If you don't need to stay inside the city, the location is perfect, right off I-15. A convenient, mostly-highway 25-minute drive will get you to downtown San Diego. The hotel is laid out like a Mexican resort, with multiple two- or three- level buildings sprawled across the large property. A dense row of trees isolates you from any noise from the street or the nearby highway, and large, mostly empty ground level parking lots surround the compound. The rooms are large, comfortable, and well maintained, half of them with a balcony facing the large swimming pool. The king size bed is comfortable, and we rarely heard our neighbours. The air conditioning/heating unit, though, is very loud, even when you lower the fan to minimum - I measured 55 dB(A) at 1m. At its default full setting, it can be loud enough to keep you up at night. Wifi connection is excellent. I got 33 mbps download and 27 mbps upload speeds, with an impressive 3ms ping; can't ask for any better than that. The bathroom is poorly designed. No matter how we aimed the showerhead, water kept dripping down the shower curtain and pooling all over the bathroom. It seems the problem has been there for a while, based on the condition of the walls near the floor. The walkways along the buildings appeared poorly maintained. When it rains, water leaks through cracks in the level above, and more alarmingly, through light fixtures, creating puddles, turning the elevated pathways into an obstacle course. Staff at the hotel is very friendly and helpful, all eager to make your stay comfortable. There are two restaurants inside the complex, a breakfast joint and a bar. The breakfast place - Asado Grill - is nice and quiet, and offers a diversified breakfast buffet from 6am to 10am. The food is good and the waitstaff is wonderful, but at $19 a person before tax and tip, it's a bit steep, especially when you can get a decent breakfast for $6 at the Jack in the Box across the street. We didn't try the in-house bar or room service. Checkout was smooth and quick, with none of the surprise charges you see in some other hotels.…
