My husband and I stayed at Base Camp for the first time the beginning of October and are already planning a return trip next spring. It was a totally unique and positive experience. Although we stayed in Moab before we never ventured this far into the outback. You definitely need a 4x4 to reach Base Camp. The lodge itself is...

This place is not any other place you have been. Even if you have wandered the banks of Colorado river, driven on miles of 'road' in a 4 wheeler using a map that looks to be scratched by a devious chicken. Even if you have sat under a night sky brimming with stars with no trace of others for miles...

That's a pretty funny review, and, all true. Thank you. Appreciate you coming all the way out here and I'm glad you enjoyed your time. Takes some heart but heart creates the best people on the planet. The have your kids ask lots of questions, well that part was just mean, but I liked all the rest. I'm thinking I...

We stayed three nights with our two teenagers and had a fantastic, memorable time. If you want to be pampered and lounge at a resort, DO NOT GO TO BASE CAMP! But, if you want to unplug, watch desert critters, sit out under a star-filled sky, get away from the crowds, play with 4-wheelers, hike, and explore, GO TO BASE...

Carol, thank you. For ten years I've been asking people not to comment on Trip Advisor because A. More and more people keep coming each year and I don't want a job. B. I don't advertise on Trip Advisor. C. They won't delete the bad rating from the guy 13 years ago that ran camel tours and a bed and...

I am a mountain biker, I went to Moab to ride my mountain bike. On a whim I decided to stay at Base Camp - what a great choice! Tom helped me find new ways to access trails to add new adventures to trails I had ridden before. But I also: kayaked on the Colorado River, played disc golf (Tom...

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at Base Camp in August 2015. It was an amazing and unforgettable experience that I'm still telling my friends about. Base Camp is located about 45 minutes from downtown Moab. It's best to have a car with 4-wheel drive, a Jeep, or a truck to navigate through the sometimes difficult road to get...

....for fear more people will "discover" this hidden gem.... My husband and I spent 2 nights at Base Camp recently and had a wonderful experience. This place is truly special—from the location/scenery to the owner, Tom—it was an unforgettable trip. Base Camp is beyond “off the beaten path”, over an hour from Moab down Kane Creek Rd and over Hurrah...

Why do I fear leaving a review that properly describes this Shangra La? Because it could become "too discovered" and change. This is your own private Utah. Far better than the parks. Beautiful, wild, comfortable, affordable, and with a host who goes above and beyond at every turn. We spend five nights, and five amazing days at Basecamp with husband...

My husband and I recently had the pleasure of spending three nights at basecamp with Tom. He was the most generous host you could want but this is not a B&B experience, so you should set your expectations. You make your own food, and if you are lucky like we were you meet and eat with others who are staying...

After weeks of research, I decided on the Basecamp as the destination for our group's trip. In some ways, our expectations were more than met, and in other ways, they weren't. The main message here is that Tom is a wonderful and generous person who runs a fantastic off- the - grid lodge in the canyonlands. The lodges website did...

Thank you for the nice comments. I sold the two seater ATVs last year and bought four seater side by sides so families can all go in the same vehicle. When I did that I changed the web site and eliminated any mention of ATVs and changed it to side by sides. I'm guessing the site was read prior to...

We thought we would drive down from Salt Lake to santa Fe and stop for a couple of nights in Moab. I reserved a room here thinking it would be different and somewhat outside of town. I went with my two sons and a guest. Little did I know it was quite a bit outside of town in the middle...
