We chose to stay at the Black Walnut based upon a recommendation of a friend. It was an incredible stay and our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer! Alicia and Daniel are fantastic hosts who personally interact with the guests in a way that makes you feel as though you’ve known them all your life. The rooms are all beautifully appointed and possess the charm expected of a 125-year-old home. Each room is unique, and each provides a comfortable, quiet, and restful respite from the day’s activities. Breakfast is served in courses with each morning providing a delicious blend of food that seemed to get better each day (from a starting point of excellent!). The location is well suited for evening strolls in an historic neighborhood and is also within a very short walk of a great restaurant, Nine-Mile. If you are looking for a superb place to stay in Asheville, this is it! Important note for anyone doing research on Trip Advisor for this location - the 21 poor/terrible reviews are ALL prior to the current owner who took over in 2019. If you chose to stay at the Black Walnut Inn Alicia and Daniel WILL NOT disappoint you!

The mansion is situated in the historic Montford district The mansion itself has a rich history dating back to its architect who is one of the main architects of the Biltmore Mansion. However we did not learn of this history until we took a tour. It would have been nice if our host would have explained this when we arrived. The grounds are lovely. The Koi pond is beautiful as well as the pond on the side of the mansion. A word of advice , if you are in a large vehicle, parking is a bit of a challenge; do not enter the driveway in the front instead use the driveway on the side street We stayed in the carriage house, in the magnolia suite. There were a few housekeeping issues when we first got to our suite but our host was quick to remedy the situation. We were here for several days and each morning enjoyed a delicious breakfast. Take note that on the website they mention hors d’oeuvres in the afternoon but that is not some thing that is happening at the present time.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the azalea room at the Black Walnut. We spent three nights there last week and thought the breakfasts were amazing and service was impeccable. The location was important to us and we couldn’t have been happier. We look forward to our next visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Black Walnut Inn over July 4. Great location in Montford-we walked to several places, including the scenic Riverside Cemetery. The staff were informative, engaging and so hospitable. It was a great start to our NC vacation. Will definitely visit the Black Walnut again!
