Stayed in room 12 which is part of a duplex facing US 64. Room was basic, the advertised antiques were odd pieces and randomly placed. Entrance to room was via an e-key but the door plate was wooded only...not a securee feeling. My concern about security came into play when one evening I sought an additional key as I had left mine in the room. No identification was required to secure the replacement key. Customer service/front desk staff was replaced via a kiosk using something akin to a zoom application. Strange way to approach a customers in a lodging environment. Left a day early as I was ill but received no receipt and was charged for the last night I didn't stay. When I did check out, the kiosk attendant wanted me to scan my id via the kiosk. Especially given they didn't ask for the id when requesting the replacement key, I thought this was an unusual request, refused to provide and left. Well over 24 hours after I left I received a statement from the unit. When I reflect on security, the checkin/checkout protocols and the overall condition of the facility, I won't be returning.…
This inn was OK. There was a fridge and microwave in the room and the bed and pillows were comfortable. The towels were plush. The walls are thin and we heard our neighbors late at night and early morning throughout the stay. The A/C unit is loud and one lamp had a burned out bulb. Overall just an average place. No ice on the premises.
My two adult sons and I were in Manteo on 7/5/21 after touring the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and then coming to Roanoke Island for a performance of the Lost Colony outdoor drama. We were looking for a place to spend the night for a reasonable cost in an area where so many of the "chain" hotels were charging $200+/night. I found this little gem during my web searches, and the reviews seemed promising. The cost was more reasonable, and we decided to take a chance. We were rewarded with a great night's stay. The family-run inn let us know things would be a bit more personable during the afternoon when they reached out to me by text, inquiring as to when we would be arriving. When we replied we would be coming in after The Lost Colony show ended - around 11 pm - they let us know which room we had, where to find the key, and to let them know if we needed anything. All was as promised when we arrived, and we didn't have to waste time on check-in paperwork or anything - we went straight to our room and got a chance to get some sleep! The room itself was something of a "throwback" - which I greatly enjoyed. I'm 59 years old and have travelled the country, and it was somewhat nostalgic to have an actual metal key....and a room filled with unique (and older) furniture. It appears that each room has different furniture....ours had two double beds (and they each were different). The dresser was an antique (and fascinating)! Most happily, everything was CLEAN and everything WORKED. The room wasn't elaborate - but it had everything we needed, the beds were fantastically comfortable, and the boys both reported that they got their best night's sleep of our ten-day trip at Scarborough Inn. Many thanks to the friendly staff for a very welcoming stay, and most importantly, a very comfortable stay at about the best price we could find in the Manteo area. Next time I come to the Outer Banks, there is no doubt in my mind that we will be returning.…
Rebecca, the owner, was exceedingly friendly, gracious, and accommodating. The location is great, just make sure to use Google maps for guidance. The room was clean and the bed was comfy. Being smaller than some of the other lodging options, it was quiet and we enjoyed the personal attention. The location was fantastic. This was our first visit to OBX and found it easy to explore Roanoke Island as well and areas to the north and south. It was everything we expected and wanted for the price. Thank you, Rebecca. We can’t wait for our next visit and we are bringing our boys with us!
My wife and I stayed in unit 17. It was a private room upstairs in one of the buildings across from the main inn. The room was comfortable and charming, a real value compared to the other properties around this area. Scarborough is convenient to local restaurants and attractions, just across the bridge from Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills. We had no problem getting out and accessing all the things we wanted to do. Staff was friendly, room was very clean.
We were in room #9, which was in the main building on the 2nd floor in the last room on the end. The room was clean and looked like it had been somewhat recently renovated. It did need more towel hooks or bars by the sink (which was outside of the bathroom) and in the bathroom itself (as there was only the one on the back of the bathroom door). The king bed was very high off the floor which my boyfriend didn't like, although we found a little step stool hiding under the bed after a few days. My boyfriend also found a soda cap that wasn't ours under the bed, which was a little icky. All of the surfaces were very clean though, as well as the fridge and the bathroom. We liked that it wasn't really busy, although they were full. It was a quick drive to Nags Head and the beaches. We also found some good places in Manteo. There were at least 2 outdoor cats living there, which were scared of strangers, but we love cats so they were fine. There was plenty of space to socially distance due to the COVID-19. Everywhere we went everything was open except the museums, except for when we went down to Hatteras where a lot of restaurants were closed due to COVID-19. They didn't specify if they had a recent outbreak down there or were just scared over the increased cases in NC, but there wasn't really anywhere to eat in Hatteras due to that. If anyone has any questions about anything, feel free to ask.…
We were delighted to discover this clean, comfortable place to stay during our unexpected visit to Manteo NC. All the comforts of home at a manageable price. Conveniently located. The only drawback is that our room was upstairs, but we managed!
Came across the Scarborough Inn online while visiting the area! Enjoyed everything about our stay! The room was clean and the hospitality of the owners outstanding! Looking forward to staying there again!
We were a little worried when we pulled into the parking lot, but we were charmed with our room. The mix of old antiques in the room is just lovely. I enjoy sewing, and there was an antique sewing machine in our room that was delightful to show to our kids. Not only that, but we had booked a room with 2 doubles, and our room had an extra little single bed so the kids were each able to have their own place to sleep. This is always a treat on vacation. Although it is right on the main road through the island, we did not hear any traffic noise. We did notice that the available rooms were upstairs, and another guest had a hard time getting up the stairs. This is a family run hotel, and they work very hard to keep it running smoothly. We were impressed by the early housekeeping schedule! We returned from breakfast to a clean room. The hotel is not really close the main attractions, but there is a lovely coffee shop within walking distance, along with a restaurant and a really fun Christmas shop. All of the main attractions are a short drive away. We would stay here again!…
First time visitor to the Scarborough Inn and was very impressed! It was cute, quaint, and extremely clean. Loved the antique décor, wood floors, ambiance, and ease of parking - this small-town inn was perfect for a three-night get away. The room offered plenty of space to unpack our items - there was a large closet with lots of hangers, mini-fridge (with freezer), a coffeemaker, lots of space around the sink, and a table with two chairs. It was so convenient to everything the OBX offers. The owner was so nice and welcoming!!! Loved this place and will definitely be staying at Scarborough Inn again very soon!
