The hotel is on the border between the Gaslamp Quarter with its many restaurants and bars and the East Village. It is a very short distance from the Gaslamp stop on the trolley. It is near the water and the local area is pleasantly cool in summer. My room was a good size and nicely furnished. The only negatives were... More

Visited this hotel as part of our summer road trip and arrived late evening after a long and dreadful flight from New York, so we were not in a good frame of mind, however on arriving at the hotel we were very impressed with how lovely, clean and modern it looked. The room was very well laid out with comfy... More

Stayed over new year's. Staff were pleasant, the room's were big and nicely decorated, the wine hour was great, and I always like meeting the canine guests. The kitchen was very good and service first rate. The Solamar is in a great locations. We would stay again.

The Good.... Excellent customer service from the time you arrive. Eric and Q were very helpful. Good location. The Bad.... The Internet not working well. We even upgraded and still didn't work. Construction very loud. The pool is very nice, but also a meat market. Not very kid friendly. The pillows are really bad. I kept asking for a new... More

I chose this hotel based on a trip advisor review. Having never been there before, I needed some honest advice on a hotel. It was wonderful. The employees offered great advice on day trips and tourist suggestions and tips. The location was perfect; we could walk everywhere. The best part was the daily happy hour at the adjacent bar. Room... More

I've stayed at a number of Kimpton properties, and all have provided exceptional service. This one? Not so much. Arrived and was informed the pool was closed for a party, although guests over 21 could attend. Checked into room overlooking the pool and the music was wall shaking, I can't hear myself think loud. And I love music, and loud... More

My wife and I recently stayed at Hotel Solamar on Thursday 08/05 & Friday 08/06. Solamar is very sleek and modern with warm tones and accents. We had the pleasure of meeting Eric at the front desk. He was very professional, helpful and gave great recommendations for local restaurants. The very first thing we noticed was that Solamar was literally... More

I spent 6 nights at the Solomar while visiting San Diego for a family wedding. First of all....what a location...very easy to get to from airport, within great walking distance of the waterfront, the USS Midway, and Balboa Park/the zoo. I believe the hotel has had a recent refurbishment. It's fantastic. Beautiful large spacious rooms, lovely communal facilities, and a... More

Last weekend my friend and I were literally kicked out of another hotel in the North Park area of San Diego *cough, the Lafayette, cough* after they mistakenly had us down for a 1 night stay when we requested 2. We had no where to go and went into Hotel Solamar where even though they were totally booked, their rockstar... More

What a frustrating experience Samantha B! I am so happy to see that Q was able to find a great room for you, I know that must have been quite the win given the entire city was sold out over Comic Con. He really is the BEST and knowing he stepped in to help fix that difficult situation you were... More

I recently stayed at Hotel Solamar for two nights midweek and although our room was really nice, the best part was the rooftop pool. It's spacious, nicely appointed, and filled with cabanas and loungers. There was plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the afternoon. The pool is warm, but sort of small. I can only imagine how popular... More

It sounds like you had a really relaxing trip Mindi B! I'm thrilled to see that you loved our rooftop pool as much as we do, it truly is a wonderful space and great for a cocktail al fresco as well. I'm so happy to see you'll be back when you return to San Diego. Until next time...Shannon More
