The property is beautiful inside and out. The exterior is a stone building from the 30s and the interiors are modern and new. The hotel is situated midway between the gas lamp district and the harbor (about 4 blocks). It's near a mall and across NBC, convenient if you're watching any shows. The only drawback was that there's no breakfast... More

The daily rate of $9 for the wifi, two bottles of water, yoga, blah blah blah. Unsure why they don't just add this $9 to their rate! This would avoid so much moaning and groaning from people like me. The hotel was very clean, quiet, staff was professional, loved its proximity to the Gas lamp district. Valet is $36 per... More

Even though this is on a major street downtown, the room was quiet and comfortable. The thermostat was on a sensor though, so the room did get warm while we were out. The room was clean and my only concern is the shower. There is glass that covers about half way of the shower area, (no shower door) so water... More

Front desk is very helpful and gave us lots of info on things to do and how to get to them. The lobby is nice, rooms are small but clean, beds are comfortable no matter what you may read elsewhere. Fourty two inch tv's with no HD in the rooms was annoying since the have HD in the lobby and... More

We were looking for a mid-priced hotel ($200ish a night) to stay in for the 4th of July weekend that was within walking distance of the waterfront, Gaslamp district, public transportation, and the Amtrak station. The Sophia filled the bill on all criteria. The hotel has the old world charm feel but with modern conveniences. As has been noted here... More

It didn't take me more than 10 minutes to figure out that, unfortunately I landed up in a huge gothic mess. The owner and the management can't maintain the property so it's characterized as gothic hotel .. lol. What a brilliant way, if you can't keep your kitchen or garage clean then you should call it as gothic styled kitchen... More

Pros: Centrally located one block west of Horton Plaza, located in downtown area, 10 blocks from Seaport village and many other attractions, Richard Walkers is 5 blocks away, a coffee shop, bar and restaurant located in bottom floor of building, relatively safe environment, hotel is nice and clean, lobby is good sized with plenty of seating, good amenities, trolley is... I had a great stay and will return the next time I'm in San Diego. Yes, the rooms are small but they are clean with updated decor. The hotel is within walking distance to the gaslamp district, the harbor and Seaport Village. The mini fridge and microwave is a bonus. A daily yoga class, two bottles of water and a... More

Concierge will take your bags, as you exit your transfer or taxi. What a beautiful hotel. The foyer is amazing, as you check in and the staffs are smiling. The room was big enough for two double beds and lucky for me, I played a-lot of Tetris as a child, I was able to fit 3 suitcases, 2 carry on... More
