked in on the Monday afternoon and when I returned to my room on the Wednesday afternoon my room still hadn’t been cleaned. I had to phone down to reception to get it finally cleaned. A pizza box that I put outside my hotel door remained there for over 24 hours and was never cleared, even after housekeeping had been to clean my room.
For a hotel that charges $480 a night they offer a terrible service but know how to charge. I shared this feedback with front desk on my departure and was assured it would be given to the manager but so far I have heard nothing back. Most disappointing stay at the Moxy and wouldn’t recommend.

The location is good. The rooms and the service are awful.
Rooms: small as everywhere; but to the point that there is no wardrobe - one is supposed to hang clothes on free hangers on a wall which makes a room look incredibly messy. There also is no desk, and there are no chairs. There is instead a bulky and instagrammable but entirely useless hanging chair that occupies the only useful space. Also no fridge/minibar/coffee machine or hot water kettle. Absolutely nothing.
Sheets are not ironed. The sheet cover was dirty. There also is no duvet in case one is cold (and where would they store it, there is no wardrobe!!). Same as the bathroom floor: filthy. Moreover, there is no body lotion, no toiletries other than soap, shampoo and conditioner.
Service - when I arrived to check in I didn’t see a single smile from the receptionist, she was cold to the point of almost being rude.
