Every once in a while you stay at a place and feel that you are in the Twilight Zone because one’s experience is so much less positive than it was for others. In my first room, here’s what happened: no working TV [nice repair guy appears; needs an electric drill to get the unit up and running]; no radio [repair... More

Spent a week in Boston for our honeymoon, and this quaint hotel made it all the better. The room, the staff, the location were all great. We have the best memories of Boston for a lifetime. The staff went the extra length to make everything just right.

This was our first trip to Boston and what a great place it is, made all the better by our stay at the XV Beacon. We had a lovely room, great black out curtains and a super comfy bed with great bed linen. The location is excellent and is a 4 minute walk to Park St underground train stop. 10... More

We had a wonderful room with views of the Common. Huge bath and lovely complimentary salts provided. Massive comfortable bed. Loved this place, best place to unwind after walking the length and breath of this wonderful city.

Superb location, convincing style/approach, great rooms (even smaller ones) and amenities, impeccable head concierge. But... one elevator (out of the two) was down 4 days in a row (can't it be fixed quicker ??), and front desk just 'forgot' one dinner reservation which is not what you wish for at 8:30pm on a Saturday night (they've been quite good at... I've stayed at XV Beacon multiple times and the service is outstanding: free luxury car service for nearby locations, nightly turndown, daily newspaper, free shoe shines, well-stocked mini bar, the list goes on. The location is also fantastic as the hotel is walkable to much of the city including the North End, Freedom Trail, Boston Common, etc. Certainly not for... More

I realize I am in the minority writing this review but XV Beacon is an average hotel with average service. I realize most reviews find the hotel to be one of the best in the USA. I probably stay in 20-25 hotels per year so I have a good base of comparison. The hotel is located about 150 feet or... More

XXX dollars a night buy you somewhere right downtown by Boston Common; next to senate building. Old Builidng convereted, with smallish rooms but with interesting decor and fittings (our room had a sort of modernist four poster bed and a fire that lit); great art on the walls, attentive service and interesting old lifts (that were very quiet). Altogether, worth... More

The location of this hotel, adjacent to the common, could not really be better if you are here on holiday and need a base to explore the city. The staff are all excellent and could not have been more helpful with recommendations, bookings etc. There is also a hotel car to drive you to local destinations which is a nice... More

The fireplaces in the rooms were so cozy when we stayed here during winter. The hotel was very close to the things we wanted to see downtown, and they had a car you could schedule if you needed a ride downtown somewhwre. We had no complaints at all with the hotel or staff.

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.
