Beautiful hotel with exceptional service from staff in the heart of downtown San Diego. The staff made this hotel and we ate most mornings at the grant grill. The breakfast was good and service was decent, but it was a menu sit down option not a buffet breakfast. The hotel was tastefully decorated and the rooms were super comfortable. I enjoyed learning about the history of the hotel and San Diego. The one thing the kids were a bit disappointed at was a lack of pool access (I was told there was a leisure centre nearby for an additional cost to access a pool, but that sounded like a headache tbh). For the rate I was expecting a bit more tbh, but I’m guessing that most places in the peak summer in San Diego can charge high prices. Downtown San Diego has a homelessness problem and if this puts you off don’t stay in downtown San Diego. They were mostly harmless and the hotel was very secure in getting in and out, which was a comfort as I was travelling with family. We didn’t use the valet parking at the hotel at it was excessive at $69 a night but found a tower heights car park for $15 with in and out privileges. The hotel is Less than a few minutes walk from the gas lamp quarter (we only spent 1 afternoon there due to a tropical storm and the fact it was full of sports bars and tacky restaurants). The us midway and other museums are nearby. The beaches are a short drive. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Josh at front desk and his manager for their assistance at the hotel. The concierge staff were really helpful in recommending some great restaurants and nearby tourist attractions. One of the staff members (a lady) gave me and my wife a brief tour of the hotel and its history which was nice. Given we were in San Diego at the time of a tropical storm it was nice to know we were in a concrete building that was protected from the elements!

Even in a tropical storm, this hotel was cozy & quiet. Rode out last week’s “hurricane” here and it was a lovely place to be. The staff went above and beyond (it was also my birthday) surprising us with a tour of the historic hotel and then champagne & chocolates. It was so quiet in our room even though the wind was howling and rain poured down. The only negative is the price of the food. Very expensive. But delicious.

We had a Renewable Energy Meeting and used the US Grant as our base. 18 people stayed at the hotel and we used a meeting room on site. Altogether our group spent $40,000 at the Grant. I had planned to stay three extra days in San Diego after the conference but Hurricane Hilary was forecast to hit San Diego so I chose to leave two days early for personal safety. (I was able to change my flight and departed San Diego on Thursday - the Hurricane hit San Diego on Friday.) When checking out I was informed that I was being charged an "Early Departure Fee" of one night which is several hundred dollars at the Grant. I spoke with the Hotel's Rooms Director, Josh Parkington, about this charge and he gave me the stock answer that it was "Hotel Policy." Now, I understand that hotel's need to manage their downside exposure with guests being fickle but this wasn't a capricious decision on my part - I was leaving early because a Hurricane was headed straight at the US Grant! I asked Josh Parkington to have the Hotel GM, Douglas Korn call me about this matter but as of this writing a week later I have not yet heard from Mr. Korn. I should point out I am a loyal Bonvoy customer and not just expect but deserve better treatment. My experience communicates that the Grant is all about money and not providing a Five Star experience to its guests. Leaving town early because of a Hurricane is not being fickle but a practical matter of safety. Being charged an Early Departure Fee is outrageous. The Grant claims to deliver impeccable service butthose are empty words. I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PROPERTY.

Despite the works, the hotel was enjoyable. It is somewhat grand and a little bit dated (the lift very dated) but all in all your typical US Grand hotel. My main issue is that location wise it is like in the middle of nothing. Suited my case as I was there for business, but tourists are warned.

Loved every minute of our stay at the US Grant. The people who work at the hotel are amazing. They were so friendly and constantly trying to do something for us. The concierge desk is a must visit. Lee Ann is amazing and her suggestions are fantastic. While our room didn’t have a view of the city, our accommodations were delightful. Our room was super clean and the bed was AMAZING—so comfy. I didn’t want to leave. Oh, the bath products are so nice. I need to buy them for home use too. We had drinks and snacks at the grill. Mia is another gem at the hotel. There is scaffolding on the outside of the building but that did not cause any issues for us. Love the US Grant!

SUPER LOCATION, SUPER SERVICE, SUPER QUALITY. This hotel made our entire San Diego experience great! Beautiful historic building, central location, helpful & friendly & engaging staff! We enjoyed a wonderful late night coffee to a fabulous musical duo on eve of 3/10/23- they were so very smooth & we had a delightful visit about my father being a musician in the Big Band Era. At every turn US Grant Hotel was wonderful!

What a disappointment this hotel was! The view from the suite looked like a prison- scaffolding everywhere. We were told it would cost $600 extra per night to change to a better suite without scaffolding view! We declined that $ 600 per night upgrade. It was our anniversary- and no acknowledgement or amenity was offered. This was booked by Virtuoso travel agency so we expected a level of hospitality and excellence that was not provided. Staff does not care at all about your comfort or satisfaction. We checked out one night early since we really couldn’t stand the view with curtains open. When curtains were closed, the room was a dark cave. They said they were “ fully committed “ but website showed many other rooms and suites available which were not offered to us-however, they offered to send “a drink “ to the room which we declined since my husband does not drink. There was nothing offered for our dissatisfaction or inconvenience. Customer service is terrible for any hotel but extremely disappointing for a “ luxury property”We were charged for 2 vehicles by the valet ( extra $120 for 2 nights) but only had one vehicle there. We did not get proper virtuoso and breakfast credits. Had to call guest services multiple times to straighten out the bill. Again, another disappointment at this hotel. Check your bill very carefully if you stay here but do not recommend staying here period.

Gosh, where do I start. We had a suite. Fabulous!!! The property is gorgeous. Concierge was very helpful. Walking distance to downtown. Food was scrumptious. Shoutout to Jose who served us breakfast every morning. He was helpful with giving us tips of where to go as we were there for only three days. Definitely want a return visit.

Hotel is historic but feels (and smells) stale. The rooms have been superficially touched up, but overall quality is not great. Windows look out onto a roof with trash and scaffolding (not sure this is actually very safe or secure as windows have no locks and are either painted shut to blocked on inside with wood blocks nailed into frame). The folks working here have been very nice and helpful and no complaints there. But the property itself is pretty disappointing.
