The Dana on Mission Bay has garnered mixed reviews, with its scenic location earning high marks from guests who also frequently commend the hotel's cleanliness, from the spotless rooms to the well-kept grounds. While the atmosphere is often described as a blend of serenity and vibrancy, some visitors have pointed out that the hotel's dated aspects and noise levels can detract from the overall experience.
Service is generally well-received, with mentions of friendly staff, but occasional lapses in attentiveness have been noted. The value proposition of the hotel, however, has come under scrutiny, with several travelers questioning the cost relative to the quality of amenities and rooms.

Detailed Reviews
I recently stayed here for two nights. I was in San Diego to visit friends, so I did not take advantage of the amenities offered for those visiting Sea World. The resort, in general, is a little aged; the rooms are noisy--I could hear people upstairs walking around at all hours and kids running and screaming up and down the sidewalk outside.
The room was nice with a refrigerator and microwave. Firefly restaurant has a great happy hour and the food is good; highly recommend the ahi poke and the rice bowl with salmon.
There is a bike rental on the property for a reasonable $10/hr. Other things can be rented as well, but I did not pay attention to what is available. A nice path makes it easy to access the resort and surrounding area. There is a small but adequate fitness center.

We arrived at The Dana an hour before check in. They let me know my room wasn’t ready yet and did everything needed for the check in process and said they would call me when the room was ready. An hour and a half later still no call so I went back in to see if the room was ready and it was. Then they wanted me to go through the check in process again. I. Poked a room with 3 people staying but there were only 2 wash clothes in the bathroom. Since they are requiring guests to call 24 hours in advance to have rooms cleaned we just called and asked for extra wash clothes and towels to last a couple of days and they brought us 6 towels and 2 wash clothes. We called to have our room cleaned and let them know again we have 3 people and need enough wash clothes but again only 2 left. Our shower has also been difficult to turn on. I reserved the doom at a special rate but if I had to pay full price I would find another resort. We still have 2 nights to go and just hope there won’t be anymore issues.

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent experience with us. We appreciate your feedback. I am very surprised and disheartened to hear the room was not ready by our 4:00 pm check in time and that you did not receive enough towels. Management has been made aware of the issues you mentioned and the necessary steps will be taken to ensure that we are providing the best possible service and level of room quality.

The room was very uncomfortable because of the Antiquated Air Conditioning Unit which was very noisy and was putting out warm air even at the coldest level setting. Needless to say, it was a sleepless night. I did not ask to be relocated because we were only there for 2 nights. Room service was non-existence because of the pandemic and understandable. I did ask for replenishment of towels and tissue papers which were provided in a timely manner.

Overpriced and overrated! First impressions are everything. The initial staff member was somewhat rude. One thing I hate is when you book on a third party site and then the hotel treats you like you are second class. The hotel doesn’t have to allow the third party to book you, they enter into the agreement to do business with them and then wash their hands if something goes wrong. Terrible! You do business with these companies so own it or don’t use them.
The room was small, I thought I walked into a room on Hotel Circle. For the price of the room, plus resort fee, plus parking fee, it was disappointing.
The breakfast staff was great but food was just OK and the buffet is $40 but half off for guests. Not complaining about the price but the food was basic. Staff was friendly at the restaurant.
In room coffee is poor at best. Had to travel and get coffee in the morning.
Look around, there has to be better options.

I really dislike writing bad reviews but I feel like this must be said.. not a very good experience! The furnace stopped working and when I called the front desk, they said they would bring a space heater.. but then they never did. So I called back the following evening, thinking that they had just forgotten about it, no big deal, it happens right?. And they say the same thing, “we’ll bring a space heater” and then... you guessed it, they never did! I paid entirely too much money to be freezing my behind off! I called back again on the third night.... same thing happened! This makes me think they do not care about their customers. Very unfortunate as I thought this place would be pretty nice. The room was pretty dated with the green bathtub and sink, beds were not comfortable at all and they did not have good quality pillows. (According to the front desk lady, we had one of the nicest rooms that they offer) The beds/ pillows made me feel like I was sleeping at a travel lodge or super 8 motel, just with a much higher price. My room was also not very soundproofed. I felt like this resort, if you want to call it that, was old, dated, and basic. I think they need to adjust their rates due to the age and condition of the property. It was nice having easy access to renting any kind of water activities/ toys (which was a very fun activity) but I don’t think that is enough to make me come back. The food options were very limited, and expensive for basic meals. 🙁 keep looking.

This was a good hotel but not great. The location is great. However, for a hotel to charge you a daily resort fee you should get the very BEST. They still have air conditioners in the wall its not central air conditioning system. The room we stayed in was okay we had to get it re-cleaned since it was not cleaned very well when we got there. The restaurant Firefly is really good and the outdoor sitting area, patio and swimming pools were the highlights. They also wanted to charge us for parking when we first got there I don’t know why you would do that to your guest. The service was awesome that we received from the staff. Like i said it was a good stay not great but we expected great since it was listed as a resort style hotel.

An established and well maintained resort on Mission Bay great for families and couples. A 20-25 minute walk to Mission Beach, Belmont Amusement Park and the ocean, or a 5 minute drive. The facility has various rooms, the most inexpensive being second floor rooms with no balcony or patio, and the the most expensive having a somewhat private patio with a sunset view of the lawn and bay (and elevators in this newer building, none in the older two story buildings.) There are two pools, one that seemed to draw more adults near the lobby, and the tropical pool that is surrounded by hotel units that seems to attract more families; can be a little noisy if you have a room overlooking the tropical pool. The layout of the resort is old school, meaning that most of the buildings are surrounded by parking lot, motel style. Great for water sports, as the marina is right there and you can rent kayaks, peddle boats, wave runners and motor boats. The major drawback to this resort is that there is no sandy beach; the entire property is surrounded by rock so there is no bay access for swimming. There are plenty of public beach access areas nearby. Restaurant is good for breakfast and very good for dinner and reasonably priced. There is a good deli and a good fish and chips place within walking distance. Bedding was very comfortable. Website could be a bit more transparent with parking fees. Convenient to other tourist attractions in San Diego as well, but driving around Mission Bay is somewhat confusing and even with GPS you will most likely miss an exit once or twice.

Looked great on paper, but: there was sand in our beds and ants in the room; the a/c was noisy and then gurgled forever once turned off; there was no hotwater; the pool area had noisy entertainment; the people inthe room next door had a dog that barked constantly; dirty plates and silverware at the over-priced breakfast. Wewere booked for 4 nights and checked out after one. When I explained whyto the manager, she didn’t even offer an apology. If you stay here, all of the exorbitant rate you pay will goto the location, because we found nothing else of redeemable value. If you are planning on staying at Mission Bay, book the Hyatt across the street: a out the same price and ten times the value as the Dana.

If you want to know specifics about the rooms / deals the facitity offers, ASK THEM. Random people who reply to you are NOT a reliable source.
Yes they do, from what I remember it was $20, but I guess not anymore then what we're going to be spending at SeaWorld parking lot.
Correct all of our rooms are pet friendly.
