Tale of 2 halves. We stayed for 10 nights over the holidays. Down side are the staff and the house keeping. Staff are rude and uninterested. Talking to themselves rather than guests. When we were checking out, having just paid $1700, the staff member was too busy talking to his colleague. Housekeeping was a joke. You almost had to beg for new towels. When the room was cleaned, it was anything but clean. The room was tiny but we managed. Bathroom good size and shower hot and powerful. If the staff showed some form of interest and housekeeping made an attempt to clean properly, this could be a good hotel. We paid $170 per night..i certainly would not pay more. Ideal location but hotel as zero decent facilities. No food and bar shuts whenever staff feel like it. There are plenty of deli's nearby. We will be sending a formal complain to IHG as the service was that bad. Completely impersonal and it was as if guests were an inconvenience to the staff.

As an IHG Spire Ambassador member for many years, I travel extensively and appreciate it when I encounter a dedicated service team. In the case of the voco Times Square, I had the opportunity to meet Nicole Hendrix (General Manager) and she insured that my stay was superb from checkin to checkout. The staff was helpful in pointing out places of interest and adhered to stringent Covid protocols. Thank you Nicole and your team at the voco Times Square !

The hotel and rooms recently completed a major refurbishment; new everything, The size of the rooms are on par for the pricing..,small. Other than the bed, there is only one desk chair as an alternative, For a solo traveler, the size of the room is fine. For a longer stay, it may become a challenge for 2 occupants. A Keurig coffee maker awaits you for early mornings. Other than that, the rooms have mainly what you need but are basic. No mini fridge, no closet (just hooks on wall and open storage). The AC and heat is controlled by you, plus you can use either year round. Apotheke products, supplied by a local Brooklyn company, are provided. However, the one disappointing over site is the missing hair dyer. This is an IHG property in NYC and with the cost of the room, a hair dryer should be included. Even Super 8’s provide one. Wifi worked well, TV has adequate channels, beds/pillows are comfy and AC works. The bar area is bright and fresh. Check in area is small. 10 minute walk to Penn Station. Great place to stay for Broadway or events at MSG.

Room Tip: I stayed on the 3rd floor facing 36th. Most outdoor sounds are muted; just general city noises.

This hotel is recently rebranded a Voco hotel. We were worried when we saw reviews about the ongoing renovation, but when we arrived we learned that the renovation was already completed. The lobby and bar/lounge area is brand new. The room looks nice, and the decors have a modernism vibe. They also replaced the carpets with wooden floors during the renovation, making the rooms much friendlier to people with allergies. The walls are a bit thin, and we can hear people in the hallway. However, the hotel was really quite at night, so noise wasn’t an issue for us. The location is another plus: it is in walking distance to NY Penn station, K-town, times square, etc. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay! This hotel is truly a hidden gem in the heart of manhattan.

I stayed an extra couple of nights in New York, tagged into the front of a business trip. I wanted to stay in the heart of Manhattan, and a rate of $125+tax showed up on the Hilton website for this Doubletree. The hotel is described as Times Square South. Not technically wrong as it is south of Times Square, but it is far closer to Penn Station that Times Square....its also slightly off the beaten track, being on 36th St West, next to a warehouse that is home to a number of the street vending carts you see all over Manhattan. Check in was quick and efficient...the same cannot be said for the elevators, which were slow and small - waiting on a high floor to a lift was not fun. The room was tiny - two doubles was too much for the size of the room - a king or single queen would have worked better - but hotels have to cater for all I guess...but if I'd have had a cat with me, it would be have impossible to swing it. There was next to no storage space, and whilst there was an ironing board, I cannot work out for the life of me where I would have put it if I'd have had to erect it. That said, the bed I chose to sleep in was comfortable - two nights and two quality sleeps is what was needed. The bathroom did not contain a bath - not ideal as the shower was not great, and leaked all over the bathroom. I complained after the first night, but it did it again on my second morning. Towels were of average quality. Breakfast was included as Honors Diamond - strictly speaking at a Doubletree the free breakfast is continental only, and you pay to upgrade. One day they charged me, then other they did not. The buffet was small but OK - hot omelettes were cooked to order and tasty, but conversely, the buffet also housed the worlds slowest toaster...seriously, I should not have to put my bread through 4 times to get it to go brown. The staff I met were all friendly, and I was not in the hotel that much - and at $125 I guess I cannot complain about the price - for what it was, it did the job, and its tough to get a mid-town hotel for that price. The price probably reflects that its not really Times Square, and that its next to a food cart warehouse - but it was fine for me on this trip.
