This recently renovated property already shows signs of poor maintenance. Flower beds are overrun with thistles. The fancy fixture at the sink does not offer running water; the hot water oozes, and cold water dribbles. There are non-working light fixtures, broken and dented lamp shades, and unshaded lights. One curtain pull was standing in a corner. Flimsy, wiggly, 2-bit toilet seat. The deadbolt on the door would not seat, and the door would drift to full open if left ajar (so you don't have to worry about remembering your key when stepping out briefly). Courteous staff and very luxurious bedding.

To best sum up this motel, it appears someone had high hopes to breathe new life into this place, but ran out of money.
Furniture/fixtures stacked all over, flowerbeds are filled with weeds. Decent appearing carpet is covered with dead millers and flies. Newer looking lamps are stained beyond help with fly spots. Fancy faucets installed incorrectly and no cold water available.
However, the bedding/mattress was clean and comfortable.

The area was very quiet when we arrived, and that didn't change, even though it was the holiday weekend. We had booked a smoking room, and the room smelled so awful we had to get the air freshener out of the car to make it bearable. The motel room was very faded, and the sink was cracked and worn. The room was clean but the windows, walls and aircon had all seen much better days. The coffee had no stirrer. Mr Patel on the counter was very friendly and directed us to a nice scenic route home, which we enjoyed. We had a decent meal in Boss Hoggs but I wouldn't stay there again.

We checked in around 9:30 and knew it would not be good when the first thing we saw in the room was a fly swatter. After killing 34 flies in the first hour, I went to the front desk and was told, “yes, we have a fly problem” and could not guarantee any other room would be better.

Room was dirty. Lamp bases had not been dusted for a long time. Carpets poorly maintained. Lots of smashed flies on walls and ceiling.

My husband booked into this hotel. The bed sheets were brown and discoloured with holes in them, the room had a bad smell and the air-conditioning was very noisy. Manager was uncontactable to speak to. He left and found another hotel. Do not stay at this place, its a health hazard!!!

front counter staff was very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Indian Restaurant very good, as well. I stayed one night during the week (July 2023) so there were some utility workers staying there too, which can be a little noisy, but they did not stay up late. Rooms were clean except for a lot of flies in the area and get in the room easily. Price and accommodation were good and would stay again; don't think the pool was open though.

Strike one: I booked a king room on the Red lion website where it was advertised I would receive a free bbq sandwich from the onsite Dickie's BBQ; however, upon arrival, the Dickie's BBQ had previously been permanently closed.

Strike Two: The stay started with standing around for 15 min in the check in area without anyone ever showing face. Rather than waiting I ran to Safeway and came back. When I got back, there was someone working the check in area with one guest at the counter and two more waiting, one of which got frustrated with the wait and walked out.

The employee was very pleasant and attentive to the individual guest she was helping; however, worked slowly and had no multitasking ability. The guest in front of me was a walk in with no reservation and was given a king room. After waiting for the employee to complete the walk UN's check-in, I approached the counter to check in to my king room I booked on the Red lion website. The employee informed me that I wouldn't be receiving a king room because my room wasn't clean because two housekeepers quit earlier that day...guess I wasn't supposed to hear her give the guest right in front of me my king room.

Strike Three: The room was ok at best. The hotel/motel (majority of rooms are motel style) has been updated a few years ago so it's not terrible and would probably be why it's a 3 star hotel. There were a few stains on the carpet which were expected. If you plan on using the tub, don't. And if you plan on showering, bring flip flops. The shower/tub was extremely stained and the finish is flaking off. The front door doesn't seal so there is a draft and you can hear all cars in the parking lot and on the street. To make matters worse, it's close to the train tracks. The hotels solution is to provide guests with a pair of earplugs in the room. Finally, the window curtains were broken so they would not close all the way.

Extra info: The wifi apparently was out because of "the wind they had yesterday"; however, was then told a previous guest changed the password. Of the two passwords, neither worked. To me it seems like they don't actually offer it and were piggybacking off another's wifi (maybe the closed Dickie's Bbq, which would explain why it no longer works). The smoke dector was found in a drawer below the microwave with the battery taken out. Finally, I didn't intend on using the pool; however, it doesn't look like it's had water in it for quite some time.

Response from Jacqueline R, General Manager at La Junta Inn
Responded Oct 22, 2018
Hello Mr. Gudorf, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review to let us know where we can improve. We are very sorry about the experience you had with us. Unfortunately the Dickeys BBQ Pit did unexpectedly close on us. It is a separate business, and had we known that it was going to close, we would have notified you. It was not something we anticipated but we have since removed all Dickeys advertisements off of our website and property. We are very sorry that you were unable to redeem your free sandwich and we do apologize that you were not notified prior to your check in. We do have a guest service agent at our front desk 24 hours a day. If you say there was no one at the desk upon your arrival, we are sincerely sorry. We are a small property and our front desk agent does run items like ice to guests as needed. I will talk with the person that checked you in to make sure they are not leaving the front desk for extended periods of time. As there should be someone at the front desk to service you at all times. As far as your tub, we do apologize for the appearance. Some of our tubs are old and stained, but we can assure you that our rooms are thoroughly cleaned and inspected each day. We will work towards getting the few stained tubs that we have, replaced. We were not aware of any issue you may have had with your door, but we will look into the room you stayed in, and make any needed adjustments. Unfortunately, all of the hotels in this town are located across the highway from a train track. Our property happens to be facing away from the train tracks, but we do provide all of our guests with earplugs as a kind gesture for those who would like to use them. We are very sorry if that may have caused you any disturbance. We do provide Free WiFi to all of our guests and we apologize if you were unable to connect. We do have routers in each building to ensure all of our guests are able to reach our WiFi signal. I would recommend that you do call the front desk if you ever need any assistance connecting to your WiFi, or with anything. We are always more than happy to help and resolve any issues that you may have while you are here! Our pool is closed down for the season, as it does need some renovation work. We are hoping to have it open next year. I am sincerely sorry that you did not enjoy your stay here. Sometimes we do make little mistakes like not being at the front desk for your check in, that can add to your stay being unpleasant. We work hard to ensure all of our guests enjoy the time that they do spend here and we are very sorry that it was not the case for you. I hope if you are ever in La Junta again, that you decide to give us another chance. Our staff would love another opportunity to make it up to you! Please give us a call directly if you would like to take us up on that offer. Again, we do apologize about your experience. Thank you again for taking the time to leave us a review and let us know what we can improve on. Have a great day!

We made reservations at this hotel because it was an inexpensive place to sleep after a very long leg of our family's cross-country trip--me, my husband, and our 10 and 8-year old kids. Upon arrival around 12:15 a.m., we noticed that the hotel was located in a run-down looking section of town and there weren't many cars in the parking lot. The night clerk was very nice and directed us to our room (room 205), and on the surface it looked small but serviceable.

No matter what type of hotel we are staying in, I always wipe down surfaces with Clorox wipes and thoroughly check sheets and mattresses for bugs as soon as we arrive. When I started wiping the sink, dirt came off. When I went into the bathroom, there were also stains on the toilet seat that wiped off. There were dirty footprints on the bathroom floor, and the tiny bathroom window was standing wide open with the screen falling out. Meanwhile, three people went into the room above us and we could hear the floor squeak with their every footstep in addition to their loud voices and music--remember that it's about 1:00 a.m. at this point. We should have left right then, but we were totally exhausted from our day of travel and hoped that the beds would at least be clean. Wrong! The sheets on one of the beds had a crusty spot that looked like it could have easily been washed out (if they'd been washed), and the mattresses were both old and ratty--one of the box springs even had a gaping gash in its side. The final straw was finding--in addition to a lot of hairs and dirt--what looked like very much a shed bedbug exoskeleton in one of the mattresses (I'd done a lot of bedbug research prior to our trip!). With that, we immediately fled the ABVI to try to find better lodging. Unfortunately, a nicer hotel in town had no vacancies and we were too tired to keep trying, so at about 2 a.m. we pulled into the parking lot, tilted back our seats, and got three hours of uncomfortable sleep in our minivan. At sunrise we decided to go back to ABVI to turn in our key. When I called the night clerk and explained what had happened a few hours before she simply said "sorry ma'am, if you'd told me last night we would have moved you to one of our suites." First off, if the suites were better, then why hadn't they put us there in the first place? Second, why would we have wanted to stay anywhere on the property after the experience we'd had? Upon leaving, I got the manager's name and have tried to call her six different times since we got back home. Each time the clerk on duty says the manager "should be here soon" or "just stepped out," and even though I leave my name and callback number each time, she has never bothered to contact me.

Even though it was an inexpensive hotel, I am still frustrated that we had to spend $68 and end up spending the night sleeping in our van.

If you're going through La Junta, I recommend paying more and staying at one of the nicer hotels on the other side of town. Of the 16 different hotels we stayed in during our cross-country vacation, this was by far the worst. If this review saves even one person from having the kind of night we did, then it was worth my time!!

This place is an absolute dive! We never saw housekeeping. They were blamed, however, for having "picked up" my iPad when I advised the night auditor that the iPad had been stolen from the room. As it turns out, the Night Auditor was the one that lifted the iPad and he had stowed the iPad under the front counter.

Now let's talk about the room. Water out of the sink came out in a trickle-at best. Maintenance was never able to fix it, and it was not due to the water valves being turned down. The room at, one point, had been broken into as evidenced by the cracked door, and the damaged door jamb. The gap under the door was large enough for a mouse to crawl through. The pool was empty - hasn't been filled in almost 2 years. The only way to get ice is at the front desk, and they do not stock coffee for the coffee pot in the room.

We made reservations on May 10th and provided our credit card to hold the room. Instead, they charged the account. We didn't have a choice of other hotels in town because they were all full for the Memorial Day weekend. When we arrived we explained the accounting error and that we told them that the card should not have been charged. We also advised them that the other two parties in our group would be paying for their own room. Today is May 28th, and we are still out over $500 for the 3 rooms because also collected for the other 2 rooms from the others in our party. This was our second, and LAST stay at this Roach Motel! UGGHHHHH!

Dear Robert, Please accept our sincerest apologies that your recent holiday weekend with us was not what you expected. We feel a strong sense of duty to help our valued guests with their concerns during their time with us, and we regret that we could not fix the issues you raised while you were here. Our team is often commended for their outstanding service, and the incident you described is unusual and not reflective of the standard we uphold.
