FANTASTIC midweek getaway! Alicia was extremely welcoming and accommodating. The Black Walnut Inn is stunning and full of history. Our room was gorgeous and extremely comfortable. The little added touches in the room were also very nice - water and toiletries (which smelled great).

We enjoyed Happy Hour each evening with fresh baked goodies. The living room and the front porch were perfect places to relax before heading out to dinner.

Coffee was available via a fantastic machine that ground the coffee beans freshly and allowed you to pick from espresso to macchiato to americano. Pottery coffee mugs with the Inn’s image on it were out to use.

Breakfasts were not only scrumptious, but they were also beautifully plated.

We enjoyed our stay so much. We weren’t ready to have to say goodbye.

Alicia, thank you for an amazing stay. We will definitely be back!

We went for a weekend stay but unfortunately our time was cut short. I would still say that this inn has several things going for it. We enjoyed the baked goodies provided. We choose the Holly room for our stay. I would describe the room as cozy, comfortable, and intimate. The bed was as goldilock said, "just right" but even better for me was the shower with the adjustable handheld nozzle. There is a terrace just outside this room which provided an excellent place for morning tea. Breakfast was filling and satisfying but the server could've been better dressed. The innkeeper was pleasant and accommodating. A nice inn for a weekend away but I do have one bit of caution for any travelers. If you have problems with climbing steps and stairs you will have about 10 to 12 steps to enter the house from the outside and then stairs up the Holly room. The concrete steps were a bit of a challenge for my wife.

Thanks very much for taking the time to submit a review and for your comments. I'm sorry to hear about the problems with the steps - I wish you would have said something during your visit. For guests concerned about the eight steps to the front porch, we do allow them to have access through the back door. Again, we're sorry that you had some inconvenience with the steps and are glad that overall, you enjoyed your visit. Thanks again for taking the time to submit your review and for providing us some additional thoughts for our consideration as we always are trying to improve!

Sitting on the stone front porch in wicker chairs sipping iced tea, my husband enjoying robust coffee, we anxiously awaited our first of Alicia's gourmet breakfasts. She did not disappoint with homemade poppyseed bread, fresh peaches with a dollop of whipped cream topped with a pinch of cinnamon, a vegetable omelette dressed with cheese and a side of honey ham. We were able to enjoy two more of her delectable breakfasts as we were in Asheville for the weekend for a wedding. She also baked cookies daily that looked like they belonged in a bakery and were presented on a tray in the foyer. Daniel, her co-host, was absolutely delightful and made sure we were enjoying our breakfast. He even brought me iced tea though it wasn't a usual offering. Our room was charming and our bed was comfortable but the mattress was a little softer than we are used to. The location is great, five minutes from town. (Uber was $7) Skip the two restaurants on the street and head into town for lunches and dinners. We did not get to spend much time getting to know Alicia but we did love her wonderful breakfasts...........especially the banana muffins......could have eaten a whole basket of them. We would HIGHLY recommend this charming B&B.

If you are hesitating to book don’t, it’s a gem. We had a vey late flight and arrived about midnight. The airport is about 20 minutes away. The Inn was easy to locate and parking was plentiful. We had emailed prior to our visit to let them know we would arrive late and they sent very good instructions. Since our room was on the first floor, we were able to get wonderful brewed coffee upon rising. We ventured out for breakfast and met Daniel. He was very pleasant and let us know what was on the menu for breakfast. The breakfast consisted of warm banana muffin with homemade apple butter, pineapple/strawberries with a little sprinkle of sweet chili and smoked salmon-homemade guacamole on toast. It was fantastic. The room we stayed in was clean, the sheets were like heaven - so incredibly soft.
We had breakfast with another couple and they told us that downtown Asheville was only a 5 minute car ride and parking was easy. We headed out for the day as we had reservations for Biltmore Christmas later that night. We got back very late but there were homemade treats on the entry table for us. Bottled water and soft drinks were in the cooler which we were thankful for after a long day. Overall we had a great experience. We will stay again the next time we are in Asheville.

This beautiful inn was built by Richard Sharp-Smith in 1899, who helped build the Biltmore Estate; so you are immediately immersed in Asheville history upon turning into the driveway.

The inn has kept the historical architectural details and finishes, along with elegant interior decor and lighting. The exterior has an inviting front porch with plenty of seating overlooking expansive and lush grounds.

I stayed in the Sunshine room which is located on the first floor in the back of the home. The room was beautifully appointed with luxurious linens, lots of pillows, beautiful window seat, lovely antique bed with comfortable mattress; the bathroom was just as well appointed and sparkling clean.

You are kindly asked to wear a mask in the interior public spaces and there is hand sanitizer in the foyer.

There was a lovely happy hour from 5-6 with wine and appetizers. The breakfast is served outside on the front porch or inside in the stunningly beautiful dining room. I enjoyed a delicious 3 course breakfast loving prepared by the owner.

The inn is located in the heart of Montford with several great restaurants within walking distance. There is plenty of parking in the rear of the home, there’s several little koi ponds with waterfalls and seating areas tucked in the backyard and side yard. There’s a separate carriage house in the back between the parking area and the main house that has several rooms that can accommodate dogs too.

The overall experience is like stepping back in time to an elegant inn, with very comfortable accommodations, luscious grounds, wonderful food and very warm and friendly hosts. A wonderful stay!

We arrived very late after a long travel day and were able to go straight to our room to relax. In the morning, a delicious homemade breakfast was served. Alicia and Naomi were both gracious, helpful and fun to talk with. They gave us excellent dining/outing recommendations. Our room was both comfortable and inviting. During our stay, the weather alternated from rain to very chilly. The rooms are heated and have a fireplace electrical insert that added ambience as well as warmth. The whole inn is tastefully decorated with many period pieces and lovely details. If you're looking to be transported to another era but with all the modern amenities (WiFi etc) you will love the inn as much as we did. Final note: the cookies and baked goods available throughout the day are fantastic. We will definitely stay here again. Thank you!

We stayed in the Magnolia Room, which we chose because it was "dog friendly" and we were travelling with our Labradoodle, Charlie. It is rare to find a B&B that accepts dogs, but the two guest suites in the carriage house of Black Walnut welcomes them, right down to there being dog dishes and a towel just for the dog.
But it would have been all for naught had the humans not been comfortable also. Our room had a little kitchenette off to one side and a seating area in front of the fireplace on the other. In the middle was a very comfortable king bed--with reading lights on both sides, thank you! The linens were good quality as were the (people) towels. the bathroom was spacious with a good shower.
A real plus was that our room opened onto a little porch which is where we spend a lot of the time while we were "at home." So comfortable. We really hated to leave.

Alicia was the perfect hostess during our 2-night stay - nothing was too much to ask. The rooms are well appointed and cozy, the common areas are welcoming and the special touches are great. Happy hour commences promptly at 5pm, coffee and soft drinks are available any time as as snacks, but the piece de resistance at Black Walnut is the outstanding homemade breakfast in the morning. The food is delicious and abundant. You will not need lunch later that day!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Black Walnut Inn. This historical home has been beautifully maintained with original architectural details. The gathering spaces are spacious and welcoming. Owner Alicia makes her guests feel welcome with an evening happy hour, spectacular home cooked breakfast and gourmet coffee available 24/7. The house is located in heart of Asheville where great restaurants, art galleries, hiking and day spas are close by. We look forward to a return visit.

Alicia could teach a Master’s Class. She does all the little things right. She adds all the extra little touches to make an incredible experience. The location is phenomenal nestled in a cute pristine neighborhood. You get a code in the room which you can scan highlighting key things to do and restaurants. Happy hour is provided from 5-6 which you can enjoy on a porch. Breakfast is creative and healthy although if you go on long tours you will need lunch. There was homemade cookies, and some assorted candies. The rooms were clean and large…I even had a nook where I could read. Parking was good and spacious which is essential after a long trip. It was quiet and peaceful. It was very orderly and left little wiggle room for anything g extra. They had a fridge in the lobby with water and soda and you get to start your day with good coffee. Spacious inside too and well lit. Good place to stay a few days to unwind. Like I said this will be the near the top of any B & B you stay in. Alicia could teach a class on how to run a B & B. I would get a signed copy!
