The hotel is located on the edge of the downtown area, but it's still walking distance to all the attractions. Check in was quick, and the rooms are in good condition. We were upgraded to a double room suite, which was nice. The air conditioning wasn't working that well, but it wasn't too hot. There is secure parking at the back of the hotel, which is shared with the public.

We stayed here for a night before heading out to the Smoky Mountains. The property’s downtown location is good as many of Asheville’s best restaurants are nearby. The lobby has been updated. However, the common area and bar areas are small and with the relator event being held that night, both areas were very crowded. Our room was badly in need of an upgrade. The bathroom was small and had an old bathtub and curtains. The sink space was limited. Our room was on the smaller side and we supposedly received a room upgrade. Our closet door had a chunk missing from the door and rather than replacing the door, they just painted over the missing area. The room was just tired. Although our room was down the hall from the elevator, I could hear the noise from the elevator all night long. For what we paid for the room for the night ($450) this hotel was a terrible value and not what we expect when we book a room in a Renaissance property. My recommendation to Marriott Corporation is to either embark on a complete remodel or sell the property - it is not up to Renaissance standards. My recommendation to Marriott loyalists is stay at the AC Marriott down the street.

I can't go back in time and look at the rate I agreed to thru expedia, But I was charged $450 for a sat night and two-night total of $830. My wife and I have been staying at this hotel for years and have never paid more than 250 for a night. Potentially an oversight on my behalf, but this is way too steep for these accommodations. Not sure what changed in their pricing, but be aware of the prices listed on tripadvisor fluctuate massively on the night you select.

Dear Guest Thank you so much for staying with us again. We appreciate your loyalty. Unfortunately pur rates do change depending on the demand and rates in the city. You stayed over a very busy period where we were actually priced below the other downtown hotels. I realize that you may have paid more than during prior visits and apologize that this was inconvenient. We certainly appreciate you and hope to have the opportunity to serve you again. Great hospitality at this downtown hotel. The location is fabulous, with lots of restaurants nearby. We were greeted with champagne. I have to thank the manager Sharon who helped us with rooms when our reservation was made for the wrong date. She was extremely helpful! The gym is nice, as is the pool. Would definitely stay here again😊

We stayed three nights here. Since we were exhausted I didn't notice how unclean the room was until the next day. Crumbs on the floor by the window, bathroom had hair in the shower, the cleaning lady came while we were there but didn't clean anything even though she said she was. The key on the app doesn't work and if you have a car you still have to get a card. The only nice thing about this hotel was the location and the view. Would not recommend

We are Gold Bonvoy Elite members and our stay was a mixed bag. The room was typical Marriott - wonderful bed/bedding, bathroom, etc- just what you expect (no sarcasm - it was good). Now cue the sarcasm - our room (802) had a fantastic view of the parking lot! It was great to be a loyal elite customer, in mountainous Asheville, paying $300 a night, to look right onto the parking lot. LOL. Also, all night long, our room made lots of original noises, like water pipes singing and moaning randomly and loudly. They really need to check that out. Getting a less than stellar room did not surprise us after the very bad experience we had at the front desk with the staff member who assigned the room. He seemed to take an immediate dislike to us. His name was Maraldo and he spoke to us very curtly - not very friendly at all. Perhaps he was just having a bad day? He got our number and said he would text us when our room was ready. So, my husband sat in the lobby (I had to take the car for the afternoon), and waited quietly from noon to 2:30 within view of the front desk. (It was freezing cold outside so he could not walk around town to waste time). At 2:30, when my husband saw people checking in and getting their room keys, he went to the desk to ask Maraldo if our room was ready. Without even looking at the system, he replied, “not yet”. For the next half hour my husband watched even more people check in and getting room assignments/keys. So he waited until Maraldo left the desk and then approached a female staff member (Jean) who did look in the system and said it was absolutely ready and was flustered when asked how long it had been ready. It seemed clear it had been ready for some time. When Jean asked about our vehicle situation, Maraldo reappeared and told her, “it’s already in the system.” He was just curt to everyone for no reason we can ascertain. Folks like Jean, who have the attitude we come to expect from Marriott - kind, professional and accommodating - should be rewarded for making Marriott a great place to stay. We never asked for special accommodations. We were polite and friendly and certainly understood we were a little early and that our room may not be immediately ready. But, we also expect courtesy and fair treatment. Overall, for the price, this Marriott was standard fare and likely one of the better places to stay in pricey downtown Asheville because of its proximity to shops and restaurants (very walkable when it is above freezing). Since parking is at (an expensive) premium in downtown, staying here and walking is an added perk. BTW - the text saying our room was ready came at 4:50pm.

Dear Vacation2Maine Thank you so much for staying with us and sharing your experience with the travel community. Please accept my most humble apologies for the delay upon arrival. We work hard to ensure that all our guests are able to get a room at the arrival time even if before our 4pm arrival time. Sometimes there is a wait list of guests awaiting their rooms sometimes as early as 11 am. Once the room is ready, we would call the guest and let them know. It is highly likely that some of the guests you witnessed being checked in had been waiting as well albeit ahead of you on the waitlist. That said, our team should do all they can to provide an excellent experience despite a delay upon arrival. If your room was ready, you should absolutely have been called and I am very sorry for this. I will note that the team member you identified is typically a superstar and receives many notes of thanks from guests, so I am really sorry that you had a different experience. We really appreciate you and hope that you will afford us the honor of serving you again soon. Best Neville Erasmus General Manager

We spent three nights at the Renaissance and it was outstanding. The staff was exceptionally courteous and accommodating, the rooms were perfect, the food was plentiful and excellent and the new General Manager went out of his way to welcome everyone. Overall, one of our best hotel experiences ever. Can't wait to go back.

I had reservations Feb 23-26. When the GIANT snowstorm hit the midwest all flights were canceled. I had the AAA agent call the hotel to cancel my reservation. The hotel agreed to cancel with no charge - then charged me for the first night. AAA tried to contact them again and got nowhere. I have submitted a dispute with my credit card. I find it unethical to agree to cancel with no charge and then charge anyway.

Worst experience ever. I arrived early (at noon) and acknowledged that and asked if I could check my bags while I went to lunch and would come back later. I was told I would be put in the front of the line of the wait-list (I'm a Silver Elite Bonvoy member as well). I came back at 4 to check back in, and a different person was at the desk and she asked me "Did you get a text your room was ready?" I replied no. She then tells me my room wasn't ready yet. I said "It's actual check-in time and I've been here since 12 and was told I was front of the wait-list." (Meanwhile everyone else in front of me was being given their room keys) They then tried to give me a room that was less that what I paid for. I paid for a high floor with mountain view. I had to wait an additional 45 minutes and was then given a high floor room with a view of a parking lot, buildings and the only "mountain" view was if I strained all the way to the right and up against the glass to see it.

Dear jenniferaB2698QJ Thank you so much for staying with us recently. I sincerely apologize for your delay upon arrival. Our check in time is indeed 4pm so your room should always be ready at this time. Our goal is obviously to ensure that none of our guests have to wait so I am very sorry this issue inconvenienced you. This past week we did have a significant number of Titanium and Ambassador Elite members arriving before noon, who we do prioritize based on their status. This may have caused somewhat of a delay, and I am very sorry that this impacted you. Providing the very best experience is always our goal. Please accept my most humble apologies for the delay upon arrival. Best Neville Erasmus General Manager
