I found this hotel on Expedia. It was an excellent price for a 4-star hotel. The location was great as it was in walking distance of everything we wanted to do. The room was clean and nice. The staff was friendly overall.
Comfortable accommodations and friendly staff... stayed previously and will stay again! Looking forward to new Starbucks near the lobby. Valet Parking staff is also very helpful... although expensive at $40 which is to be expected.
Stayed here as part of our wedding anniversary celebration holiday. I emailed in advance to request a nice room to celebrate but never got a reply or any acknowledgment of request. The room was small and the hotel had no restaurant, no pool, no concierge and no assistance with bags on arrival. Some staff were pleasant, others not at all. Hotel is worn and dirty - I would definitely not choose to stay here again. Best thing was location but even that would not sell it to me as there are much better hotels close by. Stayed in lots of 4 and 5 star hotels in the US and this is not a patch on any of them.
Very friendly front desk staff, but mediocre rooms. I had to move once, and I almost moved a second time due to the lack of hot water. I would have, but I did not have time. I opted for a luke warm shower instead.
Our stay was very nice. No complaints. Service was not the greatest but it was not poor either. I’d stay here again. Parking and hidden fees caught me off guard. The hotel is right by the zoo, airport, balboa park. We visited it all and probably on drive a total of 40 miles
Near from every thing, the personl is gentle a so helpful, especial mention to Martha formde front Desk. the rooom was confortable and clean we use de studio room with a king bed a couch-bed veru comfortable
Very small rooms and the wifi was awful. When I checked in the room was super dusty like it hadn’t been cleaned in a while. Bed was okay but the pillows were not comfortable. We did use the conference room and that was very nice. No restaurant I the hotel but lots of places to eat nearby. Lots of construction in buildings all around the hotel that started around 6am in the mornings. Decent hotel but I wouldn’t stay there again.
As one who prefers boutique hotels, I picked The Sofia over many chain hotel options. The hotel is quaint and historic, and has a nice ambience to it. They charge a resort fee, but I would not mistake the amenities for "resort level" amenities. Two things that persons considering The Sofia should keep in mind: (1) no food/beverage options with the hotel; and (2) parking is actually a public lot adjacent to the hotel. All-in-all, I very much enjoyed my time there.
Good location just a 15 min walk from Gaslamp and 15 mins from Midway. Our room was small but it was clean and well maintained. Parked around the back in LAZ although you will find cheaper nearby. San Diego is an awesome city and Sofia was a great location from which to explore.
Ok this is the worst experience ever. I booked here to attend a convention nearby as all the better hotels were booked. But since it was over 4 stars I thought it would be ok. THIS IS A 2 star if even. 1- As traveling for work I wanted a hotel that had a restaurant bar so I could safely and conveniently grab a meal or drink. The image showed a lovely cafe this was closed down. 2- The lobby has a sad feeling, trash overflowing constantly by elevators. 3- Lobby attendants were clueless about directions as I asked for a nearby restaurant that I could walk to that would be safe. They sent me on a mile-long hike through a ghost town of closed-up businesses, urine-filed sidewalks, drugged-out crazy people, and grungy bars. Nothing any normal person would go to and this was 3PM. I told the person at the desk never to send someone, especially a woman out alone on that trail again. Wouldn't you know 2 people attending my conference were SHOT and are currently in the hospital, they were innocent bystanders in that crappy area. 4- The hallways stunk and also carried a sad and dingy feel. 5- The room was sad, mildew stains on the ac vent, mold or dirt along the top of the ceiling, weird floorplan and just overall yuck. I complained and got upgraded to a suite which was just a larger space of yuck but at least I didn't see mold however the AC rattled like the clanking of the homeless peoples shopping carts down below. 6-The bathtub looked dingy - the bedside light didn't work- the makeup light didn't work. And that's all so, just letting you know, AREA NOT SAFE, staff unaware of the dangers, rooms out dated and not well maintained. No onsite food or drink- and nowhere to go unless you get in a cab.…
