Nestled in a prime location for exploring Boston, the InterContinental Boston, an IHG Hotel, garners positive feedback for its harbor views and easy access to public transportation. Guests have called out the spacious, clean rooms and upscale amenities, including indoor pools and luxurious touches, though some suggest a need for updates. While the atmosphere is generally considered inviting, the value perception is marred by high costs and additional charges.
Service experiences vary, with commendations for staff friendliness alongside some service hiccups. Cleanliness throughout the hotel, however, consistently earns rave reviews.

I think this hotel has rooms with 2 queen beds but it seems to be harder and harder to get them at any hotel. So my daughter and I settled for a king bed. The bed itself was super comfortable! Nice soft mattress. There is no headboard - instead there are sliding glass panels to the bathroom, which means not a lot of sound dampening between the bathroom and the bedroom. This could be embarrassing depending on who your room companion is.
The bathroom comes with a large tub (if you slide the glass panels you can see the TV from the tub) and a large walk-in shower along with a double sink and countertop with plenty of room for "stuff". Included lotion, soap, shampoo and conditioner were fine. The toilet was a bit odd - quite low and had a delayed (but powerful) flush.
The TV is at an odd angle to the bed - not directly in front of it but to the side basically opposite the foot of the bed at a 90 degree angle. We could see it but it was not a great position for it, especially for the person on the left side of the bed. Room came with a desk, desk chair, and slightly uncomfortable room chair. I had to put a pillow behind my back to be comfortable in the room chair. Room was large.
Location is very good - I am local and came in on commuter rail and the T to South station which is about 2 blocks away. You can walk almost anywhere in Boston from this location and I walked to the Seaport area (over the bridge), the Boston Common and Downtown Crossing. We ate in the hotel restaurant for one lunch and it was adequate but pricey. Service was friendly and they comped us some vanilla gelato because they ran out of the dessert we had ordered. The gelato was excellent. There are quite a few restaurants in the area - for a quick breakfast, lunch or dinner at a reasonable price I recommend High Street Place - basically an upscale food court about 3 blocks away. We also ate at Tatte on High Street and Legal Seafoods in the Seaport district. There is also a Sweetgreens in the Seaport district if you want a good salad.
Lobby is outstanding - large with a lot of seating and a gas fireplace.

Intercontinental Boston delivered one of our best and most memorable hotel stays. We enjoyed 7 nights here. The customer service experience was outstanding. All departments of the hotel delivered exceptional service. Our check-in experience was professional, super friendly and informative. The perfect start! A special mention to the team who manage the daily room clean (Our room was 502). The room was cleaned to a very high standard and the team member who looked after our room was super warm and friendly. It was a pleasure seeing her everyday, working super hard to deliver the best standards for this hotel. We enjoyed some amazing breakfasts. Special thank you to Annie who served us at breakfast. A perfect host and exceptional service. We used the Club Lounge during our stay. A fantastic experience. Great space to relax. The management team at this hotel have got the perfect balance here. The food, drinks and the space were just right. Plenty of options! Krish, Francesca and Dennis were the perfect hosts. By far the best club lounge team I have ever come across. Attention to detail, warm, welcoming and always provided plenty of tips of places to visit in Boston. Thank you.
We look forward to visiting again.

Overall, this was a great choice for our family trip to Boston. Excellent location in the Financial District. We went during the weekend and it was nice and quiet, but close enough to walk to all of the popular spots. Its also right on the Wharf so steps from your hotel, you can walk out and sit right on the water and even have a cocktail at Smith and Wolensky which has a beautiful outdoor patio. The hotel itself is in good condition as are the rooms. The rooms are very well taken care of and spacious. No complains there. The only complaint we had was some of the sheets and towels were stained which of course is off-putting. No one wants to sleep on stains from previous guests even if the sheets have been clearned. I personally think hotels should "retire" stained towels and sheets. They can afford it and for us who loyal travelers with our preferred hotel brands, it goes a long way to check in to your room and sleep on fresh, white sheets and use fresh, white towels. Upon check in, we had to request that they come change our sheets and on another occasion we had to request they replace some towels since they were stained, as well. Other than that, the hotel is immaculate and pleasant to walk into after a long day exploring Boston. The evening housekeeping call with water bottles and chocolate is also a very nice touch that a lot of hotels lack post-Covid and cost-cutting. I highly recommend this hotel for your next Boston trip, and we will definitely be returning.

We have been going to this hotel for three years every time we visit our son, who goes to college in the area. At first, the service and amenities were top-notch but over time, everything has declined. The slippers disappeared, then the personal toiletries were replaced with large bottles attached to the wall, pillows are no longer down or fluffy. No pen or paper in the room. The furniture is starting to show wear, and on our last visit, the two drawers in the bathroom fell out, water leaked from the shower, and breakfast in Miel was not good (I asked for eggs scrambled with onions and the eggs came out with a slice of raw onion on the plate). For our loyalty, we were given a room on a low floor right near the elevator with a view of the roof, this despite being IHG members who have a standing request to be away from the elevator and on a higher floor (the hotel was not full and I reserved the room months ago).
But the biggest issue has been that when we checked out, the computer system was down. A manager wrote down our room number and the fact that we had just paid for our parking in the garage. He assured me we would not be charged twice and that we would receive our bill as soon as the system was back up (he thought 15 minutes). That night, hours later, I called to ask for the bill and to remind them about the parking fee. I was reassured again but still no bill appeared in my email. I called every day for about four days before I finally got a bill with the parking charge. I called to say I had been double charges and I emailed a copy of our receipt. No response, no credit. I have now called almost every day since checking out on October 15 and have gotten no response. I was transferred to a manager who is, conveniently, never able to answer and has not returned my calls or my husband’s. When I call the front desk, I am told that they will investigate and get back to me—despite the fact that I emailed them a copy of the charge. At this point, it’s not about the $65/day I should not have been charged—it’s the blatant disregard and the terrible customer service. They obviously do not care about their clientele, and there are so many hotels in Boston that it is not necessary to put up with this. I would avoid. What a shame.

My family will come up to Boston for a night just as a little getaway about once per year. We stay at the Intercontinental and it is our go-to place for a few reasons. The hotel itself is modern and well kept. It is impressive from the outside with its sleek appearance in the front and beautiful outdoor area in the back that is located right on the water. The inside staff including front desk, housekeeping, and room service have always been great to us. The valet/bellman are also superb. The rooms are basic but clean and modern with really spacious bathrooms. They have an indoor pool which is great for the kids any time of year which is perfect for winter getaways. The location is perfect as you can take a brief walk into the beautiful seaport area or Faneuil Hall. We get room service breakfast in the morning which is really good and comes up fast. Overall just a really nice hotel to spend a few nights if you’re planning a Boston trip.

This hotel is in a great location but keep in mind that it is a luxury hotel so you have a valet for parking and a bellman for your luggage (you are not allowed to use the luggage carts on your own). The front desk staff was very courteous and the rooms were great. My room was spacious and very cool - the bed was comfortable and the shower was good, even though I had to let the water run for several minutes before it got warm. I had one issue and that was with room service. I ordered 2 eggs, sausage and coffee and was charged for a full breakfast with toast, potatoes and fruit included. I contacted the front desk staff and was promised a follow up; I haven't heard from them so called the hotel and explained my problem again. Again, I was promised a follow-up and 24 hours later, still nothing. I will try again in a few days. However, the hotel is in a great location - we walked about a mile to the North End and the Old North Church. Overall, this is a great hotel.

Room was impeccable. We were told we had a water view. You could see a sliver of the water but our view was the adjacent building it was VERY misleading.
My grown daughters took a $40 dollar bottle of wine, candy bar, water bottle, power aid, and a coke out of the mini fridge to make room for medical equipment. We did not use these things i called the front desk and told them what we were doing. The items were put back in mini fridge when we checked out. At some point when we went to dinner and night staff came in they noted those items and charged us. When i got back to NC i called and explained the whole scenario again and the manager essentially yelled at me and argued. I explained my daughters feeding tube supplies had to go in the refrigerator and we had called down to let them know what we were doing. Long and short I was charged over $100 plus taxes for items we never drank or ate. I was overcharged by $200 for a water view room for a room that looked at an office building.
We always stay at The Seaport it is hands down the best hotel in Boston. They were closed for a private event. I will never ever stay at this hotel again. I think if they retrained their staff then maybe. The hotel itself is wonderful and impeccably clean perfect location.

Beautiful hotel in a great location with respect to the city center. It overlooks the riverfront and breakfast is served on the ground floor in a large glass room overlooking the river. Breakfast of the highest standard, if you can try to buy a package with breakfast included because otherwise breakfast costs $ 50 per person. We left with two children aged 9 and 12, the room was large and extremely clean. The bathroom has both shower and bathtub. The property has a small but very comfortable indoor pool. Inside the structure there is also a gym available to guests. At the pool and gym there are drinking water fountains to fill any water bottles. Top service from five star hotel. It was a cuddle that we allowed ourselves within a longer journey. We don't regret it. Location is opposite the tea park

From the moment we checked in, we felt the hospitality and welcoming attitude the staff had at the Intercontinental Boston. Zach, helped us check in and get the best room, it doesn't just stop there, if we needed anything he was always there to help. The rooms were always spotlessly cleaned and the atmosphere in the hotel is very nice and welcoming. The hotel’s location is perfectly situated. You are at the heart if the city, and not that far if a walking distance with places such as seaport. We loved walking around and the hotels location was perfect for it. If anyone is looking for a top notch experience with good deals, and a wonderful staff, there’s no other place than the Intercontinental Boston. Looking forward to visiting again.

Somehow this place is listed as an American Express Fine Hotel + Resort. We’ve booked through Amex many times before and there is a pretty standard suite of benefits you receive through booking that way, including breakfast being included for 2 people. At check in, we’re informed that breakfast is not included - ok no biggie but also not exactly a warm welcome, especially when they informed us they also did not have a room upgrade or late check out available…again, not a huge deal but also not an auspicious beginning.
The food was terrible, when you could get it. Room service is closed from 2-4pm for some reason. The club lounge is an absolute joke: you can get some cubes of cheese (no crackers though) and bad wine for a few hours in the evening, otherwise it’s pretty much bottled water and sodas. The room service food was borderline inedible.
Not sure why they even have valet at all. It’s basically just a parking garage that you have to wait to have access to. It took us over an hour to check out, bringing down all of our own luggage and waiting in a parking garage lobby to get our car with two young kids. Pretty much the opposite of luxury.
