I have been here with my family about 3 times now. The room is always clean. It’s within walking distance of so many generations food places even if it is to go for now. Sea port village is a nice local spot to go grab a drink.this place is close to a lot of activities like the Duffy boat rentals and horn blower cruises. Very low key and great every time.
The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. However the room was very small and hard to move around in and the microwave didn’t work that well. We were also surprised by a parking fee that was expensive.
Stayed at the Sofia Hotel with my wife and dog for a birthday weekend trip a few months ago. We found the hotel to be charming, the rooms to be good, and its location right downtown meant we were close to a lot of dining and nightlife options in nearby Gaslamp.
I visit San Diego frequently and have been on a boutique hotel binge lately, tried this place on a whim after reading reviews that had mentioned the walking tour, the hotel itself is a great value. It didn't disapoint, the hotel was nicely renovated, clean rooms and a friendly staff, the bonus for us is that its just a short walk to Gas Lamp or where the action and great food options are but its just out of the noisy and bar area so you can actually sleep. The walking tour is 9am on weekends, you will be taken around the area for about an hour and learn a bit of history, crazy facts and see some beautiful older buildings dating as far back as 1850. The walk itself is nice as you get a lay of the land and can pick out some diing spots to head to later. My guide was Patrisha and was a lot of fun, I really recommend this and its a fantastic added value ot your hotel stay. This hotel also offers free loaner bikes, great way to get down to Sea port village and go cruise around, if youre flying in this hotel is a cheap uber ride from the airport and does have a parking lot availible for extra if needed. Enjoy!…
Upon arrival its easy to be impressed, the hotel is modern with historic charm. We were told we got a renovated room on a high floor. Wow, we were mislead. The room was quaint but at the far side of the building closest to existing construction site of a hotel that is currently in full swing and VERY loud and can be heard from the room in the morning. (No sleeping in) You are downtown so we did expect normal traffic, but construction right next door is quite a different tradeoff. The hotel staff should have done their best to place guests away from this noise, we were place literally with our window facing it - the high floor did not matter. We stayed during the week - this may or may not be a thing on the weekend. I have a sneaking suspicion our accommodations were less prioritized because we booked through a third-party travel site, as they made note of that at check-in and seemed to treat dirext bookees a little friendlier; again, just a note. We were moved twice after our first room's toilet was broken & phone disconnroom's. We had to pack up our things to go downstairs and retrieve new keys to then move right next door 30 minutes after checking in. Later that evening, after a long day I took a shower and got ready to have a late dinner and go out for the evening to plug in the blow dryer to find the second room's outlet didn't work in the bathroom. I called the Front Desk and was told we could move rooms again or we could wait for maintenance to come in at 8 AM in the next morning. We elected to move rooms as we didn't want someone to disrupt our schedule and we had plans for the evening still - we needed an outlet without having to leave a hot curling iron on the floor. So we moved rooms, by the time everything was done we were just frustrated. Management never called to check in with us or apologize for the inconvenience of their "renovated" rooms the next day or the entire stay aside from the survey. The location of the hotel is about a 15 mins walk to the Broadway Pier, 12 mins to the Santa Fe Depot Tram to take you to the Green Line, and then about 15 mins to Little Italy and 10 mins to Gaslamp. Location is alright, but with the construction headache, lack of customer service, and many other options there are in these areas, you may be better suited to grab a deal elsewhere.…
