We had a wonderful time as we celebrated our 9th Anniversary at Kona Kai resort and Spa. The property was beautiful and maintained well. The staff was wonderful, courteous and helpful. All our expectations were met and then some. We stayed in a Junior Suites with Fireplace, that had a beautiful view of the marina, wonderful fresh air breezes every morning, with picture perfect night views of the yacht harbor. We will definitely be back again!!

This place is amazing the staff is super professional and friendly. Molly, Gaby, Nutsy y Marine are great people who made the family like at home. We felt welcomed and treated with loved. The restaurant just opened and the service was amazing love the view of the marine from there. This is my third time going to this beautiful property one of the best in San Diegi. At the end of shelter island is this amazing resort, that if you squint hard enough you’ll swear your in Hawaii. Rooms were clean and beautiful. Vessel the in resort restaurant served amazing food and had nightly live music, couldn’t of asked for more. The bad. The adult pool area and bar I believe is called the Paloma is an amazing setting but the bartending was extremely slow and took upwards of 45 minutes to get a drink. Jason one of the bartenders was rude and clearly doesn’t like his job very much. He was visibly perturbed when taking orders and definitely put a damper on the day. I would recommend increasing bar staff on high volume days in the future.

We love Kona Kai! Beautiful ocean and marina views! Clean rooms! Quiet!!! It feels safe for me and my family! Can't wait to comeback! Great clean pool and spa area! My family was watching stingrays in the marina side of the resort! Friendly staff everywhere! Even greeted by house keepers, and landscapers! True customer service, a lost art these days!

Loved our stay here! It looked and felt as though our room was recently renovated. We had a Bay View room facing the street. The street itself is relatively quiet, but there will be a random loud car horn or airplanes going overhead that are audible as the balcony door doesn't appear to be double paned. The air conditioner is loud though and sounds like an old VW Beetle starting up. I sleep with earplugs in, so I heard nothing and slept like a rock pretty much every night. All the staff we spoke with, even just in passing, were very friendly and helpful. Shout out to the very cheerful bartender in the Vessel restaurant morning of Wednesday, June 22! The pools and hot tubs looked to be pretty well maintained. We ended every evening with a hot tub soak and it was amazingly relaxing. Location was pretty good as well, being a 20-30 minute drive to most places we wanted to get to, including the Gaslamp District/Little Italy, Petco Park, and Coronado Beach. Only con: The toilet paper all over the property was awful—akin to sandpaper. For the sake of comparison/reference, toilet paper at the airport, Petco park, public restrooms at Balboa park were all better. In fact, their toilet paper felt luxurious next to what was provided by Kona Kai. I went and got baby wipes halfway during my stay because it was so bad. So message to management: Upgrade the TP as soon as possible to save future guests from discomfort. All in all, I'd recommend this property wholeheartedly and would stay here again ... assuming they upgrade their toilet paper above sandpaper grade.

Dear Evelyn, I am overjoyed you had a wonderful stay and can't wait to warmly welcome you back to Kona Kai. I am grateful for your taking the time to write such a detailed review of your experience, as well as providing us a Five Star rating. Would you be so kind to reach out to me directly at sostrander@sdkonakai.com to let me know the room number in which you stayed while in residence? I would like to immediately address and resolve the air-conditioner issue. Toilet Paper...I could not agree more. Our usual brand has been on back order due to the nationwide supply chain challenges facing us all. Who would have thought? This issue will be resolved by the end of this week. :-) With kind regards I look forward to warmly welcoming you back to Kona Kai soon. Sincerely, Scott Ostrander General Manager Kona Kai Resort & Spa

Total disappointment, my wife had a great mother’s day weekend there, but our father’s day weekend was not the greatest especially for the price. The room was nice but staff very disorganized, ran out of smores and we had to leave before getting our food for breakfast after waiting over an hour. Can’t say I would go back againx.

Located at the end of shelter Island, you're awakened every morning to Reveille and the Star Spangles Banner. The kid pool was busy, as was the adult bar at the pool! There's also another "adults only" pool which can also can be busy with partying adults. The rooms are spacious and clean. Tip - Do pay for parking since the spaces near the hotel although plentiful restrict parking at night

As a life long San Diegan I’m glad to say that I’ve found my new stay-cation destination. This hotel is tucked in the corner of shelter island, away from the busy entrance of the island. The hotel lobby has that fun coastal vibe and the front desk staff is friendly and helpful. They helped point us in the right direction to the beautiful pool. The grounds are peaceful and relaxing. The restaurant has some great tuna taco appetizers and really great clam chowder. We attended a luau event here and from the food to the band and dancers, everything was top notch. Special shout out to the GM Scott O for putting on a wonderful event. We can’t wait to come back.

I haven’t spent a lot of time at the Kona Kai before, but I recently went to their annual Luau. It was FANTASTIC. The food was delicious, which is incredible given the number of people. The Mac salad was on point. The vibe was great on their beach, and the entertainment was top notch. I loved the Faiva band - so good and the Polynesian dancers were out of this world. The fire dancers - whoa. They killed it. Shout out to their GM, Scott who was there. He probably had as much fun as we did. All of my friends who weren’t there thought we went to Hawaii when they saw the pictures. If you’re looking for a little Aloha spirit here in San Diego, I definitely recommend.
