We chose this hotel because of it's connection to Nicola Tesla ( in basement is small exhibition of him) but also because of the location. It is literally 5 minutes walk from Penn station where we arrived from Montreal and later continuing travelling to Niagara Falls and Chicago. Staff at the reception was very helpful as well staff checking hotel cards presentation at the elevators. The lobby had beautiful decoration with HUGE flower arrangement in the middle - amazing. We had two different rooms - first for 4 nights two doubles bedroom (we expected my goddaughter join us) and second time for 1 night double bedroom. Both rooms were very small. In the double bedroom we didn't have even chair. There was neither kettle for tea or coffee or glasses for water. This was a bit disappointing for us. We were also confused by their bill and calculation of the costs for the room as it has different price every day plus various adding. We appreciated that the hotel stored our 3 luggages for $15 for a day when we travelled to Niagara Falls.

I can understand why this hotel will not appeal to everyone as some of the rooms are quite dated, however we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay from check in to check out. We arrived early and Mohammed on reception was very helpful and gave us an amazing room with spectacular views of the Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden and the Chrysler Building, we had our resort fees already covered with Virgin and rather than paying $50 per night hotel fee (which is refundable upon checkout) we were only charged $30 and was refunded by the time we landed back in the UK. The rooms were big enough for myself, wife and 15 year old son, they were cleaned every day we were there and towels seemed to be replaced at the same time, beds were very comfortable and the pillows felt firm rather than the useless ones you get in a lot of hotels.
The hotel was in a great location for our needs and close to Penn station from where we got the Air Train and LIRR from JFK,
My wife and son used the 24hr Tick Tock diner for breakfast one morning and said they enjoyed what they had and we used the coffee shop every morning to get either a Tea of Coffee to go.
We would stay here again but would look to book a refurbished room but if not available would still stay in a room similar to what we had.

We recently stayed at the New Yorker hotel in New York, and having stayed there twice in the past were very much looking forward to it. I am a full time wheelchair user and had booked a wheelchair accessible room. We were allocated room number 3332. This room (in my opinion) should not be advertised as a wheelchair accessible room. This is factored mainly on the bathroom. The height of the sink in the bathroom is approximately 36 inches high, but the problem is the actual sink basin is embedded in a marble work surface with the basin itself being approximately 6 inches further back. This means that if you are sat in a wheelchair, trying to use the sink to either wash your face or brush your teeth it is very difficult to do. Water ends up going everywhere apart from in the sink. Also, the walk in shower is very poorly designed. There is a shower seat to sit on but it doesn't have a proper back rest so there is very little support. But the main issue with the shower is that the seat is at one end while the shower head and all the controls are on the opposite side, meaning that if you are sat on the seat you cannot access the controls. You would have to have someone else there in the shower to help you. As I have already said, this was the third time we had stayed at the New Yorker, but sadly I won't be staying there again for fear of getting allocated the same room, nor would I feel comfortable about recommending the hotel to other wheelchair users. I must add that the hotel (apart from room 3332) is great and the staff very friendly and very helpful.

If there is one review you read, let it be this one! I personally will not stay here again. The hotel is not worth the price they charge, and they nickel and dime you. I stayed here for four nights and was not impressed given the amount I paid. The hotel lobby was nice, but that was where it started and ended. Our room was in desperate need of updating. The TV was probably older than I am, and the bathroom was peeling and cracking down the walls. I felt like I was in a Motel 6 bathroom. The room doesn’t even come with a fridge or a microwave for any leftover food you may have. However, you can pay a flat fee of $30 for a fridge to be brought up to your room. We did, but when I say you can maybe fit two styrofoam boxes in it, that’s it. And you can’t get a microwave to reheat your food, so what’s the point? Oh, and you can get a coffeemaker for $50 PER DAY!
Additionally, our room keys never worked. On the first day, we got to our room and the keys didn’t work, so we went all the way back down and they remade our keys, telling us to “keep them away from other metal and stuff.” I don’t remember doing that, but maybe I did by accident. The next day, I made a conscious effort to ensure the room key stayed in its own pocket and never touched anything else or was even near anything else. We got back to the hotel, and neither room key worked. We went back down, and again, they remade the keys and told us the same thing. This happened every time we returned to the hotel. By day three of five, we ended up not even bothering to go up to our room and instead just went to the front desk each time we returned to have our keys remade.
After our stay, when we went to check out, we discovered a $30 per day “Facility Fee,” plus tax, which supposedly covers the internet, gym, business center, and calls from the room. What, may I ask, did I pay for when I first made the reservation? On what planet does the room charge not give you access to the hotel amenities? Isn’t that what I’m paying for? If that fee went toward upgrading their room key system, I might understand!
Anyway, I could have paid the same amount or maybe a little more for a much nicer hotel. So if you’ve read this far in my review, my advice to you is to go somewhere else!

Arrived at 4pm no queue so checked in straight away. No issues. Hotel lobby nice. Went up to 19th floor came out of lift and the corridors not welcoming at all. Room was small but didn’t bother us it was ok. View was of an office block. The room did look tatty , paint flaking off walls and ceiling , marks on the walls and doors , the carpet had seen better days and looked grubby. But the bedding was clean. Bed was ok but pillows size of a cushion not comfortable. There was a safe , hairdryer, iron & ironing board. Bathroom door would not close too big for the frame (sometimes doors swell maybe I don’t know , there was no extractor fan )so couldn’t breath after a shower but luckily you can open the bedroom window a little , tiled floor looked grubby in corners and by the door frame. Bathroom suite was clean. Nowhere to put toiletries there is a glass shelf above the sink but not wide enough for toiletry bag and I would not want to put much on a glass shelf anyway. Turned shower on and it spurted out of the top pipe over towards the sink and toilet until it was turned fully on, pressure good and hot water straight away. Bath tap ran a little continuously not able to turn it off. You don’t get much sleep unless you are a really heavy sleeper because of the traffic noice , beeping and some bikes and cars playing really loud music. All through the night. Then the bin men very very noisy early on. Luckily we didn’t have noisy neighbours because you could hear everything in the corridor. There is security on the lifts so we just always had our key card in hand to show them and they were always pleasant no issues. $5 charge per item for them to hold suitcases and bags. We did not use the tick tock diner or the restaurants so can’t comment. When you leave the hotel straight away it’s chaotic and busy . Lots of homeless and druggies on the street not nice at all. Some were play fighting but really punching each other hard 1 of them was sitting and grabbed my shopping bag then she left go I don’t think she was going to try and take it she just thought it would be funny I do think they were either high or drunk. We went across to McDonald’s for breakfast and they come in asking for money and food. The 7-11 shops on that street they stand there open the door for you with a cup in hand wanting money. We did speak to a bar tender who said a meth clinic had opened up on the street and that’s where they go for free meth so that made sense as to why they are there. Our first trip to New York a few years ago was down on 1st ave with brilliant views of New York sky line but we thought we were out of the way and wanted to be closer to the centre but it was much better being out the way. That first trip was amazing and we did not get that this time round. I don’t know how my experience was so so different to the other reviews I would not return to this hotel

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL it is barely a 2 star hotel let alone the 4 star that it claims. The rooms are small, Ill equip (not so much as coffee making facilities) and to say they were clean would be a joke. In fact after speaking to the night manager (who thinks the hotel needs to be closed for a 2 year renovation) the room still wasn't cleaned properly with hairs in the bath tub and months of dust and grimes accumulated in various places (picture attached is the light fitting above the mirror in the bathroom). On top of this they charge (but do not tell you about) a $35 nightly fee for "facilities" utter joke for this grimy and dated "hotel" as the only thing they provide is WiFi. The only positive from this stay is the location.

A well located hotel in midtown, just steps away from Penn Station - a main station on the metro line and also the LIRR (with further connection to the JFK AirTrain). The hotel rooms are clean and the beds and pillows very comfortable. The connecting 24 hour TickTok diner was helpful when battling jet lag and those super early morning starts. The security guards check all guests entering have room cards to ensure only registered guests can access rooms. Housekeeping were very friendly and always offering fresh towels even if we didn’t want our room serviced. We had booked two rooms, and one ended up being a 2 x room, 2 x bathroom suite with a balcony and fab views.

I really enjoyed my stay at the New Yorker. I arrived at the hotel in the morning after flying into JFK on a redeye. The hotel was super convenient to reach from JFK. I rode the JFK AirTrain to the Jamaica Queens train station (cost = $8.50) and then transferred to one of the many Long Island Railroad trains to Penn Station ($7 because it was during peak hours). The hotel is just a block away from Penn Station. Since I arrived before my room was ready, Mohammed, the front desk agent, did a pre-check-in. I had signed up for a room upgrade, and Mohammed set me up in a beautiful corner room. He called me once the room was ready. I was able to freshen up in the hotel bathroom and then store my luggage for $5 a piece while I explored the city. The room and bathroom were pretty small, but that's standard for NYC hotel rooms. The queen bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds that I've ever slept on and I loved that I didn't have to remake the bed to make the sheets long enough to sleep with, like you have to do sometimes.
You really can't beat the location of the hotel. It was about a 10-15 walk to the theater district and there were always plenty of people around, so I never felt unsafe walking around. It's also close to so many restaurants and stores.
If you want to see shows, this is the perfect hotel to stay at. It has a lot of historic charm, friendly employees and is in a wonderful location.

We were originally visiting NYC for a gig at Maddison Square Garden (which got cancelled) and this hotel was perfectly placed for that. It was also only ÂŁ110 a night in January which compared to most other hotels in the city was a bargain. Staff on check in were very friendly and the hotel areas were very clean. Our room, 2207, was a standard queen room with a view down to the Hudson. It was an ok size and basic but had a comfy bed and a hot powerful shower which was basically all we needed for our short 3 night stay. There was quite a few coat hangers for clothes and many drawers. There were lots of plugs in the room as well as USB slots. There was a small safe and an iron and ironing board in the cupboard. There were plenty of towels in the bathroom with shampoo, soap and shower gel. The bathroom was small with no shelf so no space to put your toothbrush etc. The shower curtain worked but my husband is tall so water escaped around the curtain which caused the bathroom floor to be soaking wet after a shower. There was a good hairdryer in the bathroom which could be plugged in anywhere. The Tok Tok diner on site was extremely useful being 24/7 and was excellent for any meal. The location of the hotel is excellent and easy to get to many places on foot in 20 minutes and it is right by the subway and the train station so easy to get around the whole city and out to other States. The reason for the 3 stars is that being an iconic hotel in NYC, I expected more. The rooms were quite dated and needed refreshing; although I imagine they would then charge more per night. The lack of shelving in the bathroom wasn't great. A lot of cold came in the windows so we had to have the heating on quite high to counteract it. Being charged $5 per bag no matter what the size to store luggage was a rip off, although I can't remember if other hotels we have stayed at in NYC did the same. If you are looking at visiting NYC for your first time, I would find somewhere else, but for a short break it was ok.
