The Boston Common Hotel isn't bad. Just very old. Needs to be updated. There are no restaurants or bar in the lobby area. The location was ok. Could walk to eat or drink. Taxi stand nearby. Was n ok value for the money. Parking is an extra $28. But right across the street.

We spend a night here traveling through Boston and needing easy access to Back Bay station and the Providence Center. From this perspective, this basic hotel was ideal: it takes 5 mins to walk from the Amtrak station and is within walking distance of everything we had time for in Boston (inc what many tourists would do there). There are... More

Everything about it was very dated. Nice and central, but not worth the price. Lady on the desk was not happy in her work. Refreshments selection was ok, but coffee was not the best. TV was really bad. Wifi worked in my room just about, but not in my sons.

This hotel has the greatest location, right in the middle of Copley Square. You can walk to so many places in Boston and the T is around the corner. Unfortunately, the hotel hasn't been updated since the last time we stayed here. The bathroom we had this time had too much mildew for me to jump in the shower. Our... More

We were in Boston as tourists. The location was good for accessing the tours, within walking distance of parks and shopping. The rooms were not new but satisfactory. The staff was helpful. There is not much signage or street presence. We weren't sure at first that we were at the correct address, since it doesn't look like a hotel from... More

Frommer's calls this property a "hidden jewel." That is a bit of an overstatement. While I wouldn't call it a jewel here are the good points: 1) location. This hotel is one block from Copley Square and 2 blocks from 2 different subway stations. 2) price. While about $250 isn't exactly cheap, it's very decently priced for that area of... More

Great location near subway lines in modern part of town. Yes, the hotel is in desperate need of renovation but then the prices would triple like other hotels nearby and I wouldn't have stayed there. Though it was old, our room was clean. We had a problem with the coffee maker and a new one was brought within 1 minute.... More

Good, if you just need a place to sleep and a bathroom. You get what you pay for. Centrally located was a plus. Close to center of the city. Must use parking garage, which is additional money. No breakfast.

Location was superb with easy access to two different lines (Orange - Back Bay & Green - Copley). Copley square, Trader's Joe, Legal Sea Food and CVS were just a stone's throw away. Receptionist was great (thank you for your kindness) and did a great job in helping me check-in earlier when she saw that I was a solo traveller,... More

Staying in Back Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Back Bay
Wander around this quintessential neighborhood in the heart of Boston for high-end shops, restaurants, and the feeling of city bustle. Its most identifiable skyscrapers, the Prudential Center and John Hancock Tower, are highlights of the city skyline. Visit Newbury street to explore unique and trendy boutiques – as well as every other kind of store imaginable – all housed in beautiful brownstone buildings. In nice weather, restaurant patio seating is packed with Bostonians and tourists alike soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the food. Commonwealth Ave offers a beautiful stroll down residential tree-lined streets. Keep walking towards the Charles River and enjoy a beautiful view by the water. In warmer months, people run and bike on paths running along the esplanade, and sail and kayak on the Charles River. Boylston street, also full of shops, bars, and restaurants, is the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Head towards Copley Square and check out the Boston Public Library, which is particularly beautiful from the Dartmouth street entrance.
