Welcome to the Inn at Sunset Cliffs located in historical Point Loma, California. We are one of only a few San Diego hotels truly located on the Pacific Ocean, just steps away from Ocean Beach, with Sea World just a few minutes drive. No other San Diego hotel offers a view as breathtaking as from our spacious terrace overlooking the Cliffs, Ocean Beach and as far as La Jolla. The Inn at Sunset Cliffs is truly one of the only San Diego beach hotels that is actually a waterfront hotel. Oceanfront suites with the sea breeze just outside your door. Sea World is just a few minutes from us! Sunset Cliffs creates scenic atmospheres all year long, with million-dollar views everyday. Being a quiet privately owned San Diego hotel, we support our locals and want to help our community. San Diego Beaches are near, being just a few blocks away from us. Experience the great San Diego surfing with an awesome location to scope where to ride for your session just a few steps away from your room. Wake up to the sounds of the waves crashing onto our property. Look out at the Pacific Ocean to see the beauty San Diego has to offer. When you feel like relaxing, our ocean view terrace allows you to view out over the horizon of the Pacific Ocean. Kick your feet up and let the waves take you away...

Hotel's Favorite
A beautiful little inn with breathtaking views. We had two bedrooms and a living room. Obviously an older motel style, but beautifully updated inside and out. The bedrooms overlooked the ocean and I loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves. My only complaint (and it is a small one) was that the shower didn't get quite hot enough. But otherwise we really enjoyed our stay.

We stayed in Room 209 for 3 nights - two bedrooms, a small bathroom, and a sitting area. The room was very clean and the space was large enough to be relaxing. The views from this hotel are amazing, and there are plenty of places to sit and watch the sunset. Parking was easy and free, with a small lot on hotel property and street parking nearby. This hotel is good for families, groups, and couples, but the noise from the swimming pool carries, so expect to hear a lot of that if you are around during pool hours. We would definitely return if vacationing in the area.

Room Tip: It gets busy during sunset! Get a seat outside early before the crowd arrives.

This place is amazing! The room was very nice. We loved having the option to book the room with a separate bedroom and kitchen like a small apartment. The location is incredible and we loved eating while watching the ocean waves which we also could hear all night long! Thank you!

The place is much smaller than it appears in the pictures. And it is not family friendly as there are no elevators, stroller ramps or kiddie pool. The rooms/suites are dated and very basic - floor is creaky, space is cramped and bath and closets are really small. The WiFi did not work the whole time we were there and while they offered to refund us some money for that, they ultimately did not. The TV did not work at first but the front desk guy fixed it for us. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy (liquor store across the street) and there are no grocery stores/restaurants at walking distance. Their backside deck which overlooks the cliffs is closed due to water damage. They charge a premium for the place (we paid $300+ per night), which is totally not worth what they offer. The price is supposedly for location and views, but with the deck closed, and grocery stores/restaurants not close by, that’s not a good deal. On the plus side, the place was very clean and the staff was courteous and responsive. They have a poolside area with tables and chairs that has good views if you want to sit outside and snack/enjoy the sun. To conclude, this is a fine place to crash with friends if you are looking to spend limited time indoors, but not a place to stay with family.

this Inn has great location along the cliffs and is beautiful and special. It is lovely and small with a nice pool and beautiful comfortable outdoor seating overlooking the ocean. The staff is lovely and helpful.
We had one of the two ocean facing rooms, and that was a treat.
However, the room is quite small for two people with barely any storage, so it gets tight for more than a couple of nights. The “couch” in the room isn’t even a love seat, it’s a chair that takes up a huge amount of space and seats one. There is only one nightstand and barely any surfaces in either the bedroom or bath. The bed is comfortable but VERY high.
The small bathroom has a nice shower with two heads but if you have bad knees beware the toilet is very low.

The Pros: Great location as it is close to a lot, plus they offer a golf cart to the Beach. They have a small pool and a patio area to view the ocean cliffs. The rooms are nice and the kitchen (full) was well stocked with about everything you would need. The office staff are great and very friendly. If you need any extra items they are very accommodating. Very short walk to the Cliff overlook where we saw at least 2 Weddings in 3 days. You can also see and hear the fireworks from Sea World every night. The rooms and kitchen were clean and a family of 6 could easily be happy with the accommodations.
The Cons: No elevator for elderly or handicapped. (I traveled with my mother who was in a wheelchair with limited walking. The stairs were very hard for her and they did not have a ground floor room available for us even though I asked for one early in my reservation). One bathroom for 4 adults and no laundry on site. The golf cart was not available during our stay as it only ran Friday, Saturday and Sunday and on the Friday we would of used it they did not have staff to provide the service so we had to drive to the Beach and pray for a parking spot. The mattress is a spring mattress so not the most comfortable bed. The patio in the pictures on the website is no longer there. 1/2 the patio is now in the sea. They only have the upper area by the pool and no access allowed below due to safety. Sitting to view the ocean is limited because of that. They said it happened about 2 years ago, yet no mention of this on the website. The person I talked to said they plan on extending the upper patio. (may be a few years), The view is very nice and we enjoyed sitting and watching the ocean but note this is not by a beach or beach access, it is on a Cliff as the title says. Parking is also premium. Only a few spots on the side of the building or street parking. Simply put not enough parking spots for how many rooms are available. Though you may think my Cons out weigh my Pros I think this hotel would be perfect for most couples and families.

I'm a hotel snob, I admit it. I was a little hesitant to stay somewhere that wasn't part of a national chain or didn't have a restaurant or bar on site. This little place has changed me. We rented a one bedroom apartment on the second floor and were pleasantly surprised that it was equipped with most comforts of home. Toaster, pots & pans, little coffee maker. You could see the ocean from practically every room. Each night we left the bedroom window open and were lulled to sleep by the ocean sounds. (No sleep machine needed.) In fact the ocean sounds blocked out most noise from other hotel guests. It was a little too cold to use the pool, but it looked refreshing, plenty of chairs and it looked right over the ocean. The location was perfect, just steps away from a convenience store, amazing pizza and Mexican food a block away. We didn't have a rental car and found it easy to walk to Newport Street where there are a lot of places to eat/drink.

This place has potential because it’s a beautiful location and while it’s old the room renovations make the place a little better. I strongly question the management of this hotel. First, both of the 2 days I stayed here I had to ask them to turn on the hot water. If that wasn’t bad enough they are doing construction and they started working between 6:30-7:00 AM. It just shows a lack of respect for your guests. Overall, the price is not worth it and you would be better off staying at someplace like the Hilton where you get a more professional treatment.

We stayed in a 2-bedroom room suite for 4 nights at Christmas time while visiting local family. There appeared to be only a few other rooms in use, and the hotel was quiet, except in the morning when the pile drivers started pounding before 8:00 a.m. at the base of the cliff where a massive construction project to shore up the cliffs is underway. The project also affected parking, and we had to park on the street, which was not an issue given the low occupancy. The interior is freshly painted and bright with a beachy vibe, but some of the furnishings are downright shabby - the scuffed leather recliner looked like something you'd find out on the curb with a "free" sign on it. The sheets were threadbare. The windows are dirty. A cracked shelf in the shower. A dresser drawer was missing, with just a gaping hole, cupboard and closet doors stick and are difficult to slide. There's only one wall heater, the bedrooms were cold, and I couldn't find any extra blankets. The coffee is a packet of Folgers which isn't the best quality... We had to request a housekeeping visit each day because apparently it isn't automatically included. I didn't find that the condition of the hotel, nor the amenities, justified the rather high price.
On the plus side, the location is stunning, with a front row seat to the pounding waves, beautiful sunsets, and access to the cliffside trail. The outdoor amenities - pool, patio, picnic tables are very inviting. The beds were comfortable, and there are large flat screen tv's in each bedroom and the living room. The Wi-Fi is free and fast. The pool was heated, but we never had a chance to use it. Easy walking distance to many eating and drinking establishments in OB. This would be a great location for a family vacation in the summertime, or almost any time when it isn't so foggy and chilly.

This place is absolutely amazing! Check in was extremely easy and was in my room within 5 minutes of arriving. The front desk was very friendly and informative and the place was flowing with ocean air and the aroma of flowers from the rose garden that goes throughout the property. I was blown away to find that my room came with a FULL kitchen as well as an ocean view from literally every window. To top it all off there was a heated pool and a awesome lounge area that practically sits on the water. This will definitely be my go to place when I’m in town.
