Travelers' Choice
Located off Cooper Square in one of New York’s most vibrant, artistic neighborhoods, The Standard, East Village is cozy, charming, and eccentric in equal measure—very much in the spirit of its surroundings. You enter the 21-story tower through an original tenement-style building before ascending to unparalleled views of Manhattan. There’s a quiet, calm garden tucked away at street level, the bustling, all-day street-side Café Standard with an indoor mushroom farm, and NO BAR, an inclusive bar open for weekend drinks, DJs, special events and more.

    Amazing hotel, but pricey!
The Standard is an amazing hotel with an amazing location, amazing views, and an amazing staff. Right in the heart of the East Village surrounded by quality restaurants, it would be hard not to stay here again and again and again.

    EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE, EXTRAORDINARY HOTEL
Fabulous home away from home! Danny and his warm and friendly team ensure your every need is met! These people are seriously awesome and fun and you will love them!! We love eating our meals in the treed courtyard or in the lovely restaurant where you can sit inside or out. The menu is varied, the food delicious and well priced and the atmosphere is cozy and warm. The hotel has done a great job keeping the hotel spic and span, hand sanitizers aplenty and proof of vaccination is required to eat in the restaurants. The location and proximity to NYU is an absolute bonus. We moved our daughter into her dorm in September and literally rolled her bags from the hotel. The hotel nicely stored her extra luggage until move in so her room was not cluttered! The hotel rooms are bright, the pillows and beds extra comfortable and we love the well stocked frig in the room! We also enjoyed using the gym across the street and picked up free passes at the front desk. We will continue to stay at the Standard and are looking forward to returning to NYC for Parent’s Wkd. Book now! You will not be disappointed!!
Hi, Thank you for your kind words. We are happy to hear you had a great experience at the hotel and its restaurants. Danny & his team sends a special thank you. We wish your daughter continued success on her journey and look forward to accommodating you & your family again.

Great location, great service, great amenities
I was really happy with the hotel. The location can't be beat - it is in an interesting neighborhood with lots of great restaurants nearby. The hotel is charming and the staff friendly and efficient. I love the floor to ceiling windows in the room, which filled the room with light (another benefit of this neighborhood is that the surrounding buildings are lower than in midtown, allowing light into the room). I particularly appreciated the amenities, most specifically the large towels (bath sheets rather than standard-sized bath towels) and a full-sized and powerful hairdryer. The shower was also huge. The only criticism I have is that there were no drawers in my room, so I was not able to fully unpack my suitcase.
Hi SeetPea, We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. The East Village is a very dynamic neighborhood with plenty restaurants, boutiques, bars and thrift shops abounding. Bar and Restaurants all over the city have taken full advantage of using city sidewalks and streets as their own, creating special scenes designed for all New Yorker’s pleasure. All our closets come with two drawers; sorry we did not get to show you during this stay. Next time, feel free to ask us – We would love to show you different rooms which may have more storage space. We love to accommodate these kinds of requests whenever possible. We look forward to seeing you again! Best, Franck Hermann. Director, Front Office

They advertise allergy free rooms but “ ran out” of foam pillows and bedding. These reservations were made well in advance and I even checked in the day before and reminded them. We had to find another hotel at 9pm. We were only in the room 10 minutes but were charged for four waters and and a Diet Coke from the minibar…which we did not use. The manager was friendly and professional but the front desk person was not.

I had a room at the 15th floor with an amazing view. The hotel has a great location and is located conveniently close to many good places to go out to dine and experience the city. The cafe served nice drinks in the evening and a good breakfast in the morning. Staff was also friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great stay!

This hotel tries to be hip like the W but fails miserably. The complete lack of service oriented employees confirms that management doesn't understand the hospitality business. The incompetence begins at the front desk. You usually have to stand there quite awhile until someone shows up. Upon checking out I chose the email option and confirmed my email address. No folio from my stay but plenty of "The Standard" spam email. The service in the cafe was even worse. I usually head out for dinner but arrived late as I had to drive into Manhattan. I went into the cafe and sat at the center of the bar. There were a few table of people and 3-4 others at the bar. After an eternity of no service, the bartender was chit/chatting with 3 servers at the end, I stood up walked to the end and grabbed a menu myself. I expected them to then start doing their jobs but no, I had plenty of time to determine my entire meal selection. The flatbread was mediocre and I don't think the chef knows what "flatbread" means. The Croque Monsieur was disgusting with cold sauce. My room had a bathtub in the shower stall. Some "hip" designer probably thought that was extra cool but it makes the shower floor impossible to clean and dry properly, making the room have a strong mildew smell.

I would happily recommend The Standard to anyone. The service was spot on in every department. The food was quality in the restaurant and in the room. The bed was super comfortable but my favorite part was the full sized bathtub. After thousands of New York steps it was a real treat to soak in the tub. I can't wait to do it all again!

Having stayed at The Standard in London, had high hopes about my stay in NYC. I wish I’d read the other poor reviews, as I was in for a shock. I asked when booking for a quiet room away from the elevator. When I arrived at the front desk and checked in, the lady on the front desk disappeared for a few mins and came back with a big grin telling me she’d found me a special room. Only when I got up to the sixth floor did I find out it was exactly opposite the elevator. And when I got in the room, I realised how paper thin the walls are at this hotel, and that not only could I hear it every time to doors to the elevator opened, but I could also hear conversations of the people in the adjoining room and the footsteps and furniture scrapping in the room above. The very noisy air con mentioned in other reviews sounds like it’s in serious need of a service. At least it distracts from the continuous noise of the elevator and doors to the other rooms slamming. Unfortunately there was little sympathy from the front desk team when I went down to chat to them. I offered to upgrade and pay the difference, but they said the only other rooms available were in that same room opposite the elevator on higher floors. A guy from the office came out, shrugged and said the hotel isn’t for everyone. So I booked into the Ludlow instead, which is different class in terms of soundproofing, size of room and decor and the service level of the team. It’s not that more expensive, so I wish I’d booked there initially instead. Trying to see if I could get my money back for that first night’s stay I didn’t use, it then took three days for someone from The Standard to finally call me back, having called once a day to try and get hold of a manager to chat to (one wasn’t at the hotel when I had checked in initially on a Monday afternoon). When Kimberly finally called back she at least acknowledged they should have mentioned the noise issues when I booked, but said they didn’t think a refund was appropriate. Kimberly said I could come in and speak to their Guest Experience Manager, but sadly when I did later that afternoon it turned out to be Matt, the person I’d spoken to on the first day. His refrain is the hotel isn’t for everyone and there’s nothing they can do about the penalty for late cancellation, even where the room isn’t fit for purpose. When I asked whether there was anyone else I could speak to who would have more discretion to find a reasonable outcome, he threatened to call security and I promptly left. Whilst there’s not much they can do about the soundproofing at this stage and they’re unlikely to upgrade their air con, a shame their service level is so poor and adversarial. That seems to be a running theme in other of the reviews. Not sure if it’s poor training or an attitude higher up at the hotel, Looking through their responses to other posts, I see the customer is rarely right if the feedback isn’t positive. Hope they read some of these reviews with an open mind and see how they can improve their customer service and be more upfront about their soundproofing issues. I won’t be coming back to find out!

The Standard East Village was wonderful. The property is very well situated for the subway, shopping, and site seeing. Perfect location. I feel like the downstairs bars and restaurants were well designed. Rooms were well appointed. Only comment is that the hallways seemed dated and need an update. The staff was wonderful and warm. Matt, in particular, was always ready with a fresh water and offers to help. He was great. I will absolutely stay here again.

What a GREAT place! Highly recommended by friends in NYC in conjunction with my event on the Lower East Side. I can't recall experiencing a more energetic, efficient and friendly staff. Every employee I dealt with from the bell boy, front desk to housekeeping and cafe were amazing! extremely comfortable bed and bedding and the salad I ordered in the lovely little outdoor cafe was excellent as was my server! Thank you all for a woderful stay!
