The Inn is situated in a lovely neighborhood so we were far away from any downtown hustle and bustle. But downtown Asheville is less than 2 miles away so when we wanted more activity it was close by.

Back to the Inn itself, Chris and his wife Sherri have thought of every detail to make your stay comfortable. The Inn and our room were beautifully decorated in the Victorian style but there were nods to the modern world that sadly we can't live without. Like we had plenty of USB charging space for all of our gadgets.

The towels were soft and luxurious as well as they have nice shampoos and soap for us to use. There were two kinds of mints in our room for us to enjoy as well as a fully stocked mini-fridge with waters, juice and sodas. The room has a TV in it but we didn't use it.

My wife and I were looking for a romantic B&B in Asheville and this was such a great find! The house itself is absolutely beautiful. The present and prior owners have done a wonderful job of modernizing everything but at the same time keeping the old features, and therefore its "character", intact. There is beautiful woodwork trim throughout the house and beautiful old windows. The wrap-around porch is a lovely place to sit and relax, as is the sitting room in front.

The location is great. The house is situated on a corner in a historic neighborhood called Montford. It's a fun location for walks, including a nice cemetery you can stroll to and visit the graves of Thomas Wolfe and O'Henry if so-inclined. We enjoyed walking into the central part of Asheville from the house but you should know it's a bit over a mile so some people would not want to walk downtown. If you choose to drive or use a ride service it's very quick; just 5 minutes or so drive to a zillion fantastic restaurants, shops, etc.

I can't say enough good things about the owners, Chris and Sherry. They were genuinely interested in making our stay great. From our first contact on the phone, to email followups, through our stay they were unfailingly nice, helpful, and fun.

Sherry is an amazing cook. The breakfasts were incredibly delicious and just the right size. The coffee was great (I think it's their own blend). And maybe best of all, there are delicious, homemade cookies out at all times.

They have two electric vehicle chargers (J1772 sockets, so they fit Tesla and most other EVs) in their parking lot, which was very convenient and appreciated.

We were in the Griffin room but all of the rooms look great. I wouldn't hesitate to stay on the third floor - there are three rooms on that floor. While two of those upstairs rooms don't have bathrooms in the room, each has a dedicated bathroom a few feet away so nobody has to share a bathroom.

HIGHLY recommended; we will certainly return for a future special occasion!

The 1899 Wright Inn/Carriage House is in a beautiful old, historic, neighborhood lined with huge Victorian homes and trees. It's very quiet but only a couple of minutes from downtown Asheville. The house itself has 10 guest rooms. Ours was the Wright guest-room on the first floor just off the dining area. The rooms are just as you would expect, very well appointed for the period and looking like they were remodeled in the early 20th century. We spent 4 nights there. Our room also came with a small dining area that my wife and I were kind of disappointed about because we did not get to sit with other guests for breakfast, and that's part of the fun of going to a B&B. But, in hindsight, we went during Covid and that seclusion probably helped sequester us from any Covid being spread at the main dining table, if there were any. I'm sure if it were non-Covid conditions you would have a choice of where to sit.

Now, understand that this house IS 121 years old. So it's not the most comfortable room you can rent (except the bed. Awesome!). The water pressure is low and it takes a couple of minutes to dial it in between scalding hot and freezing cold. We were there when the weather was changing from warm to cold and we were getting cool air through our vents when it was in the 40's - 50's out. Apparently they have one thermostat to control 4 floors and you know how thats going to work out. Chris, the owner, took care of it by placing magnetic mats over the vents. Problem solved. And speaking of the owners, they were as you would expect a B&B owner. Very personable and available. We were visiting the area and thinking of moving there so we got to pick their brains and get their opinions about the area. Jenna & Maya were serving breakfast and taking care of the cleaning of the rooms. Excellent service by both.

I believe Chris and his wife just purchased the house a little over a year ago. You can tell they love it and put their heart and soul into it. He understands the house's shortcomings and is working on rectifying them.

Oh, one last thing...We went around Halloween and they had pumpkins on the front porch as most people do. There was one black bear that really appreciated it. He showed up at 7am to chow down on them! He took off when the owner tried to get him to pay for his breakfast.

Thanks so much for the very thorough description of your experience staying at our Inn. Many people are booking our rooms that have private entrance and dining specifically for that and we completely understand how it would be disappointing to feel somewhat isolated from some of the social aspects of staying at a bed and breakfast. We are optimistic that this arrangement is only temporary and we all will be able to resume normal operations soon.

What an amazing experience! The Inn is owned and managed by Sherry and Chris. They couldn't have been accommodating. Sherry is the cook/Chef and her breakfasts were different every day but deserve a 10+ rating. I can't say enough about how delicious they all were. Our room was on the first floor (because I cannot do steps) and had it's own dining room and a private bath. The room had a gas fireplace which was easy to use and kept us warm during the cold nights. The closet provided us with enough hangers and also bath robes (which was an extra I really appreciated and enjoyed. We also had our own outside entrance to the suite (the Wright suite). The bathroom was equipped with facial makeup cloths, shampoo, conditioner and bath lotion, plus a makeup mirror. In addition, their recommendations for local restaurants and things to do/see in Ashville were right on the mark. Although my sister and I have stayed in other 5 star hotels through the years, nothing has come close to The Wright Inn. Most of the rooms have king-size beds. The service from the help was exceptional. We never had to ask for clean towels ...the staff (wearing masks and social distancing)came every day to provide clean linens and serve our breakfast.

My best friend and I took a weekend getaway to Asheville and are so happy we chose the 1899 Wright Inn for our stay! We stayed in the Orr Room and it was perfect! Right away it was apparent that the home is well cared for by the staff/owners. From the breakfast in the morning and the fresh baked goodies in the dining room to the mini fridges in the common areas and toiletries in the bathroom, every little detail added up to perfection. The staff and owners were very friendly and always available. During this covid pandemic, we felt safe at the house as everything was clean and disinfected they seemed to care for our well being.
Whatever you do, don't skip the breakfast!! Everyday was something just as wonderful as the day before.

The inn itself is beautiful with cozy decor and historical elements both inside and outside. There is adequate parking and period-specific furnishings. It is located on a corner, making it easily accessible and close to town.

Unfortunately, we were sorely disappointed in guest hospitality. The innkeepers seem very "green" and not seasoned as some of the other B&Bs in the area. They don't seem to fully grasp the concept of the guest experience.

We booked through a third party, as we were having trouble finding a room on a very popular weekend. A couple of days before arrival around 9pm, we received an email with the subject line that our reservation was cancelled. When I emailed back why, they said they had not received our deposit and that they would cancel us at 11am the next morning if we did not resolve it. Imagine the panic!

The next morning I had to call during a busy work day the travel company and the inn. It turned out that the innkeeper advertises through these travel companies but did not follow the steps on how to complete reservations. The innkeeper called me back stating he was very frustrated and pressured me to book directly, complaining that the travel company took most of the money and that he shouldn't have to do the extra step to gather the deposit through them. These are issues that should be worked out behind the scenes between the inn and the travel services, since they are choosing to advertise through them. It should not be passed on to the guests to deal with the logistics of that, when we did everything we were supposed to do and they did not follow the process behind the scenes. This left a bad taste for us.

When we left the inn, we discovered another problem with the charges, as the travel company advertised no fees and they charged us $30. We had an email from the travel company stating there were no fees, and when we disputed it, the inn denied our claim, telling us that they told the travel company they had a fee for flexible arrangements. Again, this had nothing to do with anything we did, but they finally agreed to refund the charges after they denied initially and we showed them the email where it clearly stated there were no fees.

Why put your guests through all this logistical nightmare when none of this is their fault? Threatening to cancel a reservation with very little notice because they did not follow the process of the company they advertise through was in poor taste. I understand logistical issues but the way they acted like it was our fault was very frustrating.

Based on the tremendous hassle with booking with them and the variety and quality of much better service at other B&Bs in the area, I would not stay here again.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding booking your reservation for our inn. Your reservation got sticky when you booked through one online travel agency, cancelled then rebooked through another. When we saw the second reservation come through without a deposit, we were concerned and reached out to you. We understand that our template email startled you and we apologize for that. Your review is very detailed; however, the portrayal is inaccurate on the course of events which may be misleading to readers of your review. I am left with no realistic opportunity to provide clarification. Hotels.com (owned by Expedia.com), booking.com and expedia.com are booking engines. They are not advertising companies. We don’t have a choice but to partner with them because of their misrepresentation of availability. See https://www.courthousenews.com/false-advertising-claims-against-expedia-headed-to-trial/ for the details. 2020, as with many, was a difficult year financially and being closed for 5 months, we couldn’t take a chance of waiting to see if you were going to keep the reservation. We strive to provide topnotch service and amenities to our guests, and we are greatly disappointed that you did not enjoy your Valentine’s weekend at our inn.

If I had to design an ideal Bed & Breakfast it would look similar to the 1899 Wright Inn. The home, a Queen Anne style Victorian building, is well maintained and loaded with period details both inside and outside. It is located in the historic Montford section of Asheville - a short walk from the downtown area. Our room was clean and comfortable, the owners were friendly and the breakfasts were absolutely amazing. We especially enjoyed savoring one of Sheri's homemade cookies while sitting on the veranda and enjoying a quiet evening. It doesn't get much better than that !

The 1899 Inn is a beautiful Victorian house, with quite a few rooms. The owners make a really great breakfast and we’re very clean and sensitive to COVID-19 precautions. The location is in a stunning neighborhood, with great Fall leaves and rose bushes framing the view from every window. We really enjoyed our stay!

We have been returning guests at The Wright Inn since the early 1990's although it has been several years since circumstances had brought was back to the Inn until the past weekend. We have stayed in several of the rooms but The Powell is among our favorites. The Inn never disappoints and meeting the new owners was quite a treat. They clearly love the home and are invested in continuing the high quality of service, comfort and amenities for which the Inn is known. Meeting new folks and making everyone feel at home are at the heart of this family run operation. The neighborhood is growing with several new restaurants, within walking distance, which makes the location of the Inn an added plus!

This B&B is located in the beautiful historic Montford District, a quiet, safe neighborhood just a mile from downtown Asheville. There are excellent restaurants within the neighborhood, just a short walk down beautiful tree-lined streets. The room and bathroom were immaculate, and the bed was really comfortable. I wasn't able to get a rental car at a reasonable price, so I asked Sheri about transportation options from the airport to the B&B. Uber was an option, but Sheri's son was willing to pick me up, and take me back, for a very reasonable fee. Not only did he drive me to the B&B, but he insisted on lugging the heavy suitcase up the staircase to the room! The breakfast was similar to what you would expect in a five star restaurant...fresh and hot baked muffins and scones, tasty fruit, frittatas, baked eggs, crispy bacon or sausage, and excellent brewed coffee...served to us on the veranda with fresh flowers on the table each morning. At 5 PM, there is a lovely happy hour with cheese, nuts and meat boards and a choice of top quality red or white wine. Beautiful property, super nice owners and staff, and a charming neighborhood...So happy I found this gem for my trip to Asheville!
