The only reason I would give this hotel a 2 is because of the front desk staff. They were very pleasant and always attempted to correct the issue. However, my husband and I were clearly able to see there was a lack of communication between the staff members in various departments. First, they could not explain the various charges that were charged daily to my card. Never had this happen at any other Marriott so please watch your bill closely. There is a $25 daily destination fee but you will receive credit daily if you spend this amount at the bar that was never open or the Topside bar in which we couldn’t even get in the first night to use the credit. The second night we mentioned it to the bartender at the Topside who knew nothing about this credit. Spoke with one staff members who said we could use the credit for breakfast, after using it for breakfast, front desk staff said it does not apply for breakfast (she did end up crediting us for that night). Next, they need to clean this place up. The first room we had smelled like a zoo due to the “pet-friendly” policy. I specifically requested a room that was free of pets due to bad allergies and asthma. Well the room clearly smelled like an animal. Unfortunately, this hotel does not consider the population of allergy sufferers and the pets take precedence as they do not have rooms free of pets. No offense to pet lovers but we don’t want to pay for a room to smell like a dog and and see pet hair everywhere. The carpet was also stained, yet we were told they deep clean the carpet especially after animals. Clearly that’s not working and animals should not be permitted in every room for situations like myself and others that have health issues and cannot tolerate pet dander or prefer not to smell animals while vacationing. They did switch us to another room in which the smell was better but again you could smell that a pet had been in there and there was dog hair in the corners. There was also mildew on the showers and they appear to have a plumbing issue in this place due to the smell in the bathroom. The place is also situated next to a jail and county courthouse in which I do believe others stated as well as the $52/night for parking. It is situated about 20 minutes from the Gaslamp District if walking. Overall, with the lack of communication, the lack of cleanliness, and location, we would not stay here again. Mariott, for the price, you need to do better!!!!…
You might find parking for $10 less but the Hotel Republic's Valet Service allows you unlimited in/out privileges and is super convenient. Alex R, Julian and Jalylan were very professional and took good care of our car. We texted our tag# while still in our room and by the time we arrived down in the lobby our car was ready and waiting (about 10 minutes). I would recommend the valet service instead of worrying about where to self-park.
My booking included all taxes and fees but upon check-in I was asked a mandatory destination fee of 25$+tax/nt, which could be used as f&b credit on which they also ask taxes and gratuity, so in essence you always pay even more than the 25$. By the way these destination fees were never divulged on my booking, apparently because I booked early but if you book now there is still no mention about this..so be aware!. As titanium, we got upgraded from classic to deluxe room upon insistence. Breakfast for plat and above is 1 cold+1 hot item+1beverage. No coffee AND juice, pretty petty from Marriott as you can ask complimentary coffee as elite at the same outlet but not during breakfast ! Ridiculous ! They do have an open lounge but no service and not stocked with drinks. So that makes it evident that they are not concerned with health safety and mingling guests but this is clearly a cost cutting. On the positive side they offer daily housekeeping which nowadays is rare. The porter was nice and engaging.…
The two front desk ladies took such good care of us. We came on our honeymoon and they upgraded us to the 18th floor, wifi, 50$ drink credit, and much more free of charge. Wonderful location and wonderful staff.
Everyone at the front desk was friendly! Randolf angel and axel with the valet were amazing and friendly when dropping off and picking up my car! The breakfast in the morning was great and the staff were all smiling
Went just for a night to do photography at a nightclub, Ethan took good care of my car and brought it back to me in no time at all at the end of the night. Great service overall. Thank you again Ethan
For a tourist visiting San Diego you couldn't ask for a better located hotel. It is walking distance from the Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy and the waterfront including the USS Midway museum. Better still, it's all flat. Parking is super convenient - diagonally opposite the hotel is a large open-air parking lot and on-street parking that is free after 6pm and on Sundays. No need to pay for the expensive hotel car parking. The hotel is functional and modern. In the common areas of the hotel it is fresh and contemporary. The rooms themselves are in a classical-type style so despite being new the decor doesn't have the same fresh feel with a lot of dark timbers. The hotel gym is above average including free-weights which was appreciated. We used the gym each day we were here and it was sufficient for a three-night stay. There is no pool. The rooftop restaurant was pleasant but we felt quite expensive for what it is. That's no big deal with so many other options in close proximity.…
This is a great property in a nice location with easy walking distance to Little Italy and the waterfront. Enjoyed my stay here, with a well appointed room, beautiful lobby and common areas. Good dining options in walking distance. The event I was there for was well supported, with excellent meals and services. The friendly staff went above and beyond. Only thing missing was the slippers and the fluffy robe. Otherwise a great stay.
For some reason our room had two adjoining doors to neighboring rooms. I have no idea why they would design a hotel this way. On the first night we noticed that there was a worker attempting to fix a door across the hallway from us and it repeatedly slammed while he cursed at it for a couple hours. It was as if it was happening in our room even though our door was closed. Later that night the room next to us on one side had a couple having extremely loud sex until 2:30am or so. It was like listening to a porno. We had to turn on the tv just to drown it out. Then on our last night the room on the other side came back around 2am and started playing music and whistling along to it at what was probably an entirely reasonable volume for them yet it was really loud in our room while we tried to sleep. I will never ever stay in this hotel again, which is sad because the other parts of the hotel are quite nice and the folks working there are helpful and friendly. You really need to soundproof your rooms or perhaps remove some of the adjoining doors. (Room 1103)…
