Enjoy a stay at a 1950s throwback. Recently renovated, this 1954 tourist court motel offers vintage charm, large open parks and sunny porches. All units have kitchens. Picnic tables, grills and a firepit for a campfire are available. We love Island Acres! 2024 will be the tenth year that we will enjoy Pam and Tim’s friendly hospitality. The accommodations are cozy and thoughtful. We enjoy revisiting all that the Gunnison Valley has to offer from family friendly restaurants and businesses to the world class scenery and outdoor activities but we always smile at the end of a long day because we come back from these adventures to sweet Island Acres!

This week my wife, 5 year old and I spent a few nights at Island Acres. The service was excellent. We had a travel trailer that needed to be stashed while we visited the area, we locked our keys in the room and needed help with a broken trailer light. They made everything easy.
The location is awesome for fishing access. It's a really short walk to the put in/take out where there happens to be great dry fly fishing.
We're looking forward to going back.

The title above tells you why we have been here for the third year in a row. First, it is very reasonably priced for a place with comfortable beds and a kitchenette. The staff is very accommodating. The mattress was wonderful during our three night stay. You have to recognize that it is 60 years old and is not one of the high priced places. They have always met our needs. You have to like real log walls, and small showers and a little wear and tear, like a ding or two in the sink. It is so convenient to town and the water park. They have a little park that has room for a bonfire at night. Don't expect the most modern accommodations but a wonderful night's sleep.

I chose this place because of the good reviews; I think the gushing is uncalled for. The room was cute, almost kitschy. The service was very friendly.
Now for the buts. Service was friendly but she was unable to provide workable wifi, even though she mentioned that they had an extra repeater. Despite describing how she had it, she did not provide it to us, suggesting rather that I could sit by the office.
When I had to use the internet to take care of some urgent business matters, I ended up walking the few hundred feet to the office and there the service was fine. The wifi worked, but so did the mosquitoes. They were ubiquitous.
The room was okay but the housekeeping was apparently nonexistent.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences at Island Acres. I am pleased to hear that you found our service friendly. Since your party made only the one comment and decline the offer to move to a different unit, I didn’t realize how important this was to you. I apologize. I would have let you know that I did attempt to get the repeater to work. However, we upgraded the system since last year. I was unable to get it to work with the new Nighthawks. We do also offer seating inside the office. Island Acres is almost the size of two city blocks. Getting an excellent wifi signal to every spot is impossible. Some of the issues are out of our control. In most units, a laptop can have no problems while it seems that some tablets cannot receive through external walls. Countywide internet access is poor and not what it is in major cities. We spend the equivalent of two hours on each check-out before the next guest arrives. Island Acres offers daily housekeeping services. Every day, the trash is removed, towels are replaced if on the floor, amenities are restocked, beds were straightened, floors are washed and the carpet vacuumed. The outside porch is swept and outdoor tables are wiped. On the third day of a stay, the beds are remade and all used towels replaced. The unit was clean and ready to go upon your arrival. It was on the daily ‘to-do’ list every day during your stay. One of the days during your stay we were shorthanded. I was part of the team who provided service that day. However, if you feel we need to add something to our daily routine—or something that was missed—please let me know.

We loved the "cabin cozy" feel of the room. Our room had plenty of space, a cute kitchen, comfortable king bed, and plenty of windows to open and let in the mountain fresh air. Across the drive was a pretty treed park for guests with picnic tables and a campfire. We really appreciated the quiet evenings with no traffic noise. The owners were VERY friendly and helpful.

If you like open space around your motel with a full kitchen and a great rustic feel this is the place. My family has been coming to Gunnison every year for over 15 yeas and this is the only place we stay. We have a boat that is easy to park next to the unit, you can grab a grill and use the outside yards to build a fire or BBQ. It's like being at a cabin near the Gunnison River with more to do than you'll have time for. The owner Pam is wonderful and this is truly a comfortable and relaxing place to hang out while planning your next activity. A big plus is that dogs are welcome and most units are large so you have space for everyone.

Read the reviews and really expected to love this place. Our beds were very comfortable, but the room was not very clean. There was no microwave and no hangers. People were allowed to grill right by the rooms so the smoke came in the windows. The walls are very thin so we could hear every conversation and movement next door. Went to sit under the shade trees and most of the benches and tables were broken and in need of repair. Maybe a few years ago it was a nice place, but things are run down now.

Dear Guest, We have 17 units with kitchens, fourteen with full kitchens. It is true that in our three smallest units, which we advertise as kitchenettes, do have apartment-sized four burner stoves with ovens but do not have microwaves as there is limited counter space. We have made changes to our website to make that more clear. We apologize that previous quests removed the hangers from your unit. We always keep a back stock of any such items in the front office and would of happily provided you with as many as you needed. We have tried to encourage people to grill in the park instead of in front of their units. However, people find it more convenient to be close to their kitchens and own dining areas. People also enjoy the ‘front porch’ experience and engaging in conversations their neighbors. If others are close, especially if the windows are open, they will overhear these conversations. It sounds like you would have had a better experience had you had a different unit. Our website does provide a property map which shows the placement of the buildings on our 3.5 acres. Our outdoor space is a feature that our guests find very enjoyable. We have 19 outdoor dining sets, approximately six picnic tables including one large group table, two wooden swings and hammocks, and three park benches by one of the fire pits. Our maintenance team regularly inspects and either repairs or replace any damage items. In the last several years, we have replaced many items including all of the screen doors, mattresses, carpeting, bedding, linens, furnishings and curtains. We added many small features that our guests have requested to maximize the functionality of the units and to increase their comfort. We have also replaced many of the appliances and added microwaves to the larger kitchens. All of kitchens and kitchenettes had been entirely restocked with new dishes, pots and pans, wine glasses, etc. We appreciate your feedback. As we are a small, family run business; our guests’ experience and comfort is our priority.

While the rooms are quite dated and in need of a major investment to upgrade the kitchen, bathroom, linoleum floors and fixtures, what makes this place so pleasant are the staff. They are knowledgeable, involved in cleaning and upkeep, and friendly. That being said, it is a 1950’s throwback which has its charm. It was definitely clean and safe. Kitchenette had stove, micro, frig, coffee pot and toaster. They are pet friendly and it is a great place as a base to go see the sights and hike. Enjoyed walking through the town and shopping. Highly recommend eating at The Twisted Fork and Ol’ Miner Steakhouse.

My family vacations in Colorado every June & love to stay in rooms with kitchenette for an extra homey feel. Island Acres was clean & had a great homey feel. The owner, Pam, was friendly & knowledgable about the area. We will definitely stay again!

Island Retreat is a wonderful place to decompress. From the moment we checked in we could feel the stress of the city melting away. The cabin was not fancy, but it was super clean and comfortable. The location of this property is nice, close to the river and town. If i had a complaint, it would be the internet connection. I highly recommend Island Retreat.

Thank you. I am pleased that you found Island Acres relaxing. Yes, we are not fancy, but we strive to be friendly and fun! I also wish more that could be done to improve the wifi, as it is a challenge for many reasons. Access is certainly not what people can get in a metropolitan area. Our countywide internet problem is supposed to be improved by next year. That may help. For the benefit of others reading this: some units have better wifi than others. We continue to upgrade equipment and try various carriers. The ability to receive a good signal is also dependent on the guest’s devices. Laptops seem to perform better than tablets. Lots of vehicles in the parking lot and lots of people on the network does limit the signal and slows things down. Island Acres has 17 units spread out on a property that is almost the size of two city blocks. Getting an excellent wifi signal to every spot is impossible. We do offer a seating area right outside the office (directly in front of our new state-of-the-art, massive Nighthawk router) and two chairs inside to allow the user the best signal. Thank you for your recommendations! Referrals and repeat guests are an important part of Island Acres' business. Come back and see us again!

Yes, all our units are pet friendly. Our property has large parks and quiet county roads for walks. The pet fees are $15 for one and $20 for two. There is no deposit fee required as we Sheldon have problems with the pets on the property.
