Lucky D’s is fun, comfortable, clean and safe. It has an amazing atmosphere and a perfect location. Lucky D’s Downtown San Diego Hostel is steps away from the Gaslamp District, home of San Diego’s hottest nightlife, restaurants, bars and shops. It’s close to all of the city’s attractions and the best beaches are a quick bus ride away. Lucky D’s staff are wonderful. They are knowledgeable, helpful and will make sure you have a good time. San Diego is a fantastic city and Lucky D’s is in the middle of the action. There are fun things to do every day, a party every night and plenty of free food. You’ll have so many new friends you won’t know what to do with them all.

We booked our private room through Hostelworld, who which didn’t communicate on their end to our Hostel so with us not having a room. Stefan accommodated us so amazingly. One of the best stays we could’ve had after our mix up! Soon as they realized the problem they were able to offer us just as good of an alternative. It was that much more appreciated because of the time crunch we were on to prepare and attend our concert. They were extremely accommodating and fast. We got into our rooms, got ready, made our concert that much more enjoyable with the stress avoided having to possibly change our entire plan. Hostelworld dropped the ball on this one. Stefan & I will be contacting their email to try to get me a refund on the initial deposit through their app. The entire staff was friendly and even continued accommodating us for Hostelworld’s error. Couldn’t have asked for anything better. Keep it up guys. People like you are what make these places that much more fun, enjoyable and relaxing. Thank you! SO MUCH!

Great place, helpful and accomodating staff. The rooms and common areas are cleaned daily by the staff and several volunteers. In contrast to other hostels Lucky D has several common rooms that create a social and homely feeling. Best of all, the hostel is centraly located and resonably priced.

Fist thing I noticed when checking in was that the ceiling wallpaper was coming off. The walls in our room were dirty. There was no light switch. You had to climb on-top of your bed to turn on the light every day. The tv didn't work, was stuck on channel 87 . There were no towels. The floor was covered with this resin that holds onto dirt so your feet are constantly dirty. The shower curtains are held up by zapstraps. It seems as if there's just people's old garbage left in every corner on this place. Broken lamps and old mirrors just hidden in the corners of the hostile. The walls in the hallway are covered with paintings but a few of them have fallen down since getting here and they are just covering horrible patch jobs. Day 1 someome used the shower as a toilet (poop) so there was toilet paper everywhere. Day 3 someone broke the sink. And is still broken collecting water in the broken piece for 3 days. I've been to a few different hostiles before. But I definitely won't be returning Date of stay: September 2022

Lucky D’s is a great place to stay whether you’re traveling solo or with friends, the chilled vibe and the lovey staff make this place a downtown gem. I haven’t stayed in a hostel before, so I was a bit scared to begin with, but all my worries washed away when I arrived. The environment has a young, energetic, hippie feel, with art all over the walls, easy to follow rules and bars/restaurants/beaches close by. Definitely recommend for young adults or those looking for a less quiet weekend, as it is located right next to a ton of bars so there will be some noise. Thanks for everything guys, hope to see you again! :)

Lucky Ds will make you feel lucky you stayed there because an awesome staff will anticipate everything you might want during your stay. At this enviable location a couple blocks from Petco Park, you can hear the Padres’ fans enthusiasm. There are abundant bars and restaurants and a Ralph’s grocery store in easy walking distance.

Lodging prices are crazy in San Diego during the summer -- especially on a weekend. When I'm staying by myself, I don't need a fancy room... and I love hostels because they can be fun and a great place to meet other adventurous travelers (although breakfast, which is the best place to meet people, isn't being served now at Lucky D's). My private room was on the 4th floor -- which meant hauling my luggage up three flights of steep stairs. I had booked a basic room with a fan, so I was pleased to see that it had an air conditioner. The queen size bed was very comfortable. I didn't try the TV. The whole fourth floor, which had maybe 20 rooms, shares two toilets and two showers. When I woke up on Saturday morning around 7:00, the floor was completely quiet; I had no trouble getting a shower. After I reserved my room on booking.com, the hostel emailed me thorough information about parking. Street parking near the hostel is free overnight, but there are so many restaurants etc that parking near the hostel is really difficult -- on a Friday night, at least. After 10 or 15 minutes driving around, I finally found a spot five blocks away along Market Street. There's a supermarket a couple of blocks away at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. I didn't use the hostel kitchen. The only problem in my room was the long curtains covered the air conditioner when they were closed... which would have meant leaving them open and being woken up by morning sunshine. I rigged away to use a clothes hanger to hold the bottom above the top of the air conditioner. You might want to bring some clothespins in case your room has the same problem. If you don't need a luxurious room, and you want to be in the middle of the action in downtown San Diego, this is a fun and excellent inexpensive place to stay!

Thank you so much for your thorough and honest review! It was nice to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and had a fun time getting to know other hostel guests. I apologize for the breakfast situation. We have not returned to our usual breakfast service and are only offering breakfast over the weekend and for special events. Hopefully, circumstances will allow us to start offering our famous breakfast 7 days a week soon. Also, thank you for alerting us to the curtain situation, we will take a look and see what we can do to rectify the problem. We hope to see you the next time you are in San Diego and wish you all the best on your future adventures! Cheers, David

Firstly, be mindful there is no elevator at all. We had to carry 23kg bags up 4 flights of stairs, with no help coming in or leaving the hostel. The set up in general is okay, the internet is okay too. We chose a private room and it was very small for two people with travel cases. Although the room had a fridge. We were not happy with our bed, it was very uncomfortable snd also very loud, any movement on it would wake the other person up. I assume it’s a very old mattress but I think it needs to be changed, it got really frustrating after a few nights. We did find the staff to be not that friendly. We had to carry our bags up without any help at all. This was starting off the experience on the wrong foot, particularly after having travelled a long way. They didn’t really ask us how our experience was at the hostel either, I thought they would be more accommodating and welcoming. Maybe we caught them on a bad week! Lastly, the lighting was quite poor in the rooms. We found ourselves using phone torches at night to look around the room. All things considered, it’s an okay place to stay with a good location.
