I spent one night at this hostel just this month. it was nice overall but the room was the size of a closet and it was very drab and boring. The pillows they provided were very uncomfortable. But you get what you pay for. The room and bathrooms were very clean and basic. my only problems were with the size...

We stayed for two weeks and you couldn't beat the location - fantastic. If you are in NY to see NY and all it has to offer then the Vanderbilt offers a clean room, at very good rates in a fantastic location - not for people who want to spend time in their room - tiny, but for the price...

With NY Hotel prices so high, we thought we'd give this YMCA a try. For the price, we didn't expect luxury, and indeed the rooms are small and occasionally noisy, but still slept well in the bunk bed. It is generally clean and the staff are as helpful as you'd find in New York. As a bonus there is a...

Stayed in the Y for four nights. The room was small but very comfortable, tv with remote, fridge and air conditioning which was noisey. With a set of ears plugs, with which I usually travel that sorted the noise. The room was clean and basic, the bathrooms were spotless and the staff helpful particularly the security staff. I would recommend...

My wife had surgery at Cornell medical. I wanted to stay close but the fees for lodging in Manhatten were significant. I decided to try to the YMCA. I have never stayed before and after my stay I will consider staying their again. The price was very affordable and it permitted me to stay in town vs. out of town...

This was my last resort after all other hostels in New York were full. I wish I had made it one of my first. The desk staff were very pleasant and helpful and even though we arrived really early we were able to store our bags in a secure room. The location was fantastic, just a block from the subway...

My partner and I stayed for four nights at the beginning of October. The lobby was fresh, Gym was excellent, staff were very friendly - no hidden extras, although price online doesn't include city tax. We booked a double room which gave two single bunk beds. The room was tiny, but in NYC what else would you expect for $90/night....

I didn't expect much and it met those expectations. This Y was written up as the best one in NYC, so I expected more. If this one is the BEST, I can't imagine what the rest are like. The lobby was nicely remodeled, too bad the rooms weren't. Location was not great. It was a bit off the beaten track...

If you are a traveller willing to sleep under a bridge, please, go under, but don´t give your money to them!! It will be wasted. We asked for a change and it was only for one night. the other three were there. It was in August, and for that, you have problems to book a room in other hotel, if...

Cheap, friendly, safe, with a real community spirit. $85/night for a single rm, with ample storage, AC, fridge, TV, bath towel and a daily maid service. All the rooms are bright. Lessening the cell-like effect. Bathrooms were kept spotless. Not only does the Vanderbilt have 24hr reception, they also have 24hr security, not always a given in hostels. A huge...

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
