If you have stayed in this hotel before, you might remember it was charming, with a lovely staff, breakfast nook (and complimentary continental breakfast and tea in the afternoon). Well, things have changed considerably. We were expecting a different experience, but we were unprepared for what a Sonder means. You will be basically left on your own, with only a stranger on an app (because you have to download the app) to help you. There is trash in the hallways. There is no staff. You basically get a key, and an app, and that is it. Just…not worth the money. If we had understood what we were getting into, we would have kept our memories of the property as it used to be intact…and just paid for a full hotel. Meh, Yuck, Nope.
Our experience was in room #12 on the ground floor. It was clean and spacious enough for our 3 night stay. I loved being on Commonwealth Avenue with everything within walking distance. Great eateries, shopping, theater and history! My husband and I grew up in Boston and are very familiar with the area, but even if you’re not, it’s the perfect location to explore Back Bay. Given the high price of hotels in the area, this was an affordable option. No one on site, but help is always available via text. We would definitely stay again and we probably will in September.
Amazing place! They had the fireplace going when we entered! Warm, inviting and hit my love of history passion. Very walkable to everything! Had amazing dinners and yummy coffee at local places! We can’t wait to come back again! I highly recommend!!!
The property was very nice, no parking near the property was a pain in the, well you know. We were playing musical parking spots and ended up with two parking tickets. There is plenty of shopping and food near the property but no where to park. Very frustrating.
My wife and I had an excellent stay while we were in Boston in the Back Bay neighborhood. We loved the location at 248 Commonwealth Ave. The instructions for checking in were very helpful and we enjoyed our second floor room. I would recommend this place for anyone visiting Boston. A nice visit.
Stayed in November 2022 for 5 nights, loved the area, hotel was lovely and very straightforward to navigate with self check in. Room was warm, clean and cosy, bathroom was incredibly clean and provided towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. Tiny kitchen area with fridge, microwave and coffee machine was great and helped us to not spend our entire savings eating at the amazing local restaurants every day. Bit of noise from outside as to be expected in this part of town (noticeable if you're more accustomed to silence at night-time) but not a dealbreaker and resolved with earplugs, which were available downstairs. Only complaint would be the creaky floorboards from the room above (we were in 43) which was irritating but wasn't constant. Would absolutely stay again, especially for the quality achieved for the cost.…
Very good enjoyed it. Very easy to check in . I highly . Parking is difficult but everything is nearby and you will enjoy Newbury street . The room was renovated and fully equipped you could stay there for two weeks
Great stay at 284 back bay. Clean and comfortable bed, perfect location The hop on hop off stop is really local the Prudential area is right there we walked all over Boston from this location including the beautiful Esplanade on the Charles River
This B&B was ideally located to my business and to many local restaurants and shops. The room itself was very comfortable, well decorated, and quiet (despite the street below). I walked everywhere and enjoyed the beautiful Fall color along the avenue. This place warrants a return with my spouse for a pleasure visit to Boston.
While the room was small, it was very efficient, clean, nice fixtures and the bathroom was a comfortable size. The staff/chat app was very responsive. When we arrived, we needed new batteries in our remote and had them within the hour! The only drawback was that the library and patio area had no wifi access- only in the room and the room had nowhere to really take a video call (no chair/desk, etc). In a world of virtual work, this is a big need. There is a slight creaking sound when the elevator goes up & down, so if you're sensitive to slight noises- keep this in mind. Also you can hear the person above you walk around and ours above was a stomper. The location was perfect and the area is relatively quiet (albeit rush hour).
