The Westin San Diego Bayview is often commended for its exemplary service and spotless premises, despite occasional lapses in housekeeping and service reported by some guests. While travelers speak highly of the hotel's stunning views and prime location near key downtown spots, the rooms receive mixed reviews due to noise, odors, and dated amenities. Additionally, concerns about value are raised, especially regarding unexpected charges and steep parking fees. Overall, the hotel's atmosphere is deemed comfortable yet could benefit from modern updates.

Our recent stay at the Westin San Diego Downtown was lovely and we will be back. Lisa was the front desk agent upon arrival and was very helpful in answering my questions and providing suggestions. Andres assisted with bring our bags to the room; he was gentle with our things and was great conversation. Marquise assisted with the bags on our last day and again, he treated our things with care and was wonderful to talk to.

The hotel is very spacious and clean, the architecture is beautiful, and even the elevators have a great view to the bay. The entry way to our room was a little snug but the bathroom and room itself were both very open and had a nice layout. The pool is on the 3rd floor but is outside so it felt like a rooftop pool, and it’s heated which is always nice with the beach breeze. The athletic equipment in the gym area is not old and is very well maintained. There are a lot of business-related areas as well so any number of people and professionals can feel at ease.

The location is fairly centralized, we could walk to any number of restaurants, or the CVS and RiteAid within 15 minutes. The bus and tram each have a stop on either side of the hotel if you need to get further, or the hotel has a handful of complimentary beach cruisers for guests to use. The beach, zoo, and many other attractions are a 15-20 minute drive. Our stay included parking validation passes which saved us $25/day with the parking structure being immediately across the street from the hotel.

We’ll definitely be back!

Alyssa and her team really went above and beyond to accommodate my friends and I in our trip to San Diego at the Westin and we’d 100% choose this hotel again for any future trips to San Diego. I booked 2 rooms for our group and she was able to honor a suite night request (I have Ambassador status with Marriott) & also ensure our 2nd room connected to the suite!! The suite was huge which was amazing so that we could spread out. She also arranged for a birthday cake to be delivered to the room for my friend’s birthday which was such a fun surprise. The hotel staff was very responsive to our requests for extra toiletries, towels, robes, etc. and took away our trash/dirty towels every evening. They even found an HDMI cord so that we could connect our computer to the tv and watch a movie.

We felt it was very clean & everyone wears masks in common spaces. They have a good amount of services even in COVID (e.g., the airport shuttle, breakfast downstairs in the lobby, etc.). The sunsets from the room were beautiful and we even enjoyed the pool! Overall it was a fantastic value and I’m very thankful to Alyssa and her staff for their warm hospitality!!

I stayed at the Westin Downtown for a cute little west coast getaway with my boyfriend. They have an amazing staff, especially Cynthia at the front desk :) The hotel is in a perfect location, we were able to comfortably walk to the Gaslamp district and Little Italy, also short Uber/Lyft rides to the airport and Mission Beach. The hotel is offering a $15 per day credit that can be used at the cafe or bar. In regards to Pandemic safety, mask policies are observed by everyone. The only downside was the weird and random sounds from the HVAC system. It woke me up out my sleep a few times.

I would definitely recommend this hotel-- pro tip: check Groupon before booking :)

My partner won a free 2-night stay through a raffle at his work party and we decided to redeem our voucher for Valentine's weekend. Tonight is only our first night, and although we did have some initial mishaps, our expectations have been exceeded in every way! I would like to highlight Miss Jacquelin from Front Desk who was the wonderful employee that assisted us with check-in. We thought we arrived too early to access our room, but Miss Jacquelin was not only able to get us a room right away, she also offered us an upgraded suite. We eagerly took the upgrade, but unfortunately encountered a couple of small issues with our first two rooms. However, Jacquelin was very quick to respond and personally escorted us to our final room, which was everything we wanted for this vacation. On top of that, a few hours later we received a call that we would be receiving a "complimentary amenity," and to our very pleasant surprise a wonderful gift of chocolate cake and champagne arrived at our room shortly after! We are so grateful to Jacquelin for going above and beyond and highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting San Diego. The hotel location and staff will make your visit more than worthwhile.

phantessmagoria - Thank you for choosing to spend your Valentine's Day with us here at the Westin San Diego. I am disappointed to learn it wasn't flawless but pleased to see Jacquelin stuck with it and ensured you were completely satisfied. The Westin Heavenly Beds are some of the best in the industry, and couple that with our heavenly bath/shower experience and you can't go wrong for a quick weekend away. We hope you will come back and stay with us again in the near future. Remain Well, Alyssa Turowski, General Manager

So I’m trying to understand the need for charging amenity fees for your platinum members. I have stayed at better hotels without an amenity fee. I used nothing, besides the gym, and was forced to pay an amenity fee. It’s not worth it. If you are a platinum member stay else where. There is no lounge, an the snack hour provided by the hotel is less than what you would get in a hotel with an executive lounge, plus the area in the lobby where the snack is served is very small and limited seating...not good. As a platinum member at any other Bonvoy property, you would get most of the items included in the amenity fee for free! So it’s a waste of $25 per day! The gym is the only amenity I used, which is standard at every other hotel, wasn’t the cleanest. The cardio machines (treadmills and bikes) were covered with nasty sweat...gross! Gym is a great size, but wasn’t the cleanest! The pool is small, nothing special at all! The only thing I can see that is beneficial for the amenity fee is the airport shuttle! Which if you broken it down, Uber would be cheaper! I’ve stayed in hotels that waived the amenity fees for platinum members and offered much more! Save your $25 per day and treat yourself to a few drinks or meal!!

Kim T - I am sorry to read you did not find all the amenities included within our destination fee to be of use to you. The Bonvoy loyalty program does not outline program benefits that are associated with destination fee. Many hotels in downtown San Diego offer something similar, including other Marriott properties. The destination fee specifically includes the following: WIFI, in room bottled water and additional upon request, bike rentals, a USS Midway ticket, airport transportation (Uber is approx $15 without tip), snack hour, on property texting service, and discounts on massage services. We appreciate your loyalty to Marriott and hope you will continue to use our properties when traveling. Kind Regards, Alyssa Turowski, General Manager

I stayed for 6 days to work virtually. I needed inspiration so I took this trip to go down to San Diego where you can count on the sun shining and warmer weather than the rest of the West coast. I stayed in a Bayview corner room with a king bed. It was nice to wake up everyday with the full view of the bay and downtown San Diego. During this stay, there was no housekeeping but they kept our toiletries and towels replenished everyday as well as trash pick up when needed. During this stay, the hotel complied with Covid safety protocol. Our stay was made very enjoyable because Theresa from front desk made sure that whatever we needed, she went out of her way to provide or accommodate. I liked that we had 4 free bottles of water everyday and also got our AAA amenities which was a great treat (wine/soda/beer and snacks). The one thing I didn’t like was the absence of room service or accommodating our need to preorder food from downstairs. A couple of times, we called front desk to place an order so we didn’t have to wait downstairs for our food. One morning front desk duty manager was not accommodating and told us that we couldn’t order from our room. Another day we insisted to order from our room. But couldn’t do it, the front desk person gave us an attitude anc said we couldn’t do it. We have to come down and order in person. In the other Marriott brand hotels we stayed at during Covid, we could place a food order from the comfort of our room and then they call us to come down to get our order. That to me is great service during Covid times and is expected from a 5 star hotel like Westin. I hope that next time, this hotel can think of ways to provide exceptional service that is expected from every Westin. The male front desk during our stay was not very friendly either. I hope they can have more staff that truly loves their job. Theresa (I hope I’m spelling her name correct) made up for everyone else in the front desk who failed us. We saw her 4 days out of our 6 days stay. Also, we had exceptional service from housekeeping. We will be back and hoping to have better staff to service us during our next stay. This hotel had an excellent location. Tip: if you have a car, parking across the street is $25 overnight. Westin is $50.

Front Desk Agent Leon Williams is top notch. He always says hello, always makes guest feel welcome, and pays attention to details. Last night it was a bit chilly and cold air was coming in from outside into the lobby bar and restaurant area, so he made a minor adjustment to the sliding glass door setting, which made a huge difference to the guests' comfort inside.
Thank you, sir.
Much appreciated.
Respectfully,

What a comfortable week long stay at the Westin San Diego! The hotel is close to the Santa Fe station, from where the Blue and Green line trams go, Also the Pacific Surfliner leaves from the same station. The Broadway pier with the USS Midway and The Kiss statue on one end and the Gaslamp district on the other, is all walking distance from the hotel.
The rooms were comfortable and there was a oncall housekeeping service reachable via message, which was prompt and useful. The bar area was very nice and the waiters were super friendly and hospitable. The truffle fries and the chocolate cake were delicious!
The elevators had a nice view of the outdoors.
The beds were super comfy and the staff was very warm and welcoming!
Will definitely be staying here when in San Diego again!

Hello nms01! The location of the hotel, only a short walk to the waterfront, wonderful shopping and dining opportunities, is certainly a great advantage! I agree that the digital key is a great option, and bypassing the front desk to go straight to your room and amazing view. Our guests love the convenience of texting our staff for anything that they need at any time. On behalf of the entire team, thank you so much for posting this wonderful descriptive 5 Star TripAdvisor review as we are so pleased you had such an enjoyable experience while staying with us! -Pete

We arrived on February 13th for a two night stay to celebrate my husband’s birthday and enjoy Valentines Day in San Diego. When I went to check us in Sarah went above and beyond to ensure that we had a wonderful experience. When I told her we were celebrating my husband’s birthday she upgraded us to a higher floor with a beautiful bay view and even sent up a celebratory slice of chocolate cake to our room! She was so accommodating and thoughtful! Thank you for making us feel valued and for upgrading our experience at the Westin!
