The pictures on the website are very misleading, especially the room pictures. When I booked our room, I wanted one that was “updated”. They put us in the building that have the older rooms. Very old furniture, bed, stains on the carpet, mold in the room and on outdoor furniture on the porch. I called and told them it wasn’t the room I wanted. They then put us in one of the “updated” rooms but it really was only a slight improvement. It smelled old, bed was old as well as the furniture. Thank goodness we only booked one night, it was an awful experience.

We love this place. We can cook and don't have to eat out. It is only an hour from home, so its a fast , nice get a way. It is peaceful, and we enjoy ourselves every time we go. The staff is very friendly.

We will never stay here again. The pictures are very misleading. Although the inside of our cottage was somewhat clean, there are rusty tables haphazardly in the yard, an unsuable and unsafe dock, an old broken dresser on the porch, etc. The grounds are unkept. The canoes were filthy, the pool had old towels and garbage laying around. At no point did we see an employee cleaning or straightening up. We are not high maintenance guests. We would never recommend the Mill House Lodge. For those who have COVID concerns, no employees in the office wore masks or were taking any additional precautions.

To start, I found the ladies in the office to be friendly -- I had a conference call and the wifi at the Dogwood Lodge was finicky and needed video. They let me use the room below the main office. The price to value was rather poor. We paid $230/night for a two-bedroom with a queen and three twins (two in a bunk). The furnishings were rather worn down and the standalone twin bed flipped up if you sat at the foot of it. Moreover, it was on the opposite side of the lake from the features and office. The AC worked well but the wifi was erratic. The patios were shared with immediate neighbors as well. Looking back at their own site they do have pictures for each of the separate lodges - so I don't feel like it was inauthentic. Just beware that the levels of newness vary and depending on the room/lodge you get you might feel like you overpaid. I should've taken greater care to inspect the website and ask questions. but it was their only room left and we were eager to get out of Raleigh. The nearby Hendersonville Main St area is wonderful to visit for 3-4 hours -- as is Brevard -- about 30 minutes away. The Dupont waterfalls are pretty close to the lodge but the vast majority of popular waterfalls are anywhere from 1-2 hours west of Flat Rock, depending on traffic. We'd probably stay in Brevard next time to be closer for day-tripping for hikes and waterfall watching.

We were very excited about our stay because of the beautiful pictures on the website. The lake was as pictured, although very tiny, they do provide free canoes to use. Our room however, looked absolutely nothing like their pictures. It was so dated and had a bad smell. We were a family of four and the dining room had a table with three chairs only. The concrete patio had one old plastic chair and a junkie table with an ashtray on it. It was gross. It felt like a basement. My daughter had a shower and when she opened the shower curtain, the rod broke off and fell on her head. It was only a tension rod...not appropriate for a hotel. We told the front desk and they said they would look into it. What does that even mean? The pull out bed was the worst. You could feel absolutely every one of the metal bars. The blanket that the bed was made with, was so terribly pilled and old, it was meant for the trash, not a hotel bed. I understand by reading the hotel’s comments that they are redoing the inside of the rooms, but that should be clear when you are booking. You should know you’re either getting one of the newly renovated rooms or a room that’s old and junky. The furniture didn’t match. The chair had a terrible odor. The bedside table was a TV tray on one side and a small table that was filled with scratches and chips on the other side. This is far too much money for a low grade motel room. I would definitely not recommend this spot.
