We just spent the weekend at this beautiful & charming hotel. The location is top notch as it overlooks the Boston gardens with access to Newbury Street and all of it's wonderful shops and restaurants. The staff is professional and attentive. The room was extremely spacious with a desk, couch, chest of drawers and comfortable bed. The Taj Bar is... More

This is a beautiful old hotel. As those people now it used to be the Ritz Carlton. It seems as though a lot has been updated but not enough. Our wallpaper had water damage and the loveseat with conspicuously missing. There was a large empty area of the room with a loveseat sized rectangle of clean carpet surrounded by dirty... More

Great location overlooking the Boston gardens & close to the T & all the great shops on Newmarket. Th rooms are spacious, beds comfy and we had no complaints about sleep quality. But... No tea or coffee making facility in room, no hair dryer & simple breakfast $80 for the two of us & honestly not great value for money... More

Dear Manada64, We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your recent stay with us. Our location and proximity to public transportation, shopping and dining make us the best address in town. Our apologizes for not having coffee facilities in the room, however upon request we can certainly accommodate. Additionally we do offer fresh brewed complimentary coffee and tea... More

The rooms are fairly spacious and the bathrooms are lovely, the fitness room is adequate but the staff are variable. The guys helping with luggage are great (there are a few stairs to climb to the lobby) but the staff in the cafe for breakfast are not so great, clumping the cups of coffee down on the table and putting... My wife and I stayed here for a short weekend stay for vacation. We stayed in an interior facing King room. In short, the hotel is a traditional, historic property with some of its own quirks. But I think given the choice between a chain Hilton or Marriott, I would choose this one every time. The hotel is classified as... More

A former Ritz hotel, Taj is a beautiful building and the location can not be beat, overlooking Boston Garden and steps away from Beacon Streets. I only stayed one night for business, but that night was great! They gave me a 12th floor with the best view to the Garden . They allowed me to check in early. The service... More

The Taj is a delightful place to stay. It's full of memories of what a grand old-fashioned hotel should be like: discreet, elegant, comfortable. It doesn't feel like a "chain" at all (reminded me very much of the Carlyle in NY). The corner room was a good size with an awesome view down Boylston street towards Fenway and the John... More

This gem is showing her age in a big way. Yes - the rooms are large and the beds are comfy! The location is wonderful! I cannot speak to views because all we saw was the air conditioning machinery...which was kind of ironic because the air in our room never worked properly. It made hideous sounds when the fan was... I stayed there on a business trip. Service was great and professional and the bar is pleasant. The Indian restaurant is slightly above average (not too special). Overall rooms were spacious and clean but very much in need for renovation. Location is great though.

Overall we quite liked this hotel particularly because of it's location. However there were a few things that let it down in our opinion. Firstly the chap that checked us in was curt bordering on rude, we checked in alongside another couple who were given an upgrade, so it was a little galling when we were not. Not that we... More

Staying in Back Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Back Bay
Wander around this quintessential neighborhood in the heart of Boston for high-end shops, restaurants, and the feeling of city bustle. Its most identifiable skyscrapers, the Prudential Center and John Hancock Tower, are highlights of the city skyline. Visit Newbury street to explore unique and trendy boutiques – as well as every other kind of store imaginable – all housed in beautiful brownstone buildings. In nice weather, restaurant patio seating is packed with Bostonians and tourists alike soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the food. Commonwealth Ave offers a beautiful stroll down residential tree-lined streets. Keep walking towards the Charles River and enjoy a beautiful view by the water. In warmer months, people run and bike on paths running along the esplanade, and sail and kayak on the Charles River. Boylston street, also full of shops, bars, and restaurants, is the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Head towards Copley Square and check out the Boston Public Library, which is particularly beautiful from the Dartmouth street entrance.
