I stayed for three nights in July, and was very satisfied with both the room, the pre-ordered continental breakfast as well as the staff and service in general. My credit card had initially been charged a little to much when I made my reservation, but everything was sorted out when I checked out (Thanks, Paige!) I will definitely consider staying... More

Stayed with my 12 yr old daughter for a week of NY sightseeing and really had a perfect time. All the staff made my daughter feel totally welcome from the word go and Matt at the front desk couldn't have been more helpful and recommended some great spots for us. The place has the feeling of a boutique hotel whilst... More

Really wonderful hotel! the location was great, the staff was wonderful and the room was fantastic! Upon check-in Paige and Michaela (spelling?) were very friendly. Paige helped us get some Kinky Boots tickets and directions on getting to the show. Ian was super polite and prompt with bringing our bags to the room. We were fortunate enough to get a... More

Loved it and could not believe how cool the neighborhood is and could not believe how great the rooms are and I loved the view from the 17th floor room. The room was cozy but fine for me, husband and 17 year old son. The bathroom was cool and spacious and super quirky/fresh. Frankly, I loved that the restaurants downstairs... More

I just returned from a one-week stay at The Standard, East Village. The hotel is incredibly hipster, with fashionable young people walking in and out at all hours. I don't quite match that crowd, but I still felt welcome. My queen room was on a corner on an upper floor. The views were absolutely incredible. From one window, I could... More

I was a little afraid to book at the Standard. After all, I'm an overweight middle-aged woman who was traveling to New York with friends and family to celebrate our 60th birthdays, and everyone knows how young and cool and hip the Standard brand is. But one of the other birthday girls on our trip had stayed there before and... More

I absolutely love the Standard hotel in East Village. It has a great restaurant, bar and hangout area. I love how funky the rooms are decorated and how well the staff treat the guests. I’ve had great interactions with all of the staff members but Shanna and the entire concierge staff stand out as being especially helpful and kind. I... More

My husband and i stayed here for a week during a recent trip to New York and really loved it. Only about 2 blocks away from the Astor Place metro (the 4, 5 and 6) and about 3 blocks from 8th Street NYU (the N, R, Q trains). The staff were so friendly and helpful, both at the front desk... More

Thought for $300 a night this would be a good hotel but was very disappointed. It was a good location to explore the East Village though Cooper Square is under construction and noisy and frenetic. Rooms are small and poorly appointed. No power point at desk for laptop etc. Furniture reminded me of college dorm/Ikea at best! Guess the cheesy... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located off Cooper Square in one of New York's most vibrant, artistic neighborhoods, The Standard, East Village is cozy, charming, and eccentric in equal measure-very much in the spirit of its surroundings. You enter the 21-story tower through an original tenement-style building before ascending to unparalleled views of Manhattan. There's a quiet, calm garden tucked away at street level, Michelin-starred chef John Fraser's widely acclaimed Narcissa, and the bustling, street-side Café Standard, which hums from morning until late night. ... more   less
