My recent solo stay was lovely. This is a quiet oasis directly across the road from access to the Gunnison River. Tranquil, shady, and peaceful, the owner is kind and available to answer any questions. It is very clean, the beds and pillows are comfy, and the bath towels are thick, soft, and absorbent. Although there is no A/C, my room stayed cool (you're in the mountains!) and a box fan is provided if needed. A little patio area with a table and two chairs is in front of each unit - the perfect place for coffee, listening to the birds, and watching the deer. This is not a modern hotel, so if you might prefer a super fancy, high-end luxury resort with a pool and luxe amenities, keep looking. But if you would enjoy a clean, quiet, peaceful, scenic, family-friendly "Mom and Pop" motel that is a delightful throwback to simpler times, this is your place. Dogs welcome. A swim in the river, fly-fishing, canoeing, or rafting is right across the road, and there are also quiet and shady hiking trails along the river. It is beautiful! I've already reserved a unit for next summer and am bringing my husband, teenage son, and our dog - Island Acres may become our new family tradition! Side-note: this lovely little motel is near the Gunnison Airport, so every now and then the small planes fly close by. It only happens a couple of times a day, and not at night, but just be aware that, although it IS mostly peaceful, the sounds of humans can still be heard on occasion.…
Our stay was wonderful as always. Cabin #10 was Great!! Trees were changing to golden color. Deer were active . Every morning we enjoyed watching them from our window while we had our breakfast. Very quiet at night.. Even though they are off of Hwy50 and close to airport . Room was very clean. Pam & Tim, are taking extra cleaning precautions during your stay and bed was comfortable. Thank you, for another great stay. See you next summer.
It was a great place to stay in Gunnison. It is close to town but has that country feel with a large front yard where deer come up and graze in the evening. The owners treated us like family Our cute cabin was great and very clean and comfortable. There was a separate bedroom and living room area which both had a large TV. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook in. We will definitely stay there again whenever we get back out in that area.
We've stayed here a couple of times and like the yards which provide a nice place to walk the dog. The owner is great. The unit we stayed in (#2) had a kitchen table with chairs for eating and everything we need to fix breakfast. My husband could sit outside on the chairs provided on the walkway to have his smoke and left the room smoke free. Yes, a little retro, but we like that!
I Love this place to stay at. Takes me back to my childhood day's. I Love Retro décor. And Pam and her service staff are great!! I love cabin #10 . First time in this cabin . I've stayed in other cabin's but I Love this one the best.. If you want something a little something different and from the past. Please stay here..
While the rooms are quite dated and in need of a major investment to upgrade the kitchen, bathroom, linoleum floors and fixtures, what makes this place so pleasant are the staff. They are knowledgeable, involved in cleaning and upkeep, and friendly. That being said, it is a 1950’s throwback which has its charm. It was definitely clean and safe. Kitchenette had stove, micro, frig, coffee pot and toaster. They are pet friendly and it is a great place as a base to go see the sights and hike. Enjoyed walking through the town and shopping. Highly recommend eating at The Twisted Fork and Ol’ Miner Steakhouse.
My family vacations in Colorado every June & love to stay in rooms with kitchenette for an extra homey feel. Island Acres was clean & had a great homey feel. The owner, Pam, was friendly & knowledgable about the area. We will definitely stay again!
Just spent four days here and will definitely return! WiFi worked fine for me, and their cable TV has good channels. Having a kitchenette saved us tons of money on our trip, and it was clean and well equipped. The beds were very comfortable and the bedding seemed new and was beautiful--quilts and down comforters and good pillows. Our room had two queens and was airy and spacious with both a table and a little breakfast bar. The vibe of this place is '50s cabin/resort, which I loved. The property is shady, cool, and quiet. You can borrow books and games from the office, and you have another table and chairs outside your door. The bathroom was small-ish but clean and very adequate, and we had our own hot water heater. This is a pet-friendly motel, and while our dogs slept on the floor, we did bring an extra flat sheet to cover the bed in case our dogs jumped up on them; I recommend pet owners do that as a courtesy. There's also a laundry facility on site, which was handy. The staff was friendly. Loved this place!…
Upon learning our room had a kitchenette, we wished we had made our reservations before we had ordered our meal, rather than while we were waiting! Pam was very accommodating, and had our room and key waiting for use, though our arrival was after the office closed for the evening. We spoke at length of the history of Island Acres and Gunnison the following morning. Gunnison has changed significantly since I lived there 40 years ago. Island Acres Motel has been there longer, keeping the old west charm alive in a clean and well kept fashion. The room itself, was very much like the one room cabin my husband and I rented in Almont all those many years ago! The kitchenette contained all the necessary equipment, with a request to clean up behind yourselves. The bathroom was spacious with plenty of room for belongings. The grounds were well kept and park-like. Located just a few minutes west of town, it is quiet and peaceful. Definitely our choice for an extended stay in the area!…
Island Retreat is a wonderful place to decompress. From the moment we checked in we could feel the stress of the city melting away. The cabin was not fancy, but it was super clean and comfortable. The location of this property is nice, close to the river and town. If i had a complaint, it would be the internet connection. I highly recommend Island Retreat.
