I’ve stayed at the Public Hotel a few times and I largely enjoy the services and comfort they offer. Unfortunately the last time I stayed, the room next to mine had a party. I called front desk and complained twice from 11.30pm but the party ignored the warning security gave them, continuing to play loud music until 4am. By the second complaint I had expected the hotel to ask those who weren’t staying at the hotel to leave the room but to my disappointment nothing had been done. I emailed the hotel to complain twice and unfortunately on both occasions, received no response. Perhaps a hotel not suited for business trips.
The whole concept is nice. But the operation and installations aren’t. The bathroom isn’t actually a bathroom. It’s look like it is not even concluded, like something to be finished. The staff in the check in area aren’t friendly at all. One highlight to be mentioned was Cesa (or Cesar) from the Public Kitchen. He gave us the best attendance by far. The rest of the staff from the Hotel should follow his shoes. Do not recommended for couples. The rooms are made for single travelers. If you are travelling alone, this is the spot. Cookies at night were another highlight.
I stayed here for 4 nights on a work trip. There isn't a formal lobby for check-in which I thought was efficient until all the iPads stopped working and there was a line for check-in/check-out/baggage hold all the way to the bar. The room was quite small but I loved the layout of the space - it made it feel bigger than what is was. The control panel next to the bed was great! It controlled the lights, window shade and curtains. I liked how updated the hotel room was - Apple TV, Bluetooth speaker, updated shower and toilet - but it was missing a few standard items all hotels have such as facial tissue and laundry bags. Location - The location was nice for vacation but since I was traveling for work I found it a little inconvenient to get to my specific locations. There's tons of food nearby so that was nice, especially since the room service was subpar. Overall, I will probably not stay at the Public for my next work trip but I may recommend it for a getaway weekend! (Traveler - Jas)…
Small but cozy and functional room. The designer made great use of the space. Great location. The hotel was very cool inside, had everything we needed for the most part. The view was absolutely amazing. Waking up to the sunrise and beautiful view of NYC was definitely a one of a kind experience. Would definitely stay here again. The one thing that would have made it extra special would have been having a coffee maker in the room so that you could make a nice cup of coffee and enjoy the view. However, they do have a place to buy coffee and food right downstairs.
I stay in hotels 2 or 3 nights a week around the world. I have always been a fan of Schrager and what he does, sadly this is a total failure for the traveler. Do not stay here, the staff are to concerned about their look, rather than helping you, the facilities are a complete joke
