This property always flirts between a "3" and a "4" rating for me. Historically it was closer to a "4" but the last couple years has been more of a "3". We keep coming back because of the proximity to "grandmas" house. I will say that this time, the staff was pleasant and even acknowledged us as we walked through lobby (had already checked in and had digital key on phone) which has not been the case lately. Got the typical mumbled/cold/no eye contact greeting from the girl working the next morning as we left. Room and bathroom appeared clean. Unfortunately, the closet was forgotten and was pretty dirty on the floor. In of itself not a big deal, but makes you wonder where else in the room was "forgotten". But we got a good night's sleep and showers the next am before departing. Good for a night or two when the hotel isn't your base of operations. A good solid "average" rating which if consistent, meets our needs for the property.…
I escaped to the Doubletree for a quick, safe escape from Covid confinement. I was very kindly greeted by Shaun at check in. He was super nice and very helpful in making restaurant recommendations in the area. And he made sure I enjoyed some super delicious chocolate chip cookies! The room was very clean and had a nice view of the pool. The pool area was very nice with various seating options. In the morning, I met Janelle who also worked at the check in counter. She was super friendly and also made sure I got another dose of those amazing cookies! Both Shaun and Janelle genuinely cared that I enjoyed my stay, which I sure did! I just wish I could have stayed longer and continued to enjoy both their amazing hospitality! I will definitely book a stay with them again soon!
I had to take a business trip to San Diego during this pandemic and was a bit anxious to travel. From the time I arrived to the time I left, the Doubletree Del Mar staff made me feel totally comfortable, safe and secure. I appreciate the hard work from everyone from housekeeping, the front desk and the restaurant take out staff.
I have been visiting this hotel for over 20+ years and the overall service and cleanliness of this hotel has really gone down. Let's start off with t despite the fact that we are dealing with a Pandemic the cleanliness of this hotel is the same as it was before the pandemic. We had to change rooms twice because the floor in the bathrom was not mopped, the linens were not clean and the surfaces and couches had fluid stains on them. The stay was very uncomfortable and we culd not wait to check out of this hotel. Along with this was the typical Becky's who think they can not wear a mask in the hotel which is hotel policy and also get on the elevator when there are more than three people on the elevator. The elevators at this hotel never work and I would not feel comfortable eating any food in this hotel due to their lack of cleanliness standards. They have a great marketing campaign going on but their cleanliness standards need major improvement. The bright side is the staff at the front desk are very accomodating but they are not empowered to do anything. Hilton's internet connections need major improvement and are slow and inconsistent. The other very good fact is that you are near a lot of restaurants and other coffee shops and do not have to eat at this hotel. I expect to recieve the typical not sincere response from the GM or ownership so please keep it and try to address the issues that makes your hotel a glorified Motel 6.…
Pics from their website do not do this place justice - unfortunately it's the opposite way, the pics are way better than how the rooms are in real life. Our room needed desperate refresh. The bathroom had no ventilation or windows. The toilet tank flapper did not close correctly and the water in the tank would keep running all night until you lifted the flapper oh-so-gently just so it would close properly. The drawers on the dressers are so warped that they did not stay close and would stay ajar (or maybe the floors are not flushed?). Stains in carpet and sofa. Planters had nothing but dead plants. No HBO, only basic cable. Note that wifi is slow and disconnected often - in case you are thinking about working from this hotel, this is something to be concerned about. Computers and printers in the business center are out of order. There are conveniences that are no longer offered during these COVID times: no housekeeping, no breakfast for elites and otherwise. No fridge, no microwave in room (unless you ask). Hotel is situated in a cluster of business parks. Along with the pleasure of parking among the business centers comes with a standard $15 daily parking fee. The staff is mostly lovely and helpful. You can tell that they are all trying to make the guests' stay as comfortable as possible given what they can do in these COVID times. Save for one. One evening as we came back from our outing, I stopped by the front desk to see if we could pick up supplies and ask for a late checkout. As there's no housekeeping available, this was our routine - to pick up shampoo, soap etc as needed from the front desk before we retired to our room. I waited at the front desk and didn't see anyone. Odd, as there was usually at least one person. There's no bell either for me to alert someone in the backoffice. I waited for about ten minutes, and still no one came out. I took one step towards the office in the back and said "Hello?" A man who identified himself as Jordan came out and rudely said "Ma'am please step back". I explained that I had been waiting for ten minutes and didn't see anyone, he quite abruptly cut me off and said "it has not been ten minutes". I made a joke and said "well it surely felt like it from this side". He did not say anything but just continued to stare at me. I was so startled at this point that I forgot to ask for supplies and just asked if I could get late checkout for next day. He said, "you will have to talk to someone tomorrow". Really? The parking lot looked to be less than 20% full. The exchange left a nasty taste in my mouth and sadly despite the efforts of the rest of the staff, I doubt I will come back to this property.…
