What a beautiful place -very very clean and well maintained but still wild and natural. We were RIGHT on the beach, site 102- and there was a constant sustained wind of 15-20mph. We didn't even make a fire the last two nights. But our tent was staked very well and it was fun sleeping with that wind howling and blowing....

A group of us camped here for 3 days in early october. This was my first time at Assateague. There were some hiccups when we first arrived. A bad storm came through the night before and we caught the tail end of it so the first day was really rough with very very rainy windy weather. Imagine setting up a...

$30 to camp on the ocean amid wild horses! It was magical! We watched the full moon rise out of the ocean. Wild horses are literally everywhere (Site #20 oceanside). The beach is beautiful and clean, just watch for horseshoe crab shells! We brought our dog. The horses weren't bothered by her and she paid no attention to them until...

Visited the campground the second weekend in September. Unusually hot and humid and the mosquitoes and gnats were EVERYWHERE. Couldn't sit outside in the campground without being eaten. We stayed in Ocean Loop 2, site 34 and the view of the ocean was nice and the beach was nice (with breeze you could sit there bug free). The sites are...

We camped over Mother's Day & it was unseasonably cold. It had rained for weeks prior & thankfully only misted a bit when we first got there and then stopped. We were lucky to camp on a site that was mostly grass (my husband is weird & hates sand. I know, I know), though it had a small pond on...

We have stayed on the island. We have stayed within a bike ride of the island. We have stayed at short car trip from the island. The common denominator- The Island! The Ponies are everywhere, the water is great, the sand is soft, it is a great time for one, two, or a family. It is has all kinds of...

My family and I have gone beach camping on Assateague Island every summer for the past 7 years, and every year, we bring more friends with us. The National campsites are much better and cleaner than the State Campsites. If you come prepared for the strong sun and horseflies with ample shade and bug repellent, you will have a great...

Camping here is super rustic. Cold water showers and port o potties. Campsites are far from the parking and you have to tow your gear through the sand. Furthermore, there is every type of biting insect imaginable, including flies that bite through your clothes! If you're prepared for all this, you will have a great time. If you don't want...

My son and his family went down Wednesday and put up their tent, got all set up. The complaints on here are right on. They were in the walk-in oceanside area. The mosquitoes and horseflies put everyone in misery. They had two bottles of maximum strength DEET, didn't make a difference. They weathered a storm that night, and some people...

This was my fourth camping trip, and longest (6 days). There's no shade so bring your own, and plenty of SPF and bug spray. Can't stress bug spray enough, though dry windy weather keeps them at bay. So much beauty and wildlife to appreciate, just make sure your gear is in order. It can be very windy and thunderstorms are...
