I was just stranded in New York for Hurricane Irene and by chance ended up at the Gracie Inn, where the staff took good care of me. During the storm, the manager and cleaning staff stayed overnight and were on duty all night to make sure the guests were comfortable and safe. Breakfast was served every morning and was more...

There were so many things wrong here it would take an hour to write them. Non-functional freezer, non-working hotel phone, broken door lock (for a few hours), non-functional intercom and clock radio. Noisy construction work done on terrace while I was there. This was due to a building code violation, as the manager told me himself. I learned later that...

The old, depressing room had one lamp with two forty watt bulbs. That was the only light source, except for the two half-burned out fluorescent tubes in the pitiful kitchen. I kept my shoes on the whole time so that my feet didn't have to touch the nasty carpet or the dirty little rug near the bed. The furniture was...

My husband and I had an enjoyable stay. We rented a studio apartment for 3 nights while in NYC visiting family. The place is an older building with small rooms. It was fairly clean and well kept. We did not spend a lot of time in the room except to sleep. We did appreciate the complimentary breakfast that was delivered...

The Gracie Inn is a small hotel b&b with a very friendly staff who are eager to please. We arrived before check in and wanted to put our bags down so that we could enjoy a day in NYC. They were very accommodating and would have put our bags in a closet, but they let us check in. We were...

This is a very cozy hotel in a relatively quiet, residential neighborhood. It's right by the river, which has a great promenade for morning walks/runs. It is also within walking distance to the green line trains and the Metropolitan museum of art. I stayed here with my wife and son in one of their "studios", which is essentially a small...

I had such a pleasant stay at Gracie Inn. The service was great! The gentleman (Javier) who helped me was so kind and patient when it came to meeting my needs. Location is great, it is safe as well as convenient for travel with buses and subway stations only steps away. Saving the best for last, the rooms. I had...

Despite much marketing about the Gracie Inn being the best B and B in NYC( Village Voice), it was well below expectation. Kirkland( costco) yogurt, huge costco muffins, and reheated croissants) were the mainstay's of the breakfast and the hallways/rugs had stains and spills that were never cleaned up nor had the rugs been vacuumed. The room we had was...

Where to start... First, the staff was friendly and let us drop our luggage off early and took it to our room. But there really wasn't anyone around for real "service." Although we (3 of us) were "upgraded" to the Penthouse from the Jr. Penthouse, the sleeping arrangements we originally booked were necessary for medical reasons. Nice effort, but should...

The exorbitant price of the average NYC hotel has to be the only real reason that this place is booked constantly, because it is a dump! Upon arriving in what should have been a clean room we found hairs in the bed, in the tub and on the bathroom wall! The sheets were wrinkled and not too small for the...

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
