We spent a night in the city. 284 Comm Ave is a perfect location to stay over and enjoy breakfast on Newbury St in the morning and shopping or running the Charles. Rooms are nicely appointed, clean and ours had a kitchenette with fridge/coffee maker/ microwave. Bed had a big comfy duvet. We will stay again! Thank you Sonder.

I was in Boston this past weekend and had the most wonderful time at the hotel. It is a cute, boutique hotel in the Back Bay area of Boston. It is located at a walking distance from Newbury Street, Prudential Center, Northeastern University, Berklee School of Music. The look & feel of the rooms is very modern and very clean. The staff was extremely friendly and the complimentary breakfast of baked goods, bread, cereal, fruits and Nespresso is very nice. They have a complimentary supply of non-alcoholic beverages and yogurt in their dining area and provide 2 complimentary bottles of Fiji Water at check-in and during each cleaning. They also keep complimentary baked goods (croissants, muffins, biscottis, cookies etc.) in the dining area. They have a very cosy common area with a decent stock of reading material. The only downside is lack of adequate car parking nearby. You can do paid parking (pretty reasonable pricing) from 8am to 6pm on the surrounding residential streets, find a spot on one side of the Newbury Street that allows for non-residential overnight parking or you can do overnight parking at the Prudential Center garage for $40, which is a hefty price to pay IMO. We managed to find overnight parking spots on Newbury Street. However, the lady at the front desk did not offer any such options apart from the Prudential Center overnight parking. It would be nice for the hotel to have complimentary permit parking cards for their guests.

Everything about our stay at No 284 was fabulous. First, we were unable to make our original reservation a few weeks prior due to a last minute work change. The hotel was great and offered us a future credit. When we used the credit we arrived very late- at 12 AM, and were greeted graciously. Our room was charming and we felt very safe. We noticed hotel staff wearing gloves, lots of hand sanitizer, and even individual hand sanitizer packet left for us in our room along with complimentary Fiji water. We left early in the morning and hotel staff dropped us off a complimentary continental breakfast to our room before we took off. The back patio and library area were also charming. Highly recommend, and location couldn't be better! We will be back!

I recently had to make a last-minute trip to Boston and was fortunate enough to book the last remaining room at No. 284. Ideally located, it overlooks the trees of Commonwealth Ave but is only a block from the shopping and dining options of Newbury St. The staff was a delight to work with: Aura in the front office was a wealth of knowledge, and everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was well-stocked, including a mini-kitchen, and the library on the main floor is a great place to catch up on work or enjoy breakfast/tea service. You'll find all your essentials covered and then some; indeed, the hotel distinguishes itself by its attention to detail and small touches. Truly a gem, I would book here again in a heartbeat.

I strongly advise not spending your money and staying here. I don’t even want to call this place a hotel, because since No. 284 has been taken over by Sonder, there is almost no trace of accommodation / amenities, customer service, or hospitality. It’s simply a building with old rooms (unmanaged by any staff), and you will get a much better experience staying at any nearby hotel (such as the Westin).
They have a 4 p.m. check in time, which is much later than the average hotel’s. On top of that, they do not even have a front desk or space for you to put your baggage, which is odd. My boyfriend and I arrived at noon and did not want to carry our bags through a snowstorm. They force you to store your bags at nearby luggage storage locations, which are often expensive, inconvenient and not secure.
There is no front desk, no staff, no customer service - which I think is Sounder’s biggest downfall. How are you calling yourself a hotel without looking after your customers? You do NOT feel taken care of here. After checking in, if you have any questions or need anything, you’re completely on your own. There’s no front desk. No staff to bring anything to your room. Just a measly Sonder app that is supposed to be helpful, (connecting you to some unhelpful virtual agents) yet disconnects every 5 minutes. The whole point of staying in a hotel is that there are people ensuring you have a comfortable stay. I literally could’ve stayed in a hostel and it would’ve been better than this.
The most shocking part of my stay was the “essentials closet” on the first floor, where guests could grab extra towels, toiletries, etc. There’s no one to bring it to your room, but at least it’s there, right? Wrong. There was a sign on the closet saying “Only take one item per guest. If you need additional items, look for nearby store recommendations on the Sonder app.” Seriously, Sonder, seriously?! You can’t afford to let me take two small soaps? I can’t believe they’re asking their customers to spend their own money taking a trip to Walgreens to buy basics that every hotel should offer. For almost $250 a night, this is preposterous.
You know how hotels are at least expected to give you as many towels, toiletries, cups, and basic amenities for your stay? Sonder does not. There is not even a pen in the room to write with. No breakfast, no areas to even lounge or sit and read a book. You’re basically just paying for a a bedroom and bathroom with a lock. Do the smart thing and go somewhere else.

What a great spot. In the heart of the back bay. The rooms are appointed with all that you could want small kitchenette and lovely sheets. The staff are friendly and treat you like family. I have traveled a lot through this pandemic and this is the only accommodation that routinely cleaned and changed sheets, provided a continental breakfast and even gave you cookies for tea. I felt pampered and fell in love with Boston all over again.

Great location and really nice accommodations. We actually didn’t see any other guests for our entire stay, felt very private. Loved the breakfast dropped at the door each morning. There was a rather annoying sound, like some kind of compressor, that went off at least every hour in our bathroom. That was a bit annoying in the night. The toilet paper holder was also broken off the wall in our bathroom. The bed and linens were very comfortable, although the bed didn’t have a top sheet, which we found odd. There was also only one wash cloth stocked in the bathroom each day, which was a little inconvenient, since there was two of everything else. AC was wonderful on a very hot and humid August night. Overall a great experience!

As we are moving through new mental acceptance of COVID-19, we are starting to make drive-able trips. We had a great experience with No 284! It is a lovely property in a gorgeous neighborhood. We found the check in super hospitable and our room clean stocked with paper towels, plates etc. The breakfast was lovely croissant, spinach pastry, juice, fruit and yogurt. We stayed in the Penthouse and the outdoor deck was really great to bring our meals and spend time enjoying the skyline and sunsets. The skylight was very nice! The staff could not have been kinder or more accommodating! Masks and sanitizers were readily available.

I’ve stayed at No284 before Sonders took it over and absolutely loved this place so I was very disappointed when I showed up. There was no real reception just 2 people in what looked like the supply room now which used to be the check in office. Previously the hotel was beautifully decorated especially for the holidays. No decorations when you walk in. Even tho the rooms all have small kitchenettes they is no glassware or plates, everything is paper or plastic silverware. There’s also no more breakfast, not even bottled water in the rooms. Rooms are still beautiful (I just hope they keep them up) but I won’t be staying here again.

Very clean and safe during Covid - everything is fully sanitized and there are complimentary masks, gloves and hand sanitizers everywhere... they are very accommodating and contactless breakfast was also a nice touch. This our 2nd visit and would definitely stay again...also, right next to Newbury street with great shopping and restaurants.

Yes, every room at No. 284 Back Bay has a private bathroom.
We got a taxi from directly outside the arrivals hall. They are well marshalled and we didn’t have to wait. It took about 15 minutes and cost 25 dollars (about 18 UK pounds) without tip. The hotel rang for a taxi for us when we left and it arrived within 5 minutes. The fare to the airport was roughly the same. Both taxis accepted credit cards. We used the Boston underground while we were there and although it was very good, I would recommend using a taxi when you first arrive as you don’t have to carry luggage up and down stairs and you are never sure exactly where you’re going! We did think about booking a private transfer before we went but are glad we didn’t now as in hindsight they seem very expensive for such a short journey.
Unfortunately, there is no shuttle service from this property to the convention center.
Thank you for your question. There is no included parking at this property, but we encourage all guests to use Parkopedia for up-to-date parking options near your Sonder.
