Our locations are in the trendiest area of Boston: the South End. In the South End neighborhood, you will find wonderful restaurants, theaters, cafes and artist lofts. Our short term and extended stay apartments are very clean and we make sure they offer the latest in designer layouts: hardwood floors, Wireless Dsl, Cable TV, flat screen in most apartments, washer and dryer, cookware, cotton linens.

My girlfriend and I stayed in Tremont Street (apartment 6) for a month in June 2013. The room, which is located at the back of the building, is very comfortable and very quiet. The apartment was very clean upon arrival, and we found everything we need to cook in the kitchen. The Wifi is good, as well as the air-conditioning. The location is also great, bus and T lines are a few blocks away and there are a lot of restaurants and cafés in the neighborhood. Walter and Mike have been really helpful and responsive to our requests. Price is good compared to hotels, it was definitely worth the money. We would recommend CAJ house for any short stay in Boston.

I stayed at CAJ House 2 times over the past 6 years - the first time at the Worcester Street location, and most recently for the month of Dec 2011 at the Tremont Street location. I have lived on and off in Boston proper for 15 years, and know the neighborhoods, price of rentals, and hotel costs very well. I can attest that CAJ House offers an incredible value for a furnished studio in a prime Boston neighborhood (South End).

Of the 3 rooms I stayed in, all have either hardwood floors or laminate floors that look like hardwood - my preference over carpeting for cleanliness. The mattresses were very comfortable, and sheets were of good quality.

The Tremont St location is great; just 2/5 of a mile to the Prudential in Back Bay where I was working (and location of a Green line train stop), and ½ mile to the Back Bay Orange Line/Amtrak station (on the route to NYC). It is also very close to all the restaurants in the South End (home of many of Boston’s top and trendiest restaurants). Tremont is a busy street, so I requested a room in the back and it was very quiet. Parking can be tricky in the South End (even with a resident sticker) but there are some non-resident spots between the Tremont Street location (at the corner of West Newton) and Mass Ave where you can keep your car for a few days (easiest to find such spots in the evening). The Worcester Street location is also convenient (7/10 of a mile from the Prudential), and is on a side street that is more residential.

The owner and caretaker are very helpful and responsive.

Note the kitchenettes are perfectly sufficient for heating up take-out or preparing simple stove top meals. They are not equipped for much more than that.

Me and my wife stayed at Caj House for 6 weeks while we looked for a permanent residence near Boston. Although Caj House was at the top end of our budget, it was definitely worth the money. The rooms are well furnished (and the management were quick to fulfill our requests for an extra chair and towels) and the kitchenette was well equipped to cook small meals in. The room was very clean upon arrival so we quickly felt comfortable. Location is great, it is very central with good access to the T lines, but in a quiet enough area that there wasn't any noisy streets outside. And all of the staff were very helpful during our stay. I'd definitely recommend Caj House.

My 16 yr. old daughter and I came to Boston for a 5 week "adventure". She attended Berklee College of Music each weekday, and I was free to explore the city and relax. The Tremont apartment was perfect as far as being centrally located for us. Berklee is about 10 minutes away, as is the Prudential Bldg., where I stopped for my morning paper and coffee each day. Next door to our left is a wonderful nail salon, and to the right is The Upper Crust Pizza Parlor. Th pizza place came in quite handy on many evenings. In less than five minutes, I could walk next door, order the "slice of the day", and be back in my apartment for the evening. We found Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and a local market so close, that I was able to buy fresh each day, so the apartment -sized fridge was not a problem. The restaurants in the area are amazing, and the movie theater, symphony, and historical sites are all within walking distance. Even the train is nearby. We took a cab only once, on the day we returned from Salem. We were exhausted. Otherwise, we walked everywhere. The laundry facilities were surprisingly available every time I attempted to do our laundry, which was three times per week. The building is very quiet
and peaceful. It was quite easy to keep clean because of the vacuum placed in a central location.clean, We especially appreciated the hardwood floors and huge windows which allowed the morning sun to stream into our room. Furthermore, we were able to get through the 90 plus degree weather because we had complete control of our air conditioning unit.
All the neighbors were quiet. When we did happen to see a neighbor, he/she was always friendly. The management is as close as a phone call. Once, during a really severe storm, the building lost electricity. Walter was contacted (on the weekend) and came immediately to solve the problem. My daughter and I truly enjoyed our stay at the CAJ on Tremont. We spent most of our time out of the apartment during the day, of course, but Apartment 7 soon because our "home" . And, by six each evening, I was comfortably reading in bed! I would suggest bringing an extra set of towels, some cloths for cleaning, an omelet skillet, and perhaps your favorite coffee mug. Other than that, the place is set up perfectly. We hope to return to the CAJ on Tremont again next summer. Jackie and Gabriela Carrillo

Parlor.

I stayed at Caj house for one month while in Boston on business. Price is reasonable compared to other places I found. The location of the Tremont street property was very good. Public transit was not far, and there were nearby restaurants and shopping. I admit that I am a so-called "clean freak", so I was somewhat disappointed in the cleanliness of the apartment. It did not appear that the carpet had been vacuumed prior to my stay and the bedding was not the most clean either. I also noted the walls and baseboards could have used a good scrubbing. That said, I would still recommend this property given the location, reasonable price, and fair cleanliness. The bed was not very comfortable, and in my opinion cannot compare to a hotel.

Response from cajhouse, Owner at Caj Guest House Tremont Street
Responded Oct 8, 2012
From reading your review, sounds like you enjoyed our building location but were not impressed with our cleaning and mattress hardness. I am really disappointed we did not deliver the cleanliness we want to be known for. I will make sure this does not happen again. We changed our cleaning person this summer and I am now aware I did not direct her work with sufficient clarity. I will be inspecting more apartments and I will discuss clearer goals with her. As far as the mattress softness goes, I would like you to know that thanks to your input and that of other guests, I am adding a new line item in our reservation request menu to ask if future guests prefer soft or stiffer sleeping surface. We have both mattress surfaces already available, we just never thought about how to effectively market these choices and now we will. Hope you will try us again and see our improvements.

I stayed at the 677 Tremont Street branch (apartment 5) of Caj House for April 2012. It was excellent value for money. The location is reasonably central (within reasonable walking distance of the city centre, and within a convenient walking distance of the Prudential Center and its shops/restaurants/subway - though the spoke-like arrangement of the Boston subway means that it's sometimes quicker to walk when travelling in other directions near the centre). It's a traditional brownstone apartment block. There are several decent restaurants and cafes on and near Tremont St, a good grocery store one block north, and a slightly dubious convenience store right across the street (caveat: check the sell-by dates carefully!). The local neighbourhood feels safe. The flat itself was a fairly comfortable one-bedroom apartment. Kitchen for basics (not for complex food preparation). Easy chair, two standard chairs, one small table, bedside cabinet, TV with DVD player. Good heating system; plentiful hot water in the en-suite bathroom; good wireless internet connection. Washing machine and tumble dryer in the basement (and a bank down the road to obtain the many necessary $0.25 coins). Recommended.

My friend and I rented apartment T6 for a month. We found the location to be wonderful with an abundance of quality dining options within a short stroll as well as its proximity to what we found was Boston's best nightlife scene.

Walter and Mike we extremely helpful and provided us with many answers and suggestion for what to do for someone new to Boston.

I would highly recommend an apartment in this building due to its location and the very practical features of the apartment.

I stayed here for two weeks starting June 21, 2011. I rented unit 4T. The unit was clean and well appointed, with huge curved glass windows overlooking Tremont St. Vibrant neighborhood, close to restaurants, public transit , shopping and museums. Walter and Mike were both very helpful. I would definitely consider Caj House again next time I'm in Boston.

I got my security deposit back right away which was also nice.

My wife and I planned a trip to Boston for our 5-year anniversary and the value offered by CAJ house was amazing, You pay less than half of what a hotel would cost and you get a full kitchen so you don't have to eat out for every meal.

We stayed at the house on Tremont street and were very impressed with the location. We were esentially living in one of Boston's nicer neighbourhoods (BMW, Lexus, etc parked along the street) as if we lived there. You don't get your room made up every day but that's a small price to pay to live like a local. The house has laundry on site and the CAJ management team works out of that building so you have easy access if you have any questions.

Speaking of the CAJ management, Walter and Mike were very friendly and helpful during our stay. We are from Canada so Mike and I had numerous e-mails back and forth leading up to the trip and I felt like he really cared about how everything was handled. His patience was impressive.

All I can say to cap off the review is 5-stars across the board! We won't hesitate to stay with CAJ again in the future.
