Built in 1899 by Richard Sharp-Smith, the inn has been beautifully maintained to enhance the historic character, yet provides modern comforts without sacrificing the eloquent details of its original design. Located in the Montford Historic District of Asheville, close to all the city has to offer, we also feature 11 working fireplaces for romantic winter getaways. We serve an exceptional three course breakfast in our elegant dining room, an afternoon social hour with wine and hors d'oeuvres, 24 hour beverage stations, and a divine dessert awaiting as you wind down for the evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Black Walnut Inn. This historical home has been beautifully maintained with original architectural details. The gathering spaces are spacious and welcoming. Owner Alicia makes her guests feel welcome with an evening happy hour, spectacular home cooked breakfast and gourmet coffee available 24/7. The house is located in heart of Asheville where great restaurants, art galleries, hiking and day spas are close by. We look forward to a return visit.

Daniel and Alisha were great hosts. the location is quiet, close to everything, including some very nice restaurants. Our room was very clean and comfortable, the front porch was very casual and open and we had very nice conversations with other guests. the breakfast was delicious and a great way to begin the day.

Our first ever Bed & Breakfast experience was absolutely perfect thanks to Alicia and Naomi! The inn was beautiful, accommodating and charming all rolled in to one. The food and baked treats were amazing! The location is fabulous as well. Walking distance to great shopping and eating. The weather turned super chilly fast and we enjoyed the challenging puzzle for some cozy indoor fun. Great stay!

We arrived very late after a long travel day and were able to go straight to our room to relax. In the morning, a delicious homemade breakfast was served. Alicia and Naomi were both gracious, helpful and fun to talk with. They gave us excellent dining/outing recommendations. Our room was both comfortable and inviting. During our stay, the weather alternated from rain to very chilly. The rooms are heated and have a fireplace electrical insert that added ambience as well as warmth. The whole inn is tastefully decorated with many period pieces and lovely details. If you're looking to be transported to another era but with all the modern amenities (WiFi etc) you will love the inn as much as we did. Alicia was a wonderful host, the place was gorgeous and the location was perfect. The provided amenities were lovely. Due to our early flight home, we could not have breakfast on our last day, and Alicia packed us up with a breakfast that included her homemade raspberry strudel. It was delicious!

We love The Black Walnut! This was our second visit and Alicia and Dan go above and beyond when it comes to service and comfort! The Inn is beautifully decorated and so cozy and inviting. Feels very much like going back in time and almost a European feel! The Breakfasts are to die for and she accommodates your dietary needs. I have zero complaints and hope to visit again! Five stars from me!

If you are hesitating to book don’t, it’s a gem. We had a vey late flight and arrived about midnight. The airport is about 20 minutes away. The Inn was easy to locate and parking was plentiful. We had emailed prior to our visit to let them know we would arrive late and they sent very good instructions. Since our room was on the first floor, we were able to get wonderful brewed coffee upon rising. We ventured out for breakfast and met Daniel. He was very pleasant and let us know what was on the menu for breakfast. The breakfast consisted of warm banana muffin with homemade apple butter, pineapple/strawberries with a little sprinkle of sweet chili and smoked salmon-homemade guacamole on toast. It was fantastic. The room we stayed in was clean, the sheets were like heaven - so incredibly soft. We had breakfast with another couple and they told us that downtown Asheville was only a 5 minute car ride and parking was easy. We headed out for the day as we had reservations for Biltmore Christmas later that night. We got back very late but there were homemade treats on the entry table for us. Bottled water and soft drinks were in the cooler which we were thankful for after a long day. Overall we had a great experience. We will stay again the next time we are in Asheville.…

Black Walnut Inn was beautifully maintained with a rich history. Alicia and Daniel were wonderful hosts. The location is perfect for walking into the downtown village or to start any area excursion. Our room was on the second floor facing the back of the house (Azalea Room) and was quiet, clean, and comfortable.

Alicia and Daniel make this a thoroughly enjoyable visit! The home is beautiful and full of any amenity a traveler would need. Breakfast is so tasty you won’t leave the table hungry! The Black Walnut Bed and Breakfast is in an ideal location. Quite street and walkable to downtown and good restaurants. The host was helpful with suggestions on hikes in the area, flexible with our time for breakfast, and has created an overall welcoming environment. Will stay here again when we are back in Asheville.
