We stayed here to overnight before visiting Canyon de Chelly and Monument Valley. The hotel is in a very nice location close to Canyon de Chelly. The price is very reasonable. The staff are friendly. The room we stayed in was old, but clean. It was a cold night and we had to run the heating unit all night to... More

Pretty awesome off season stay. Priced right. Right on South Rim Drive. Staff on point. No pushy sales on anything. So many sites to see. 4 to 5 days needed to do all the trails & tours. Lodge restaurant 3 out of 5. A bit pricey but it's right on site.

Stayed here for one night close to Canyon de Chelly NP. It looks a little dejected from the outside, but the rooms are lovely and spacious but cosy, with everything you might need. Comfortable bed, coffee machine in the room, free wifi. Good value. There is a cafe/restaurant next door, though I didn't try it out. They also run tours... More

I have three criteria for the hotels I review. The first is location; second comes cleanliness; third comes aesthetics and efficiency. The Thunderbird passes the first and second with flying colors, but the third got slightly below average marks. In a place like this, to be sure, no one is going to spend much time inside a hotel room! But... More

An excellent location outside of Chinle toward Canyon de Chelly, on a side road; room was clean, quiet, updated, and pleasantly situated. No traffic noise. While there is a cafeteria on site we chose a nearby (Chinle) restaurant for dinner (also excellent). Staff at the Lodge was efficient and friendly... the usual gracious Navajo. Definitely will select this motel/hotel again.... More

This is our second year at the lodge. We have really enjoyed it. The rooms have more personality than a chain. We did miss the colorful bedspreads from last year. The new ones are bland. The rooms are clean, everything worked, and my husband loved the Keurig in our room. It is a peaceful, pleasant, reasonably priced place. We booked... More

Great accommodation at the entrance to Canyon DeChelly. Restaurant on site with good hearty food. Launching place for tours into the Canyon. Beware the VERY expensive jewelry store at the check-in desk area. Nice rooms, very clean, parking at the door.

Good size, clean room and comfortable bed with nice linen. Large TV. Bathroom is good: plenty of towels, hot water is hot. My one complaint is that there is not a fridge in the room. A microwave would be handy too as the dining options in Chinle are not very appealing.

We stayed one weeknight at the Thunderbird Lodge and really enjoyed the stay. It is the only place to stay inside Canyon de Chelly National Monument. There are other options in Chinle, AZ but this felt much more authentic. Our room was very clean and tastefully arranged. Each room has a Keurig coffee maker and 4 different k-cup choices which... Stayed at the Thunderbird Lodge in October, 2016. There aren't many options in Chinle. At the time of this review, there were only three hotels / motels in Chinle. The Thunderbird Lodge seems like a historical property. It's essentially a drive up motel. My room was spacious, rustic, and in good working order. The walls are on the thin side,... More
