Reading the reviews before our trip to Nome for the Iditarod finish had me expecting a nightmarish experience. I kept telling myself "at least we don't have roaches in Alaska" because the way some of the reviews read you expect dead vermin and bugs crawling all over. What I've come to realize, though, from my recent stay at the Polaris...

The coffee was free in the morning and the bathrooms down the hall were fairly clean. That said, the place is gross. We didn't have too high of expectations given the price, but they'd mis-placed our reservation requiring me to dig through my copies adding to a long check-in. Only thing in room was a bed, old dresser, and tube...

This hotel, should be one of your last choices in town, far behind Aura Inn, Nugget and dredge 7 inn. The quality of service is poor, but staff are not rude either. The room you receive has a simple and cheap arrangement including a TV , fridge and a relatively slow internet wifi. Be ready for an awful first impression....

Nome does not offer a lot of choices but the polaris is in a great spot to see the town. Rooms are small but clean. They have a great restaurant that has the best burger in town. bar is livley and staff very nice. Rooms can be a bit noisy late at night. It is right off front street so minutes...

So I have been coming to Nome for a couple of years for business. The multitude of offences and rudeness I have dealt with in this short amount of time is just ridiculous. Keep in mind that I have spent over 20k at this establishment and today it will stop. Kwan you are rude and out of line. You must...

At one point I had intended staying here. I walked into reception and the staff were disinterested and verging on rude. It smelled odd and the reception area / foyer made it look like a correctional facility more than a hotel. Best avoided!!

The Polaris Hotel is probably the biggest crap hole I've ever stayed in and this includes vacant buildings I had to sleep in while I was stationed in Iraq. If a fire marshal was to do a real walk-through of this place, I'm pretty sure he would pass out before he even got to the area where my room was....

The first rule of travel is "smile and be flexible." Yes, this is an old, beat up place. Yes, there are sometimes colorful characters staying in the room next to you. But it's warm, it's dry, and it's about 20 feet from the race finish line. And the staff is great and really do want to please. The onsite bar...

My husband and I stayed here for the Iditarod 2012. We were very excited just to have a room, It was tiny, clean and warm. The bar below is a little noisy but that is all part of the experience. Staff was very friendly but some guest were a little strange. Had a domestic dispute in the room across from...

I stayed here back in May of 2008... As three of the four other reviewers so far have said, this er..."hotel" is a terrible disappointment. It would not even qualify as a motel in the Lower 48 (much less Anchorage or Fairbanks). It is owned by an Asian family (or cooperative thereof), and is a combined "hotel", liquor store and...
