Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel New York City Chelsea garners appreciation for its prime location and overall cleanliness, with many guests finding it convenient for city exploration. However, reviewers frequently note the compact size and dated feel of the rooms, a sentiment echoed in the atmosphere of the hotel. While the cleanliness and maintenance of the facilities are highlights, amenities such as pools and fridges are either absent or not as advertised. Service experiences vary, with staff commended for their friendliness but critiqued on elevator and room service efficiency. Opinions on value are divided, with some guests questioning the cost relative to room quality and unexpected charges.

What a find! This was my first visit to New York and I wasn’t sure I picked a hotel in the right location or if it was a good hotel or anything of the sort. I was extremely nervous booking this property because of some of the reviews but I ended up pleasantly surprised! The hotel is a quick walk from Penn Station and I found the location fantastic for everything I wanted to do during my time in New York. I came in for a concert and was able to walk to and from Madison Square Garden with zero issues. It was also a relatively easy walk to Times Square and to multiple subway stops. The room was clean, well-kept, and modern. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shades kept the room nice and dark. Loved that my room had a bathtub! There are only a few rooms on each floor, and so you’re never truly far from the elevator. My room was immediately next to the elevator shaft and there was noise from the elevators as a result. However, I never found it to be disturbing, and it never woke me up or prevented me from sleeping. It was just sort of background noise — same with the city noise. I was on the 23rd floor and still heard city noise, but it didn’t bother me! I ordered desserts via room service and breakfast via room service as well. Everything was fantastic! They even honored my Diamond F&B daily credit without issues — I’ve had to “remind” hotels of it in the past, so that was a nice surprise! My flight got pushed back to a late afternoon flight and the front desk happily honored my request for a late checkout (1PM) even though I called the morning of checkout asking for it. For my needs, this hotel was PRRFECT. Thanks again!

Great place to stay which is away from the main hustle and bustle but with easy access to everywhere. Staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them, little shout out to housekeeping and maintenance who were lovely and went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. Rooms were spotless and lovely white fluffy towels provided. Bonus of having fridge in the room and really quiet rooms which was perfect for us. Check in was effortless and a nice touch of a freshly baked cookie and a bottle of water each. Would not hesitate to return here if ever in New York again. Ps it’s a 15 minute walk to Liberty Bagels and this place is well worth a visit!

I picked this hotel on the location & it’s a good one! You are close to everything you need & a subway stop is just minutes away. Rooms like most of New York aren’t massive but they were good enough! The bathrooms were lovely though! Reception staff were great only thing I don’t understand about these chains is the large deposits but that’s all too common now it seems…

Trying to keep in mind that it IS NYC so of course things are expensive. I paid over $240 for one night. My room was very small but clean, comfortable and quiet. I paid extra for an Empire State Bldg view but didn't get it. It was snowing anyway so I told myself it didn't matter. As a Diamond member, I received a credit of $18 for breakfast but even the basic Hilton buffet (which is free is most locations) was $25. Ala carte is available but it, too, is expensive. $18 for 3 pancakes with a couple of strawberries on top. Parking is available a short walk from the hotel (at Icon). It is a valet only service and, with tax, cost another $60. The front desk was busy but pleasant. My complaint, like so many others have already mentioned, is with the elevators. They are slow - and the lines are long. I would have been okay going up and down 26 flights of stairs but my friend wasn't so inclined.

We stayed for 6 nights over the Christmas period. The rooms aren't huge but exactly what I'd expect for NYC - we had room for unpacking large suitcases and then storing those. The rooms are clean and well looked after by the maids service. The location is excellent, very close to Macys and well connected to all parts of the city, an easy walk to Bryant Park, Times Square etc. Only negatives I'd cite are the shower temperature was a little difficult to deal with and the lifts are a bit slow but not impossible to deal with.

Low key hotel with bad customer service . Not complying to what has been promised the day before. Had two consecutive stays and asked twice to keep the same room before checking in upon call’g front desk and at check in . On the day, I asked politely to to as told and my claim was denied because the hotel is sold out …. Still room available in the same category …. And we do have to switch rooms . Nice for a confortable stay . Never again !

Lets start with the negative.. The shower does need to be updated our showerhead was old and the water was just going everywhere. The rooms are small BUT you know when you visit NYC you are on the go all the time trying to see everything! So the room being small did not really bother me because the PLUS is that you are close to many main attractions in the city . The rooms were clean and unlike the negative reviews I read (before booking this hotel) Every staff member I spoke with were all nice and professional!!

I stay at this hotel 5 to 10 times a year when in the city on business. Reading some of the other reviews, I'm somewhat baffled as I've not experienced many of the issues mentioned. I've also stayed in quite a few other hotels both in this area and around the city in my years of regular travel to the city. *Waiting for an elevator is a normal occurrence in a hotel this size - I've never waited for more than 3 to 5 minutes at this hotel, and that's just during peak times. Also, I've never had to go down to the basement go back up (as one review said). If the elevator is heading down and you board it, then yes, it will go down first and then back up, just as any elevator would. *Wear and Tear - Yes this facility has seen some use and everything isn't pristine new. However, any functional issues I've experienced have been quickly met by the staff with a good attitude and never have I seen any mold issues in the bathrooms, air units, etc... and I always look as I'm very sensitive to mold! *Beds and pillows are comfortable. I like my bed at home better, but never had an issue sleeping. *Closets - Closet space is small as NYC rooms are small and there isn't a lot of extra space, but I've never had a problem hanging up a week's worth of business clothes. *Noise - If you're not a really heavy sleeper, I recommend getting a white-noise machine for ANY HOTEL in NYC as there will always be noise from the streets, etc... . I usually do have a room that adjoins the elevator shaft, so I do hear a little noise from it (not loud) and the white noise machine will drown that out no problem (along with sirens, etc..). *Restaurant - I often eat in the restaurant simply out of convenience and it's included in my stay. It's a good, basic hotel restaurant. Staff is friendly and courteous. Food is decent. *Cleanliness - Never seen major issues with cleanliness. Yes, sometime the lobby gets trash on the floor when large groups come in or during periods of heavy foot traffic, but the staff cleans it multiple times a day (I've witnessed this). *Location - It's a relatively quiet, safe location with plenty of restaurants and subway stops all within a few blocks. I don't mind bringing my family with me to this hotel as I feel they will be safe. Overall, I will continue to be a regular guest at this hotel and find it to be a great option at a stellar price point compared to others in the area.

I stay here frequently because it is on the same street as my office. This is my last time. It is no longer worth the convenience. The bathroom had long brown hairs all over it (I’m blonde). They “cleaned” the bathroom and took all the hand towels and left two bath mats. The toilet paper holder was broken, the bathroom shelf is falling off the wall. My mini fridge was not working and when I called the front desk, the person who answered asked me “is it a mini fridge or a cooler?” I was like, excuse me? She sent someone up and miraculously my mini fridge or cooler was working when I got back. They offer me a dining credit as a Diamond Status holder, but the info provided by the hotel says room service is open until 11:00pm, but they are not. And, as others have stated, the elevators are truly terrible. They have no dedicated staff elevator. So guests and staff have to use the same elevators. You better leave 15 minutes early. I generally choose a room on the second floor so I can just take the stairs, but beware, you can’t go up from the lobby, you have to go down to the basement and then go up.

My mother in law and I stayed there from September 26th to September 30th. We had actually booked the room till October 4th. For $500 a night, the room was a disgrace! The maid never came in the 4 nights we were there. The wallpaper was peeling on the walls. The place to hang your clothes was a joke. The restaurant had terrible service, there were 2 other parties in there that had already been served and we still waited 15 minutes and finally left because the server was standing talking to the bartender. The only positive thing was one of the bellman named Jayden. He was helpful, kind and very good at his job despite everyone else that worked there. I would never stay there again!
