PUBLIC Hotel is a bit of a mixed bag, really this is a 3 1/2 star review, but it is closer to 4 than 3!! The hotel is very easy to get to on public transport from JFK making the trip super cheap. It also has great metro connections allowing you to get around the city incredibly easily. The park across from the hotel is busy all the time and from our room gave a great space to watch to pass the time. The staff, architecture, ambiance and general modern style of the hotel are second to none. You really feel like you are experiencing the future of hotel stays with the modern bars, lounges and general experience of using the hotel. We only experience the food/coffee from Louis's but if this was anything to go by the food and drink options are excellent. As a guest it would be great to have a dedicated are on The Roof, but this doesn't detract from what an amazing space this was. It is another huge plus for the hotel that you will struggle to get anywhere else in NYC, or in many other cities we have visited. The main issue with the hotel relates to the rooms. And this is where the mixed bag begins. We were staying in a "King Great View". Unfortunately the view from our room (1503) was half blocked by the neighboring building. This was made worse by the orientation of the bed, which meant that your view when the impressive automatic shades lifted was mostly of a brick wall. A huge shame given the other direction was of Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges. So not quite as "great" a view as it could have been as there is no way to then sit and look at the view as laying in the bed is the only real option. There are no heated towel rails in the rooms. This is bizarre in a sustainability conscious hotel as it means your only real option is new towels every day. It really wouldn't have made any difference to the shower/wc pod to have had a heated rail. Not a game changer but just something that makes a difference. There is also no hook/rail for a hand towel next to the sink. So if you wash your hands/face while someone is using the loo, you have to wait for them to finish to dry your hands!!! These are tiny issues, but they do make a difference certainly from a 5 star, and would really nudge below a 4 star. However, don't let my tiny gripes stop you staying at an excellent hotel which ticks pretty much all the boxes as a base to explore NYC in serious style.…
I had an amazing weekend with my best friend at the Public Hotel. I loved the efficiency of the Public App and self check-in. The hotel staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. Angel and Wolfgang were the best!! We had one small hiccup and they helped us us every step of the way. We enjoyed dining at Popular and had great pastries and coffee at Louis. We can’t wait to come back!
We visited this hotel for a special occasion and absolutely loved it. We have stayed at Citizen M in the Bowery before and thought this was great, Public is even better!!!! The room is gorgeous and the bed is very comfortable. Loved the rooftop bar, it even offers free wine for guests at happy hour. We booked a room with great view and it was worth every penny. Location is brilliant, Whole Foods is literally next door. It has a garden at the front of the hotel and a lovely cafe in the lobby. Nearby has a great selection of restaurants, shopping and is close to the subway Highly recommend this hotel 👍
My friends I came to public hotel roof for some drinks after the pride parade and our bartender William was amazing. I’ve never seen someone work so fast in my life and his mojitos were to die for. This is def our new summer spot!!!
Im not sure where all these people stayed who rave about this hotel. We had the worst experience at this place. For a start, all the seating on the roof terrace is reserved, so there is nowhere for any hotel guest to sit and enjoy a cocktail, which is a real shame. The hotel are all about making a buck from walk-ins. The bedrooms are very compact, modern and clean. The bed is a futon and accessed by one side only as the other side touches the window. the lighting system is electronic, which is nice as we have that at home too, but could be problematic if unfamiliar with this system. The bathroom basin is in the bedroom and the shower only has a fixed head, no hand shower attachment. All the hotel room doors close with a loud slam. We were awoken at 3am by several doors slamming in our corridor and drunk guests going form one room to another. The most disappointing and upsetting part of our stay was the way in which we were treated by the (very sparse) hotel staff - They were rude and obnoxious beyond belief. Do yourself a favour and book an alternative to this place - its terrible.…
I was on the roof for my birthday with some friends Saturday evening and we had an amazing time. Special thanks to the manager Arielle who helped us find our table, and made sure everything went smoothly even though was so busy up there. Usually rooftop bars have slow, impersonal service, so this was a refreshing change. We will definitely be coming back to say hi to Arielle and get another table soon.
My friend & I had a FABULOUS time at the PUBLIC! There’s so many things to rave about. Loved the modern, comfortable room, the front garden is an oasis to eat a few bites from the Whole Foods just down the street, there’s the best Pisco Sours, and the access to the gorgeous rooftop bar! Enjoyed the area very much and can’t wait to come back! Staff were all super friendly as well and appreciated the lockers to individually store our luggage between checking out and when we had to leave for our flight.
We had the most relaxing stay at Public, enjoying the impeccable design and food. An early snafu with our reservation was remedied with finesse by the wonderful manager Jessica, who deserves a raise and a promotion. We would love to stay here again in the future, with its mind-blowing views ,even for a native New Yorker.
Great experience in one of the most suggestive rooftop bar in manhattan! Great service, great wine selection and great tapas food! I would like to thank you also Auri for the amazing service supporting our requests! I will definitely come back soon!
Had the pleasure of spending 9 nights here in May/June 2022. Upon arrival very late at night from 40 hours of travel, I realised I had been put in the wrong room and the next morning this was fixed right up. I was even given the choice of looking at two different rooms for the move. The hotel is gorgeous. I don't think I read it in any reviews myself before I booked but the hotel garden has chairs and tables and was just a beautiful spot to have morning coffee in. The room itself (queen, great view) was so chic and well designed. I love the lightboxes around the bed and the ambient lighting makes these rooms super relaxing to return to after a long day on your feet in NYC. Location is convenient and you're around the corner from a wholefoods and la colombe coffee which is super handy too. Though the gym facilities are small, I still found them to be well equipped and good for nyc standards. My only fault for this place would be the lacking of a mini fridge! Being spring/early summer, being able to refrigerate fruit, drinks or leftover food would be super helpful. I could also hear people in other rooms and the hallways so if you're bothered by noise maybe reconsider somewhere with solid soundproofing. Thank you PUBLIC for a beautiful stay!…
