i booked on Hotels.com and arrived and they are closed down!!! GO NOT BOOK WITH THEM!!! i have been fighting for two weeks with hotels.com to get my money back. they say “we can’t reach hotel to conform”. BECAISE THE PHONE IS DOSCONNECTED. SCAM ARTISTS!!!
I booked the hotel in March 2020. Then COVID hit. I tried to get reimbursed for our May 2020 trip. Hotels.com said call the hotel, no answer. All hotels.com did was give me a coupon to use at a later date ONLY AT THIS HOTEL. Made a reservation for February 2021. Called the hotel on January 30th and their phone is disconnected. Hotels.com is saying that they were able to confirm my confirmation and therefore they did not cancel it. I’m still home and my reservation began today. Hotels.com said the hotel has to reimburse me. But their phone is disconnected, webpage is not loading and their social media preaches has not been active since September 2020. Don’t lose out like me
We loved the location and the staff. Room was not that great. The coffee bar is a great place to hang out. I love dogs but was a bit taken aback by how many were in the lobby during peak times. Definitely great for a place accepting pets.
Extremely friendly and welcoming staff, very much enjoyed that! However bathroom was in a pretty bad shape with old curtain that you dont want to touch. Airco hasnt been cleaned in a while as you can smell it. Some parts of the room havent been cleaned properly eg greezy handles and window. On the good side - its a convenient place to stay for a business trip. Also free donuts in the morning help ;)
Stayed for 4 night on a breezy cold February weekend. Stayed in room 218 facing the street. View at the Empire State Building and certainly could soak up life n sounds of the city (not a room for light sleepers). Liked the decor and layout of the room. It was just me and more than enough room for a solo traveller. Good shower, good service. Location great easy for both midtown and downtown. West Village and Greenwich village are an easy walk away but plenty of restaurants bars, and diners near by. Subway 1 block away easy to get round the city and to JFK. Highly recommend for LGBT traveller safe late night neighbourhood lots of gay bars within walking distance including stonewall on Christopher Street. Hell kitchen quick subway ride or walking Negatives: -Room heating control. It was freezing the first night then found the controller which was awkward to use at times. My room went from cold to super hot without finding a happy medium -Bathroom door (there isn't one)-even as a solo traveller wasn't feeling having to do a number two that wide open especially when whole of 8th Avenue could see direct into the bathroom. -Also one night my swipe card didn't work main door shuts after 11 and had to waive for 10 mins to attract the night desk guy. -there was an annoying noise coming from the bathroom a couple of nights Other than that for the price I paid would defo use the Gem Hotel next time in NYC…
