My husband and me stayed at the Standard East Village in August 2012 for a week during our honeymoon. The hotel was just wow. I am so glad we chose it: perfect location if you want to explore the EastVillage, SoHo, and experience a relaxed hipster side of Manhattan. Loved the layed back athmosphere and beautiful design of the hotel,... More

All that needs to be said about the Standard in East Village - is fantastic bed, great location and stunning views! What more do you need in New York? The staff were lovely and friendly and there was no noise from the lobby refurb going on. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the room was well laid out though pretty... More

I have stayed here regularly about once a month since May and have noticed that not only have the prices increased, but the condition has gone down of the room. For example, the latest stay was the worst with small bugs coming out of the water pipe. Evidently that happens a lot so they said and transferred me to another... More

This was our third -- or was it fourth?-- time at The Standard East Village. As another reviewer mentioned, the rooms are small, but that doesn't matter. What does is the location, the staff, and the simple, uncluttered design which is very appealing in a city overflowing with stimuli. With the lobby under construction, the hotel offers a continental breakfast... More

The Standard, East Village is in a great location. You can walk to everything, Soho, Canal Street and Union Square. I stayed here for business and found the hotel to be good overall. I was told it is a new property for The Standard chain. They have not yet put there stamp on the property. The room was a good... More

Looking at the other ‘traveller photos’ of this hotel there are clearly plenty of more luxurious rooms than the one I stayed in. I imagine though you get what you pay for, and for a lower rate I still got a pleasant room with a ridiculously comfy bed and all the nice little design touches you’d expect from a Standard... More

This is a great hotel. Our room was nice and quiet, good view downtown and with a huge, comfortable bed. The staff were very friendly and thoroughly helpful. The location is cracking, with some great breakfast and other dining options in the surrounding neighbourhoods. Would recommend Momofuku Ssam Bar and Peasant for dinner. For breakfast try Clinton St. Baking and... More

I liked this place. It is in a great location at Cooper Square, has a great little garden, a nice bar (although some decent soft drinks and mixers would be a nice addition) and some really helpful people working there. I had a room on the 14th floor, so great views, lots of light and all very comfortable. The refrigerator... More

I stayed here with my 2-year old daughter for four nights in July and had an excellent time. A couple factors informed my view of the hotel: I graduated from NYU in the 90s and lived in the Greenwich Village/Union Square area until 2009. I am overjoyed to have this hotel in the neighborhood. As a former New Yorker, I... More

I stayed here both in 2011 (when it was still the Cooper Square hotel) and in 2012 (after it changed to the Standard). Overall, the hotel retains the high quality and service that I appreciate. However, I do have to say that the hotel has become slightly less personal and the feeling you get is less cozy. The hotel definitely... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located off Cooper Square in one of New York's most vibrant, artistic neighborhoods, The Standard, East Village is cozy, charming, and eccentric in equal measure-very much in the spirit of its surroundings. You enter the 21-story tower through an original tenement-style building before ascending to unparalleled views of Manhattan. There's a quiet, calm garden tucked away at street level, Michelin-starred chef John Fraser's widely acclaimed Narcissa, and the bustling, street-side Café Standard, which hums from morning until late night. ... more   less
