We stayed one night in the Taj at the end of our trip to Boston, Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard. We preferred this hotel to the Fairmont, where we stayed for two nights at the start of our trip. Although the public areas are not as luxurious in the Taj, I think the attitude of the staff (on reception, concierge,...

An old, somewhat updated hotel in a magnificent location. The service level is too notch. The bar, one of the best in the Back Bay, but the facility is worn. Coming apart at the seams might be the best description. My room was great. A junior suite with a living room and a wood burning fireplace, a roomy bedroom with...

Have stayed at several Taj hotels in India...exquisite, bordering on fairy tale accommodations. Best attribute of this property is the location. Hotel itself unremarkable. Staff all around were terrific, however...pleasant, helpful and even fun/humorous. Good for walking tours to Beacon Hill, Boston Garden, Newbury Street, even Theater district. Location, location, location! Otherwise, a city hotel in the USA.

First of all this is NOT a Ritz level hotel despite having taken over the ritz hotel property. The location is perfect, best in the city but the hotel is worn. Furniture is dated. The bed linens were nothing but white pillows and a white comforter. Stains on our chair. This hotel has fireplaces and a bad ventilation system. We...

Rooms are old and tired., the view was great. the dining room tables have a glass top and left over food is under the glass and looked dirty. Hotel personnel are not informed and never check in after 6pm as that is when the B team takes over. But the next morning, the A team was just a bad. when...

Great hotel, in the center of Boston, with great staff, great rooms and other facilities. Only strange experience was at the bar. We walked in 10 minutes before closure time and the greeting was: "we are about to close, so if you want to drink anything order now". Smile with a simple "hello" and then the explanation would have done...

Excellent location on the Garden and corner of Newbury Street, walkable to Prudential Center, Copley, Quincy Market, Beacon Hill. The service sets the Taj apart. The bellman always makes it a point to make the stay special, leaving candy or this time bringing the kids duck food so they could feed the ducks in the park, teddy bears, fruit, flowers,...

Concierge I'd give 5 stars! Attentive and personable. Stayed 3 nights in a park view room which I highly recommend. It's lovely just to sit by the window watching the activity in Boston Common. Check in and check out, a smooth process. The downfall of this hotel that prevented me from giving the full five stars was the lack of...

Have stayed here since it was the Ritz Carlton back in the day. Great location where back bay meets the public garden. Remains a classic hotel. Service great. Cannot comment on food or beverage service.

Staying in Back Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Back Bay
Wander around this quintessential neighborhood in the heart of Boston for high-end shops, restaurants, and the feeling of city bustle. Its most identifiable skyscrapers, the Prudential Center and John Hancock Tower, are highlights of the city skyline. Visit Newbury street to explore unique and trendy boutiques – as well as every other kind of store imaginable – all housed in beautiful brownstone buildings. In nice weather, restaurant patio seating is packed with Bostonians and tourists alike soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the food. Commonwealth Ave offers a beautiful stroll down residential tree-lined streets. Keep walking towards the Charles River and enjoy a beautiful view by the water. In warmer months, people run and bike on paths running along the esplanade, and sail and kayak on the Charles River. Boylston street, also full of shops, bars, and restaurants, is the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Head towards Copley Square and check out the Boston Public Library, which is particularly beautiful from the Dartmouth street entrance.
