The room was ok - very noisy with weddings one night, and kids running up and down the hall yelling. The hotel has a pool which the locals come and use so there were limited to no lounge chairs available for guests staying at the hotel . People were supposed to wear wristbands to be served but there was only one day that a cursory check was done so if you were planning to stay here for the pool, you may want to pick another place. I picked the place for the location but not sure I would stay again
I loved my stay at The Lafayette! Clean, cute, great location (walkable to out door bars and restaurants), friendly staff, amazing pool, and great cocktails and poolside service (thank you Hannah!). I loved the room overlooking the pool! I felt nervous about staying at a hotelduring a pandemic let alone hanging out poolside. But The Lafayette is being so responsible about keeping the pool from getting crowded during these Covid times. I felt 100% safe! Juan and Joseph at the front desk were so helpful and were able to help me get checked into my room a little bit early (something i was not expecting on a weekend! Thank you!) The room was clean well and felt so comfortable! I wish I could have stayed more than 1 night and really cant wait to go back!
The pool was very nice and service was great but the rooms really need to be updated. It was too warm and no way to adjust the temp. We opened the window to get fresh air but the traffic outside was noisy. The bathrooms need fans and the bed was not too comfortable. The food at the cafe was tasty and the DJ at the pool was awesome!
First of all, the staff here is a 5 out of 5 without question. Everyone we encountered, from the Front Desk Manager to agents, restaurant, housekeeping, maintenance, couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. Now. hopefully, someday, the quality of the rooms themselves can match the excellence of the service. I understand that there may be a renovation on the horizon in the fall, and that would be great. But for now, the rooms are between two and three diamonds. The place is cool, rich in history, and the lobby and pool area are awesome. But honestly, the accommodations don't rate as high. furnishings are beat up, beds are not the most comfortable, bathrooms are small, and the one we had, the surface of the tub was like an ice rink, it was so slick and dangerous. Sound is an issue as well as street traffic is prevalent, along with casual noise from other rooms. Over the years, I have worked in properties similar to this, rich in history, but in dire need of a facelift. Hopefully it comes sooner than later because the location is great, and the dedicated customer service ambassadors need a property that matches their commitment to excellence.…
I’ve been going to the Lafayette Hotel and Swim club for over 25 yrs through several ownership changes and still it is one of my favorite local places with some of my best memories, definitely a 5 Star. The venue is comfortable and charming and always seems to have a great mix of locals in the know, with folks from away, enjoying the sun deck and always warm pool. The past couple of yrs have been especially enjoyable, which I attribute to Joseph, the hotel manager. For me it’s the folks running the place, how I’m greeted and how treated, that are most important. Joseph is Always welcoming, engaging, thoughtful and accommodating. His professional and friendly demeanor is definitely reflected in the staff, always a pleasant experience. Thank you and looking forward to many more great times!…
DISAPPOINTING! We made a reservation through Groupon first but the dates were wrong so we booked through the hotel directly. They said they would honor the requests we had in place, a poolside room with an accessible shower. When we checked in we were told they were completely sold out and only had one room in the second floor with stairs and no elevator! The front desk agent was completely rude and was not at all concerned that I can’t do stains with a broken hip! Rooms are outdated and dirty, the stairs have broken stucco and a safety hazard Very disappointing as we stay here often!
The Lafayette Hotel is a gem! It has history and is just a fun place to stay. It's clean, the staff is friendly and it's perfectly located for great site-seeing. I recommend getting the package with breakfast and parking. The food was delicious and it was so nice eating on the patio near the pool! We can't wait to go back!
I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel over the weekend for a family trip. Service was exceptional all around from front desk to restaurant service. I must say, Kerri was outstanding as a pool server. We were delighted to have such attentive service at the pool which is not what I'm used to at other hotels. To our pleasure, Kerri was also our dining server when we came in with the family. She was personable and made us feel so welcome. Cannot recommend enough!
First of all let me just say that we are in San Diego multiple times a year due to being huge Padres fans and also because the city is beautiful. We decided to stay at The Lafayette Hotel Swim Club and Bungalows. Am I glad we did? Absolutely. The place is just a cool looking historic hotel. They have suites as well as rooms that have nice little balconies overlooking the pool and rooms that you open the balcony and step out to the pool. They have a bar and a nice little restaurant that has outdoor dining with a nice view of the pool. Outside music is always playing plus they have a cute little general store for snacks. We originally booked a room through Groupon for a balcony to the pool room. We called the hotel after we booked through Groupon just to make sure the reservation went through and I’m glad we did because the hotel didn’t have the rooms Groupon claimed they had. We spoke with Joseph Taumua who also happened to be one of the hotel directors and let me tell you he went out of his way to fix the issue. He upgraded us and did quite a few other things to make our stay amazing. In fact we decided to stay another day because we were having so much fun. The bartender made us really good drinks. We are definitely going to be back very soon and when we do we will make sure to thank Joseph Taumua for making our decision to stay at the Lafayette Hotel again a very easy decision.…
First, the lobby and pool are nice and vintage old Hollywood. Now on to the actual accommodations. We rented a Suze Suite. It was dark, dreary and depressing. Felt like a prison. And loud as heck! The bunk bed was broken and had 2 inch thick mattresses. Also, there were no blankets on the bed when we arrived; I had to get blankets at the front desk. There was no place to sit except hard kitchen chairs or the beds. The furniture was junk. Walls were in need of paint and hole repair. You can hear every conversation through the walls, traffic noise, and poolThe bathroom had thin towels and no enough of them. There were two Keurig cups for coffee but no sugar or creamer. Desperately needs a remodel and perhaps some of it should be demolished.
